Annoyingly we are by the sea but there is no sunshine! Will probably go to the beach anyway. My auntie and uncle live in Cleethorpes, Frouby!

Last day of holiday. Moderation starts again tomorrow. If we get back in time we have been invited to a 3rd birthday party and will probably be offered fizz but will be driving.

Frouby · 25/08/2019 10:21

I like cleethorpes better than skegness. Skegness is a bit rough for me, and we always see people we know there. I love Filey and Scarborough though, but they are just a bit far north to go for a daytrip.

Discussing what to do. Would have planned something for us to do if I had known dh wasn't going out. He said friday he was off out with his mates this afternoon if that was ok with me. Said it's absolutely fine, will play ponies all afternoon.

Now he's decided he doesn't want to go out so wants to do something all together. And I can't be arsed to make a point on a bank holiday sunday when the sun is shining and stick to what I said I was doing. Plus ds will love an afternoon out with us both. So taking one for the team.

Just need to find something to do now though. Fml.

Good on you Frouby! Hope you come up with something fun. DH and I also taking one for the team and are at an activity place. Just spent £40 on credits so the DC better have infinitely more fun than they would for free at the beach. Dd1 is on a go ape type thing. Dd2 is on some kind of pedalo

NC4Now · 25/08/2019 12:39

I’m not doing too bad this weekend. Four beers on Friday, two ciders yesterday - one in the afternoon and one with my tea.
I just feel so unhealthy at the moment that every bad thing I put in my body feels like it’s adding to it.
Time for a lifestyle change, methinks.
I’ve only just woken up. DS and I went on the Coronation Street tour yesterday, then out for tea. It was good fun, but we were both asleep on the sofa by 8.30pm!
I went to bed but couldn’t sleep.
Not sure what we’ll do today. It’s lovely and sunny, so I’d like to get them outside, but it’s not as easy as when they were small.

MadameForest · 25/08/2019 14:01

NC4 that is serious moderating, well done! Try and start some resolutions in September when school starts. That's my aim. I have no problem keeping sport going (because I enjoy it) but have more of a problem stopping wine (because I enjoy it). If I lived on my own it would be easy but it's too nice having a drink with OH in the evening. I don't really like drinking alone. I hope you manage to get your DS out. It is easier when they are young, you are right!
Longest I hope the sun comes out. It is too hot here, sleeping was problematic last night.

Have been working all weekend but still managed a bottle of red last night, but it was a tough day so we deserved a drink. As long as I just drink red I feel fine the next day. Last week of the holidays here, DD is in Portugal with friends, DS still around. DD off to university early September so she's left home. They grow up so fast.

longestlurkerever · 25/08/2019 14:11

Aw university Mme. What will she study? Will she be far away?

Well done NC4. I will try and join you in a healthier September. I have my bike now so hoping to get a bit more exercise.

Frouby · 25/08/2019 15:53

Am also up for a healthier September.

Am aiming to walk more, do some kayaking which I will have to do with ds in a Saturday morning because the evening sessions finish, ride BabyPony, work LittlePony when ds at school, walk dog more (shes very lazy 😂😂), prep allotment for next year and some indoor swimming. Healthier food, less booze and just generally look after myself more.

Hi you lovely lot. I’m back in the room. Had a few days to sort my head out!! Told myself I’m better than this, feel stronger.
Will read back now. Hope you’ve all had a great bank holiday so far.
And thanks once again for all your lovely words. They really did boost me so much when I felt so low. You’ve become friends x

Waterandlemonjuice · 25/08/2019 18:15

SEPTEMBER, that sounds like a plan! It’s only 2 minutes away too...

Flossie44 · 25/08/2019 18:27

Longest - such a shame it’s been overcast for you, but less hassle that panicking about sun screen etc. Sounds like you’ve had a lovely time regardless.

NC4 - sounds lovely that your ds went out with you like that. Well done on moderating.

