Quite apart from Russell Brand hiding in plain sight, how did Jonathan Ross ever work again?

Behaviour not just towards Andrew Sachs but also to his granddaughter actually.

Whats your lower limit to this logic, out of interest? 14 and 24? 10 and 20?

Re reading I did make it sound like that so fair comment. My point was a general one based on men dating much younger women based on misogynistic ideas about 'body count'. Him being geeky again no way negates that- a geeky 26 year old could easily be intimidated by the experience of women his own age and prefer a child (that's what a 16 year old is although they've reached the age of consent).

Totally agree @thundertoast's point on the 'she was mature for her age' defence, especially if @puppylucky met her at 17so AFTER she's got involved with a man in his mid to late 20s.

I know it happens. I know it can result in stable long term relationships. I don't know her personal background and nobody actually knows how 'vulnerable' (you keep using that word) another person is. We have an age of consent based on our view that all children are vulnerable by virtue of their age, and that large age gaps with a teenager as the younger partner again have an asymmetry by virtue of the ages involved, other factors notwithstanding.

I would also be interested in your lower limit- 15 years and 364 days? 14?
I still think the gap is highly questionable, and combined with the Sachsgate behaviour it contributes to me extremely low view of him. Just because misogyny is massively widespread doesn't mean it can't be called out, and patterns like this point towards misogyny.

He’s just been on Brandreth’s podcast and it made me wretch.
As does the Wogan interview with them around their marriage, sitting there talking about her like she was invisible.
He knew she was 13. She may have looked older but 17 tops. We all did in the 80’s I was in clubs at 14/15. Thank God I wasn’t beautiful like her. It was like a curse.
No wonder she was always ill. I can remember reading her autobiography and it was actually a good read. I think she’s in a better place now.
Sadly her second husband was awful to her but at least he was closer in age.
Her mother had a lot to answer for. She let her daughter move in with that disgusting Wyman at 14/15.
But I think he was the one who got caught as the tabloids went to town.
I think in the 60’s/70’s rock stars regularly slept with very young girls.
I do remember one big star said in the 80’s touring the U.S. he was informed of the age of consent in each state as he arrived there.
I hope Mandy Smith is well, wherever she is. Now and again when I see an old pic of her I think she was so, so lovely. In an era when there were enhancers or fillers.

until some years later so perhaps he changed. But my point was that I haven’t seen any signs that he behaved in a predatory way behind the scenes, unlike RB and others. I wouldn’t know what he was aware of and wasn’t but I don’t think it’s a good idea to make assumptions about something so serious.

For anyone below my age demographic, I would say 50 and under I lived in an era when a wrinkly Rolling Stone, Bill Wyman, dated a 13 year old girl and married her at 18. She is Mandy Smith.
They appeared on chat shows, the news teams filmed their wedding and asked everyone for twee comments although I do love that the Stones’ drummer had a face like thunder. Packed full of celebs all having a lovely time while the bride had gone down to about 6 stone, looking like she’d been captured.
She moved in with him at 14, with her mother’s encouragement.
And the mother? She married the rock star’s SON. I shit you not. So JR marrying his young wife made few waves by comparison.

I don't think anyone suggested that he has done anything illegal? Just that we need to raise the bar and there should be social consequences for men who enable and encourage other men in this way.

Yes his granddaughter suffered too (she had also been in a relationship with RB) and says she became an addict as a result of the phone calls.
Also she didn’t have a relationship with AS for 8 years, spoke again shortly before his death.
Can’t believe JR and RB ‘got off’ so lightly after Sachsgate.

She hadn’t “also” been in a relationship with RB, that’s what the call was about, she wasn’t in a relationship with JR.

According to this article, it was 3 years and not 8

And she was making progress coming off drugs before the call was broadcast, rather than the call causing her to become addicted

I’ve just re-read HER interview from today - she says her relationship never recovered with AS and she didn’t see or speak to him FOR 8 YEARS!!
She also claims RB ruined her life and she spiralled into alcohol and drug addictions
Perhaps she’s fibbing?? Jeez!
By my using the word ‘also’ another quibble of yours I don’t understand what you’re talking about. I clearly didn’t mean she’d been in a relationship with JR.
