To be disappointed DS would hypothetically leg it while I got attacked *MNHQ changed title at OP's request*

I was out walking just now in the dark and walked in to a cobweb. I freaked out and turned to DS screaming get it off me!
DS started yelling what and ran. I yelled where are you going it’s a spider.
DS came back and said I gave him a heart attack because he thought it was a mad man with a knife. I said well what would you have done if it was. DS said run, fast.
So you would leave me to die? Yes, better than two people stabbed.
AIBU to be slightly disappointed that I raised my boy for 18 years alone and he would leave me to die? (Lighthearted)

What. The. Fuck.

Yes I would rather be stabbed if it meant my son was okay.

Obviously. As would OP. It's a joke

It's an excellent show, wish they do more or a spinoff.

It was completed some time ago, and the ending was perfect in a wierd way. So I don't hope for more, But yes a spinoff could work. I had to originally watch it on Channel 5 whose idea of scheduling US shows was never mine. Who wants to watch 11pm on Wed, then 2am on Friday, then cancelled but they never told you. There was a Medium show (possibly) they did that too as well. In the end the Channel 5 execs clearly hated it so much they just cancelled it. But tough luck viewer!

@Blondebutnotlegally I'm clearly in a bad mood but jokes are meant to be funny.

This is like a meme I saw that a woman was upset by her boyfriend saying he wouldn’t still love her if she was a worm.

I just asked my husband. He said no. I'm truly heartbroken.

Lots of people find it funny. Lots don't. Maybe take it as it was intended to be in that case - lighthearted and not very serious.

I never normally say this on here but you should LTB. Be a free worm

Very bad taste of joke

Lesina · 30/08/2023 22:28

I have told my child to run every single time. You seem a bit unnatural.

runningonberocca · 30/08/2023 22:29

There are far too many boys and young men dying needlessly from stabbings for me to find anything “ lighthearted “ in this.

To some, not to everyone.

There was a meme showing a path through a load of huge spiders and their webs with a caption saying: "Would you drive through this to save your wife's life?" Dh said he'd come to my funeral.

I would hope that my DC would help me if an attacker suddenly leapt out at me because I would most likely squeal and then run around like a headless chicken. I'd hope they'd have more sense!

All of those people saying they would do this, that and the other for their children should they need it are talking rubbish imo; until you're actually in a situation where you have to react when you're panicking, you can't say what you'd do because you can't think rationally when you're panicking. I knew in theory what to do but I actually squealed and ran to the corner of my kitchen when a pan on the cooker was on fire, leaving my at the time toddler ds in the way. Dh had to come in and sort it out.

Theunamedcat · 30/08/2023 22:37

Anyone seen the panic room tiktok? The guy freaks shoves his girlfriend towards the "danger" and legs it the hired scarer gives girlfriend the weapon and they both run off after the man 😂

InSpainTheRain · 30/08/2023 22:38

I'd be pleased DS's reaction is to run from trouble and get help!

AmazingSnakeHead · 30/08/2023 22:40

I screamed the other day when I saw a massive spider. My little 3 year old DS ran into the room with his little arms raised ready to defend me! And he didn't even know what from. I was so moved and he got a big hug. But yes, in real danger I would of course want him to run fast in the opposite direction.

I'm sure you'd rather your DS escaped than got stabbed too. I know I'd take being stabbed to allow any of my DC to escape.

IvorTheEngineDriver · 31/08/2023 00:10

Give it up OP. All the MNers with a sense of humour left this place years ago.

RavingStyle · 31/08/2023 00:26

If OP had written "AIBU to be disappointed that DS would run away rather than try to save me from danger" then tell her anecdote, then yes, it'd have been amusing.

But the title To be disappointed DS would not get stabbed for me is pretty horrible.

It does look that way, doesn't it? Far too much bosom-hoiking around here these days.

I don't understand Harold trying to and then john sacrificing themselves the world needed them, passing the mantle to root and Shaw I can understand.

ManchesterLu · 31/08/2023 00:38

I don't think many people have my warped sense of humour, but me and DP often have conversations of would you do X, Y or Z for me, ends up sounding like a Bruno Mars song! (Grenade)

How is this lighthearted

ReleasetheCrackHen · 31/08/2023 01:42
dance spider GIF

I felt the joke is more that a teen confused a cobweb with a knife wielding attacker?

This is the most adorable spider on the planet by the way doing his come hither dance to impress a female spider. Part of it includes vibrations on the branch that the female feels like we’d feel a drum beat.

Lwrenagain · 31/08/2023 02:52

@Blondebutnotlegally my partner would sheild me from any axe wielding lunatic, he'd push me out the way of a lorry, he'd take a bullet for me.

He would pick me up and use me as a weapon to squish a spider without a second thought, if he didn't have a shoe to hand.

We should start a support group 😂

I think it’s stranger you would expect your child to get stabbed. I would want DS to keep himself safe and go and get help

Absolutely I'd rather die then risk my child I'd be screaming run

Very bad taste of joke

Who made you the gatekeeper of what's funny? I love this, and it's exactly what I would say.

You can say 'omg I can't believe you'd leave me to get stabbed' and the reality (God forbid) be the total opposite. That's literally the joke.

Granted, if you live in an area where getting randomly stabbed is unlikely, it's funnier. If you live in a rough place where it's a real possibility then no, you probably wouldn't joke about it.