Madame - they certainly do grow up so quickly. How are you feeling about her leaving home?? When my ds went to uni, he was 20. He was ready and I certainly was ready for him to go!! Loads of parents were crying as they dropped their children at the student halls. I think I was the only one who didn’t cry!! Felt a bit bad. But think it was because he really needed to fly solo by then.

Frouby - I too am up for a healthy September. I always find September an easy time to start. As I said before, I lost 8lb in the last month. Although the last few days have been an utter disaster food and drink wise!!
So I too am back on track come Tuesday!! I started couch to 5k again this morning and I’m going to eat healthy and aim for 3 af nights a week. My aim is to become confident and strong. Sadly I know the way I look has a lot to do with that.

MadameForest · 25/08/2019 19:01

Flossie so pleased you are ok and having positive thoughts about September. And well done for starting couch to 5k how long is the programme? When I started running I didn't know it existed and just ran 5k stopping once, then the next day didn't stop. Exercise isn't fundamental to losing weight but it's good to be toned and even better for the head. This week I've run 100km, cycled 45km and swum 3.5 km and put on 1kg 😂 - too much chocolate cheese and wine.
Regarding DD - since she has had her car I've hardly see her so I don't think I'll be crying as I'm used to her not being around much. Even though I brought the DC up alone I've never been a mother hen and have a life outside of the DC and work largely based around sport.

Longest she is going to study Applied foreign languages at the Fac in Rennes. She is bilingual having lived here since18months old so theEngkush will be easy, less sp the Mandarin! In France university is still free in the state universities (phew). Most students go to the local Fac unless they are specialising in something like engineering etc. DD has a flat share in Rennes but will probably be back most weekends as it's only 30 miles away. She has a washing machine so hopefully won't be bringing her laundry back...

Flossie44 · 25/08/2019 19:13

Madame - I’ve always been a runner. Ran in the national cross country championships when I was younger and was county 3km champ. Did a few half marathons too. Then when the children were younger it all went to pot!! Started again about 3yrs ago, had built up to about 10k and tore a ligament in my knee. Got the go ahead from physio to start again but hadn’t yet. A few weeks ago something happened (no idea what!) in my ankle and it started clicking and locking and popping. The pain was in my ankle but also up into my leg and under my heel. It was swollen too. The swelling has eased and it’s not clicking as much but I have to say I’m a bit nervous. BUT I started anyway and am hoping for the best. It’s an 8week programme. I’m doing it with dd1 as she’s never really run before. I think it’s a very gentle programme that builds incredibly slowly so I’m hoping it’s good for my injuries. Otherwise I’d have tried to run a couple of miles straight off. But prob not wise just yet.
It’s so tricky tho because in my head I’m 20yrs younger and running long distance in quick times and coming away with trophies and medals. However now..everything hurts 😂😂

MadameForest · 25/08/2019 20:31

Flossie all the best runners I know are ex cross country runners who started running when they were young (not my case). A gap for children, a career and they are back running again no problem, and often very fast because they have the heart for it. I'm sure it will be the same for you and if you can overcome the knee and ankle problem. Do you know what your resting heart rate is? I bet quite low. You are being wise doing things gradually, but I'm sure you will be fine. The most important thing is to enjoy the sport you choose.
Next time you are over in France let me know and we can do a 10k together Wink

Flossie44 · 25/08/2019 21:41

Ahhhh thanks Madame. Let’s hope so!! I tend to get back into it really quickly. Trouble is I’ve had probs with my heart. It’s slightly enlarged from my running when I was younger. It pumps a bit wierd now so need to strengthen it again. I’ve got a slight murmur too. My resting HR used to be 40 (!!) but it’s now 68.
Its my dream to be a runner again. Has been for ages.
I’d love to run with you. Omg imagine!! We could toast it at the end 🍷 😂

Dionysa · 25/08/2019 22:02

Loving reading all of this. Flossie, I'm glad you are sounding more positive. I have been thinking about you. Running sounds like a brilliant idea. I've never been able to run. DS is an obsessive runner, and discovering running has been fantastic for him. I love the thought of you running with MadameF!

