To be disappointed DS would hypothetically leg it while I got attacked *MNHQ changed title at OP's request*

I was out walking just now in the dark and walked in to a cobweb. I freaked out and turned to DS screaming get it off me!
DS started yelling what and ran. I yelled where are you going it’s a spider.
DS came back and said I gave him a heart attack because he thought it was a mad man with a knife. I said well what would you have done if it was. DS said run, fast.
So you would leave me to die? Yes, better than two people stabbed.
AIBU to be slightly disappointed that I raised my boy for 18 years alone and he would leave me to die? (Lighthearted)

I think it’s stranger you would expect your child to get stabbed. I would want DS to keep himself safe and go and get help

Whu · 30/08/2023 21:36

Oh. I can’t imagine wanting my DS to get stabbed for me.
Sorry must be having a sense of humour bypass but as young men are statistically most likely to get killed by knife crime I can’t find any humour in it.

i think you missed the “lighthearted” part 😅

BakingBeanz · 30/08/2023 21:36

It’s not very lighthearted, is it?

I really wouldn’t want my son to risk his life for me.

TGGreen · 30/08/2023 21:37

Twisted thought process you have there...

I don’t really see how it is light hearted tbh. To even have that conversation isn’t really lighthearted

OwlBasket · 30/08/2023 21:38

Yeah. Really lighthearted. Too right he should run

Wherethecrawdadssingg · 30/08/2023 21:38

This is like a meme I saw that a woman was upset by her boyfriend saying he wouldn’t still love her if she was a worm.

Alargeoneplease89 · 30/08/2023 21:38

I would be glad I raised my DS with sense .... run forest run!

continentallentil · 30/08/2023 21:40

It’s just nature OP - the genes have to be protected going forwards not backwards. Biologically, once you’ve raised your kids you are redundant. Soz 😬🕷️🕸️

Except that young men are actually particularly at risk of being stabbed

Endofsummerisinsight · 30/08/2023 21:41

More than 280 people were killed by stabbing last year. I don’t think it’s light hearted.

I have just done a massive nose trick.

I will be using this to annoy my partner. With a special whiney voice.

Specialtoes · 30/08/2023 21:42

I don't know, I think I'd be glad he'd keep himself safe but also a bit sad his instinct wasn't to automatically try to protect me.

semideponent · 30/08/2023 21:45

This is a category error. The idea of DS getting stabbed and lighthearted just don't belong in the same paragraph or post.

Vanillalime · 30/08/2023 21:45

I blame his parents for the poor upbringing! 😜

Next time you need to grab him like a human shield before he has time to react!

Thecomfortador · 30/08/2023 21:45

Be proud that he has good instinct. I always remember an episode of Buffy where she says (paraphrasing) if your instinct is to run, then run. Don't try to fight something that might be bigger, stronger, better armed than you are.

EffinMagicFairy · 30/08/2023 21:46

Live in a town where a teen was tragically stabbed a few weeks ago - this is not a light hearted thread however you word it.

Yeah me too , what strange things to cross your mind . You need to think about more sedate things , very dramatic

DiscoBeat · 30/08/2023 21:48

Lighthearted?? Please don't post anything that's not lighthearted.
I would not want my sons to get stabbed for me. They have their whole life ahead of them.

Cocopogo · 30/08/2023 21:49

It didn’t cross my mind, me and DS were chatting and laughing about it. We live in a small village so knife crime isn’t really an issue here. Those saying I wanted him to be stabbed are daft, at most I wanted him to grab me and run!

Oh God I will never forget the time I was at one of those spooky Halloween things with my then 8 year old DS when a zombie ran towards me and I pulled DS in front of me...........🤣🤣🤣🤣

user76541055773 · 30/08/2023 21:50

Sorry OP. I guess people can’t see past the wording.

If you’d said AIBU to be disappointed DS wouldn’t be my human shield” or something similar you’d have got a different reaction

SisterMichaelsHabit · 30/08/2023 21:50

What the actual fuck? No. I would be angry if my DS jumped in front of me to get stabbed for me. I would say to him "why didn't you save yourself, you have your whole life ahead of you?!"

Not from me. My job is to protect my babies and fight to the death for them when needed, no matter how tall they grow.
