I suppose for me it's various Doctor Who personnel due to my peripheral involvement with the "franchise" - Sophie Aldred, who was lovely, and Tom Baker, who didn't disappoint as he was mad as cheese. (My mum also taught him French for a while.) And the luuuuurvely Nicola Bryant who has a dazzling smile!

I was in the company of Will Self for a while at a book do. He didn't really say anything I remember.

Mine aren't especially stellar, so I hope for more from you lot!! No glancing encounters - proper conversations only!

I have met and been to Porl Thompsons (The Cure) house. His bathroom is huge with a massive telly. He had gold painted toenails and lots of glass lanterns in his house.

He is a family friend.

I used to work with Lewis Hamilton...well actually I worked for his Dad and Lewis would work in his spare time. Lovely boy.

Also Rowan Atkinson was a very dear friend of my old boss. I once, shamefully, cut him off on a conference call three times. Then I had to put money in his parking meter when he came to the office.

Hardly the highlife. Although I did work at sony music for a time and went to lots of meet and greet parties but only said hello to the slebs.

I met Sir Chris Hoy recently when he was signing some artwork prints of him that DP had done- he was a real gent, very pleasant.

I've met a few authors at book signings when I worked in a bookshop, including Will Self and Sheila Hancock.

I have had the odd duvet fumble with a couple, but I'm not telling.

And DP has been for a drink with Thom York of Radiohead.

I met Cate Blanchette at a friend's DS's birthday party, and again at said friend's party. She's very lovely and tries to have normal conversations, but it must be hard when everyone you talk to is trying so very hard to be cool and casual while their mouth hangs open.

BOF, what did your DP say about TY?

BiteOfFun · 05/10/2009 19:27

Just that he was a bit quiet and knackered-looking, and got off early. DP is mates with the lighting director on their tours, who got him a VIP pass.

When I was working at my DC's school I met Jeremy Beadle. He got involved with the school after a car accident - one of the PE teachers had stopped to help him & JB was so grateful he offered to give his time to help with fundraising. He hosted a quiz night and was hilarious & really entertaining. He spent lots of time talking to staff, parents & students.

drosophila · 05/10/2009 19:29

I met Clive Owen through work and he was really nice but I was a bit disconcerted by his eyes which were very striking.

GypsyMoth · 05/10/2009 19:30

i used to work at 'fun with music' in st johns wood.

many famous pupils but i was quite friendly with Peter o Toole, his son Lorcan came to our group. nice man and made me laugh alot. he did some favours for us with our work on music for shakespeare too. he used to drive a battered old mini which he used to have to fold himself in half to get into. i liked him, very approachable, and a gentleman

king of Greece once stopped and helped me pick up a pile of kids school books i had dropped too...all the other parents waiting for their kids just watched me,but he got down and helped.we had his son Phillipos in the group who was a gorgeous little boy.didn't know him though, just a quick hello each session,or his wife

lou33 · 05/10/2009 19:30

though they were not famous when they met

RubyBooBerry · 05/10/2009 19:30

Ooh, I met Tony Hadley in Ayia Napa when he did a live set, and I flirted with him!

bibbitybobbityCAT · 05/10/2009 19:31

Oh hundreds. Don't have time to chronicle them all. Includes Will Self though, not at a book signing .

But, UQD, I am so sure I saw on a thread you were on not so long ago when you said you and your DW were both famous?

I had a little fantasy you were Meera and Sanjeev !

jennifersofia · 05/10/2009 19:35

I gave directions to Gordon Ramsey once - he was very polite! I also got in a tiff with Faye Dunaway over the fact that she didn't want to put her signature on a cheque for the things that she was paying for, and I also served Sidney Poitier once - he was a complete gentleman. (hooray!)

Ewe · 05/10/2009 19:36

I have properly met a couple of ageing rock stars due to being friends with there children. Met Phil Collins at local polo club and was at a wedding recently that Natasha Kaplinksky was at, she was really friendly.

DP has DJd with quite a sleb DJs but unless you're that type of person it's not very impressive!

bibbitybobbityCAT · 05/10/2009 19:49

So, UQD ...

tell us more

shandyleer · 05/10/2009 19:59

Well, I have met Tim Wonnacott - and if any of you dare to ask who the lovely Tim is I will be very upset indeed!

We were away for the weekend couple of years ago, and ds1 and ds2 came ambling along to the cafe where we were having breakfast, having stopped off at a shop en route. DS1 said vaguely "Oh we've just seen that bloke you like".

Me: "Who"

DS1: "You know, that one on the telly, the stupid one on that boring programme about antiques"

I didn't really belive him (him not being a great Bargain Hunt fan) but sure enough, bit later was sitting on a bench waiting for DH, when Tim ambled along, I smiled, he smiled, then he sat and chatted for about 10 minutes and was lovely to DD and DS3! Very charming man.

But never mind that, Lou33 who is your sis married too? And Bite, please please can you
give me a clue?

winnybella · 05/10/2009 20:11

I met Leonardo DiCaprio,he invited me to a party in NY at his manager's house.
Jay-Z.
Plenty more, but had job in fashion and most of those did not evolve into friendships iyswim.
That was ages ago, now I am a hausfrau and never meet anyone new.

herjazz · 05/10/2009 20:12

I've met quite a few. Obviously I am a magnet for them

I once was mistaken for bjork and escorted by bouncers into pulp's private party (they were at the height of their fame) I was just a student nobody hanging around having a gawp. Looked fokkall like bjork as well - obv fooled NOBODY inside

ScaryFucker · 05/10/2009 20:15