Thanks, all, for reminding me that I'm not a failure.

Have, amazingly, managed an AF night tonight. This is partly because I've had such a wet week that I'm now full of health anxiety again (my left arm is numb, which Google says is a sign of alcohol-induced neurological damage). Plus I have got two days involving parties and drinks coming up, so thought I absolutely have to have a night off tonight. I haven't missed it, actually. I think the hungover and 'crap sleep' effect has gradually built up over the week to the point where I want to give myself a break for a night.

Madame, that's exciting for your DD. I am really looking forward to mine going to university. I never thought I'd think that when they were little, but I think I am better with small children than with teenagers. Both are out this evening, which I'm glad about. Your afternoon with DS sounds fab, though, NC4.

Longest, I'm glad you have had a good holiday. Back to school soon!! My main aim for September is not to put the bunting out until the DC are finally off the premises. Grin

Haggisfish · 25/08/2019 22:35

Well done driers! I know the neurological fear...Blush I have had half a bottle for two nights in a row which isn’t good-skipping back into old habits, but am going to try for rest of week to be dry. I’m in a family holiday where dinner is a communal and dry affair, so that will help greatly. Dinner is my Achilles heel. I glub while eating. Jealous of runners-I like running but have never done it consistently.

leavingAqaba · 26/08/2019 06:52

Hi all. Glad to hear you are feeling positive flossie good luck with the running. I was a cross country runner as a kid too, weirdly I have no interest now. My sister runs enough for the both of us and boy does she let me know 😂
I’m so up for healthier September, good month for me too, makes sense that it’s better than January in a lot of places. My kids are back at school on Wednesday, the older one has been off for over 8 weeks and younger for over 12. Dear god.

Flossie44 · 26/08/2019 09:13

Off school for over 12 weeks?!!!! 😱😱

leavingAqaba · 26/08/2019 10:10

Exactly Flossie bloody nightmare. He is moving from a school that finished just before the end of May and joining a school starting next week. At least this year I will have the children on the same schedule In the mornings and same term dates. Hopefully it will make life a bit less complicated. 🤞🏻

longestlurkerever · 26/08/2019 19:43

You almost made it Leaving!!

Ugh, home after the longest journey ever. Turns out Wales is massive, and I am the only driver in our family. Feel like I might actually be sick. Got home and dd2 asks if we can go to the beach tomorrow. Erm, there isn't one. Big strop. Have compromised on lido because we have not been wet enough! Grin

Flossie44 · 26/08/2019 19:58

Longest, you are amazing!! If my dd had asked that the day after getting back from a long drive and holiday, I’d be screaming and rocking in a corner!!!!!!!

longestlurkerever · 26/08/2019 20:17

You see I genuinely think of myself as pretty lazy. I am definitely no Mme F. Lido is ten mins away and a pretty easy way to spend an hour or two once you've blown up the world's biggest inflatables.

longestlurkerever · 26/08/2019 20:18

Though DD has a free trampoline park ticket that's burning a hole in her pocket too

Flossie44 · 26/08/2019 20:52

You are DEFINATELY not a lazy mummy!!!! When ds was little, I’d search places with a nice coffee shop attached..have a coffee while he played.
With dd’s it’s a bit trickier due to dd2 not being able to do a lot. But generally we try and get to the beach most spare minutes we have. Again....I have a coffee, and they play!!
I beat myself up constantly about it!!
You are inspirational to do what you do and also work!!

longestlurkerever · 26/08/2019 20:55

Yeah I do a lot of that too Flossie! When I am not drinking alcohol I am generally inhaling caffeine like it's going out of fashion. Perhaps that's why I find it hard to keep still! Grin
