To be disappointed DS would hypothetically leg it while I got attacked *MNHQ changed title at OP's request*

I was out walking just now in the dark and walked in to a cobweb. I freaked out and turned to DS screaming get it off me!
DS started yelling what and ran. I yelled where are you going it’s a spider.
DS came back and said I gave him a heart attack because he thought it was a mad man with a knife. I said well what would you have done if it was. DS said run, fast.
So you would leave me to die? Yes, better than two people stabbed.
AIBU to be slightly disappointed that I raised my boy for 18 years alone and he would leave me to die? (Lighthearted)

That light Hearted comment wasn’t really a lighthearted statement. The only person I would expect to put themselves in danger for me would be my child’s dad/my partner.

when we are watching something and a child or woman goes into a place that’s dangerous or something happens and a parent leaves a child etc we always say how he’d be making sure we were safe together while he went and checked for Danger or dealt with it. So no is your answer to the question I wouldn’t expect my child of any age to stay and risk getting hurt for me

DarkPsy · 30/08/2023 21:53

Rookie mistake. You're supposed to push them towards the danger so you can flee.

Sense of humour bypass here too

saffronsoup · 30/08/2023 21:54

Why did you freak out and well because of a cobweb / spider?

Cocopogo · 30/08/2023 21:55

I just laughed and said thanks a lot I hope you’d at least bother to ring an ambulance but DS knows my sarcasm. I’m just glad there’s no sign of the spider, I’m still feeling itchy now Grin

Not sure, I'd die for my kids but would I die for my parent 👀

Tilllly · 30/08/2023 21:58

I was out for a walk when 7m pregnant

A frog jumped into my path and DH jumped behind me...

His defence was he thought it was a snake...

I feel your pain OP!

ivfbabymomma1 · 30/08/2023 21:58

This has reminded me to tell my son that if we are ever in a life or death situation he is safe himself!!

I get it was lighthearted though don't worry

jlpth · 30/08/2023 21:58

My ds is 17 and I hope he is well aware that I'd want him to run away and just let me get stabbed.

ReleasetheCrackHen · 30/08/2023 21:59
scared april fools GIF

Id be proud I’d raised a boy with good survival instincts- unlike this boy below.

I wouldn’t want a child of mine to be too curious about very large spiders.

BakingBeanz · 30/08/2023 21:36

It’s not very lighthearted, is it?

I really wouldn’t want my son to risk his life for me.

Exactly. Very strange post OP!

Cocopogo · 30/08/2023 22:01

@ReleasetheCrackHen thanks a lot, that’s really helping!

I would rather get stabbed than my son.

fulltum · 30/08/2023 22:03

Bloody hell MN is full of miserable sods recently!

I thought it was funny op! As per pp, your error though for not grabbing him as a shield! 😆😆

i think you missed the “lighthearted” part 😅

Yes, because if you can’t laugh about getting stabbed, what can you laugh about eh?

Hawkins0090 · 30/08/2023 22:03

I always remember the person of interest scene, and Lionel saying in tears you did good shaw.

Seagullchippy · 30/08/2023 22:04

Surely it's natural to want someone you love to want to put you first, even though you'd actually put them first out of love for them? It's the feeling that counts.

Having said that, children in loving families do grow up assuming they're parents put them first, so in that sense you can see it as a sign that you've done well!

Seagullchippy · 30/08/2023 22:07

This reminds me actually of a night years ago when my son was 3 and had wanted me to sleep next to him in his bed. I was woken in the night by a spider running across my face...so I ran out in terror, leapt into my bed and fell asleep there.

To this day, whenever there's a spider, my son reminds me of how I deserted him in the moment of danger: 'you're just going to leave me to get eaten and save yourself again, aren't you!' 😆

I have introduced my teenager to this just recently. We have just finished Season 1. So not quite there yet.

But OP - I am laughing - my teenager would jog off into the distance. No protection there at all. And any spidey would ruin them. I am also rural so teenage stabbings are not my 1st thought. However serious and ongoing they are in other parts of the UK. And they are - so sympathies to others where that is a more common occurrence.

It's an excellent show, wish they do more or a spinoff.

MargaretThursday · 30/08/2023 22:12

🤣🤣🤣
Ds would be the same.

IDontLoveTheWayYouLie · 30/08/2023 22:14

What. The. Fuck.

Yes I would rather be stabbed if it meant my son was okay.

Blondebutnotlegally · 30/08/2023 22:17

My husband would jump in front of any knife wielding maniac to save me. If it were a spider though, he would tie me up and use me as a human sacrifice to buy his freedom
