To be disappointed DS would hypothetically leg it while I got attacked *MNHQ changed title at OP's request*

I was out walking just now in the dark and walked in to a cobweb. I freaked out and turned to DS screaming get it off me!
DS started yelling what and ran. I yelled where are you going it’s a spider.
DS came back and said I gave him a heart attack because he thought it was a mad man with a knife. I said well what would you have done if it was. DS said run, fast.
So you would leave me to die? Yes, better than two people stabbed.
AIBU to be slightly disappointed that I raised my boy for 18 years alone and he would leave me to die? (Lighthearted)

I’d be furious if one of my kids put themselves in harm’s way for me. Run, call for help, but RUN.

I screamed the other day when I saw a massive spider. My little 3 year old DS ran into the room with his little arms raised ready to defend me! And he didn't even know what from. I was so moved and he got a big hug. But yes, in real danger I would of course want him to run fast in the opposite direction.

So cute 🥰

Noicant · 31/08/2023 06:07

Yup DD is definitely in the run away screaming camp. I remember when someone was trying to get in through the back door at night and my brother and I were fighting to get to them first. He didn’t want me to go because I’m his sister I didn’t want him to go because he is younger. Nice to know I could probably rely on him.

GoodnightJude1 · 31/08/2023 06:12

Nope…..

I’d quite happily be left to die if it meant my children were safe.

This is a category error. The idea of DS getting stabbed and lighthearted just don't belong in the same paragraph or post.

I was appalled by the title.
Not remotely funny or amusing.

Same here.
Most parents would lay down their life for their child {any age child}.

I remember getting into really fast flowing water and thinking I was going to be washed away! DH was attempting to get in and rescue me, I was adamant he was to stay in dry land and make sure the children had one parent alive!

That must have been terrifying for you.
Glad you made it out safely.

Reminds me of the time I was standing with exP on a train and we were surrounded by some leery drunk guys who were getting a bit aggressive. We were just trying to avoid eye contact and keep our eyes down till we got to our stop. Someone got off the train at the opposite end of the carriage and exP went to go and take their seat about 20ft away from me. Later I asked him, 'why'd you leave me on my own?' 'You're a girl, statistically you're less likely to be killed in a drunken brawl'.

Oh ok then! 😳

I got that it was meant to be lighthearted OP. Of course you'd always want your DC to save themselves in a real situation but in a non-real scenario, you'd also kinda like them to not skedaddle and leave you to it. 😂

ssd · 31/08/2023 07:25

Can't believe this thread is still going. Even with a different title. Really stupid premise for a thread. And no amounts of tinkly 'lighthearted' makes it better.

FrangipaniBlue · 31/08/2023 07:44

When we were in Florida last year at Universal Halloween Horror nights at one point when both a werewolf and a vampire were coming at me I legged it and abandoned my DS (14 at the time), so I totally feel your DS 😂

Fight or flight reflex 🤷🏻‍♀️

Tilllly · 31/08/2023 07:45

Well you don't have to keep reading @ssd 😉

user76541055773 · 31/08/2023 08:12

@TibetanTerrah You can say 'omg I can't believe you'd leave me to get stabbed' and the reality (God forbid) be the total opposite. That's literally the joke.

Yup. I am kinda astounded at the number of people who clearly don’t “get it”. Particularly all the rather pious rounds of “no, I’m the opposite OP. I would want my child to live”

I mean, that is the actual joke. OF COURSE OP doesn’t really want her child to get hurt. That’s the joke.

CaseSolved · 31/08/2023 11:21

I have always told my son to run.
I would want him to run and not risk his life for me.

saraclara · 31/08/2023 11:27

Jeeze. I thought I took life too seriously, but clearly I'm a rank amateur.

W0tnow · 31/08/2023 11:42

Does no one have a sense of humour anymore?

My son would never hear the end of it. 😈

Oh my gosh that is so sweet!
