So who has met a sleb properly, to speak to? and how did you meet them?

I suppose for me it's various Doctor Who personnel due to my peripheral involvement with the "franchise" - Sophie Aldred, who was lovely, and Tom Baker, who didn't disappoint as he was mad as cheese. (My mum also taught him French for a while.) And the luuuuurvely Nicola Bryant who has a dazzling smile!

I was in the company of Will Self for a while at a book do. He didn't really say anything I remember.

Mine aren't especially stellar, so I hope for more from you lot!! No glancing encounters - proper conversations only!

Oh and I've had meetings with Richard Curtis before, he is sooooooooo (there's no other word for it, brace yerselves) DISHY!

And I've met all the Teletubbies.

I was on just slightly more than nodding aquaintance with Bill Nighy when I lived ion London.

He obviously lived around the corner as we were both regulars in our local shop.

He was very nice.

My Tom Baker experience is very , and I think I've recounted it here before.

I was a big DW fan as a child, and when we went to visit my Godmother once, she very kindly took me to a local school fete, where TB was the Visiting Celeb.

Unfortunately at that time my heart firmly belonged to Jon Pertwee, and I was Very Angry Indeed that TB had taken over the role.

I was standing very sulkily to one side (and I have a photo to prove it) when the crowd of children surrounding him parted, and he saw me. He very kindly gestured to me to come over, and I violently shook my head and stomped off.

Fortunately neither my parents or Godmother saw this, but I am still slightly mortified to this day again

Iman and David Bowie, both absoloutley lovely and down to earth. I used to nanny and one of the kids I looked after was in the same class as their daughter.

Mario testino, bonkers and brilliant.

Kate Hudson, grumpy.

Narcisso Rodriguez teeny tiny but very sweet man.

Met lots through work and, sadly, many were obnoxious.
The worst?
Hugh Grunt's Chutney selling ex
Fannie the Dog's (RIP) owner
John Major's former mistress
and a smarmy professional DIYer who has a gimlet eye for the laydees - preferably those aged 21 and under.

Theo P was nice though. Shrewd but no Dragon.

Dunno if they qualify as slebs but i saw in the millenium with Carole Malone and Amanda Platell at a house party in London. My XH's brother was a bigwig in media circles and it was his party i had met Carole a few times though him but she bought Amanda with her (at the time she was William Hauge's press secretary) Carole's hubby is lovely but she is definately the boss! Amanda i quite liked too but since i met her i have happened across one or two of her articles and its made me a bit about her now. Tbh i was pretty pissed each time we met up so not great judgement.

Arizona, I so wish you hadn't posted that. I know you won't want to tell, but I wonder who it is.

FuriousGeorge · 09/10/2009 23:34

DH meets loads through work, but often it slips his mind to tell me.The only way I find out is when I comment on someone on tv and dh will then tel me what they are really like.

I can't remember all of them, but here are a few.
Duke of Edinburgh-very nice apparently.
Brian Blessed-exactly like his tv persona
Prince Andrew-knob
Digby Jones-full of himself
Warwick Davis [Starwars]-absolutely lovely guy

I know one or two famous folk, but know them socially and I would out myself if I said who they were.

fruitspooksbatsintheeaves · 09/10/2009 23:46

I never met anyone famous

WickedWench · 10/10/2009 00:07

I used to do theatre and tv stuff so I've met lots. The lovely ones seriously outweighed the awful ones.

Not sure that these are all slebs though they are respected in their profession. I would list the following as lovely:

Alan Rickman (swoon - that voice!)
Phyllida Law (possibly the best woman ever)
Jessica Hynes (was Stevenson)
David Jason
Sean Pertwee
Stephen Tompkinson
Michael Ball
Louise Plowright
Tim Dantay
Phylis Logan
Ian Kelsey
Willie Ross (Rita, Sue & Bob Too)
Sean Gilder (Paddy in Shameless)

There's probably a good few I've forgotten. I can count the unpleasant ones on the fingers of one hand though.

Met Sue Pollard and Melvyn Hayes in Oman. DD was a support act for Atomic Kitten a few times so met them all including Kerry. My sister was in the same class at school as Annie Lennox. My DD is a wee bit well known in our area as she is "starring" (joke) in panto in our home town and is in the papers every other day. Thing is she doesn't live here so it's myself and her dad who are receiving all the attention.

Loads. Used to be a music journalist. Some that spring to mind:

The Bad:
Madonna (humourless, tiny, horrible to her staff)
Robbie Williams (off his rocker)
Missy Elliott (extremely short, moody)
Kanye West (horrifically arrogant, tantrummy with his record label minions)
Mary J Blige (very disappointing. Rude and miserable)

The good:
Jay Z (humble, well mannered, capable of polite, intelligent conversation)
Beyonce (sweet girl, much shorter and chunkier than she looks in pics)
Lily Allen (really funny and self deprecating)
Kirsty McColl (lovely, hilarious, clever)

The worst ever: Elton John (vile)

TanyaBranning · 13/10/2009 21:40

Kate Moss - peculiar high pitched cockney accent, bad skin, unpleasant when drunk, total show off/attention seeker in very childish way, awful entourage of hanger-on druggy media whores. Seen her at a few parties/clubs. Al;ways looks mullered.

Posh Spice - looks ill in RL. Smiles much more, though. Stod next to her in a lift and she smelled really nice, too

seeker · 13/10/2009 21:45

I am very very good friends with a well known if slightly past it comic/chatshow host/writer/reality TV appearer.

I went to a ball with the leader of one of the main political parties.

And as a child I waas massively disillusioned when I saw David McCallum, unshaven and wearing a dirty Aran jumper eating cottage pie with ketchup in the BBC canteen!

Prunerz · 13/10/2009 21:45

OMG liahgen - I LOVE Jonathan Meades!
Please tell me he's not an insufferable old git.

lisad123wantsherquoteinDM · 13/10/2009 21:53

Played teniis with cliff richard
Know the lead singer from deepest blue
went to school with Lisa Snowden (she had a different surname growing up, guess she changed it when she got famous)

TanyaBranning · 13/10/2009 22:03

Regularly see Jonathan Ross and/or his wife loading wine into a shopping trolley in local Waitrose.

Eve4Walle · 14/10/2009 09:37

My Dad once met Una Stubbs at a park in London. She watched my baby twin brothers while he had to rescue me from a very high climbing frame. I was about 4 at the time, but she apparrently told me I was very sweet and asked me if I watched Worzel Gummidge. She was very sweet but I remember nothing of this incident!

Duritzfan · 20/10/2009 18:52

I used to work in the music industry too... before I was a lowly sahm I had a really glamorous life .. have met loads - Bob Geldof and Paula Yates were two of my favorites, knew them well.. I was part of the team who look after U2 so got to know them quite well..all lovely.
Bryan Adams is one of the nicest guys I have ever met too . But the sweetest and prob biggest celeb I have met is Sean Penn and his wife Robin .. ds used to go to the same school and they lived down the road from us.. He was fab ... I adored his work before..but after seeing and speaking to him on a regular basis I am now a total fan ..the man is a star - completely normal parent who walked the kids to school each morning and waited at the gates with the rest of us .. Used to come in and do storytime too ..
