Random things that you realise, realtively late in life, you just dont like?

Sidebeforeself · Today 11:50

Fairly recently, Ive realised I dont like these things:

Live albums/song recordings. No matter how much I love the band or song.
Watching dance…especially in a musical
Songs named after women…even I can’t explain that one!
Meals where every mouthful is the same…e.g. pizza

I wouldnt have said these things a year ago I dont think , so it proves TIPU am still getting to know myself in my late 50’s!

Anyone else had a similar epiphany?

Totally agree, I like the build up to it and the time off work but the day itself is a load of shite.

I enjoy it now because the three of us - me and my two sons - just eat what we like and do what we like.

I love musicals and watching dancing! But mine would be...

Christmas
Pubs
Pyjama tops (hate it when I only want the trousers but it's a set - gah)
Graphic tees - loads of insta older ladies looking fab and cool in them but I've given up - I always look stupid.
Men, at least as partners - can't be arsed sifting through them, I prefer being single.
Synthetic fabrics - I try hard to avoid them but sometimes you have no choice, Try finding a heated throw that's not synthetic for example. Annoying.

Camping - I've always loved it but in my 50s it's become really uncomfortable and I can't sleep. I need some kind of super luxury home-from-home camping bed but I haven't found it yet.

People, noise, and a lot of men. This has mostly corresponded with my periods leaving the building like Elvis.

People. Going out. Going into the office.

I could have written this with the exact same words.

areyoume09 · Today 15:36

people
socialising
being out past 9.30pm
noise
clubs
supermarkets
mobile phones
being available to everyone 24/7 (though the use of mobile phone)

InjuredDuck · Today 15:37

I realised a few years ago that I don't actually like nuts. I've always eaten them at times like Xmas etc but yeah, I don't like them. I was about 38 when I came to this conclusion 😂

Beaches. Sand is very annoying, it's always windy and you're either too hot or too cold because there's no shade or shelter. Only realised in my 50s that I actively dislike them.

I thought that too, then I discovered Croatia. Rocky/shingly beaches and pine trees to lie under.

Noise - mainly people speaking with very loud voices.

I had to get off the bus a few stops earlier recently due to some people having a really loud chat and another one with a blaring voice yelling on their phone. Made me feel murderous. I live in an area with a lot of students and they seem to shriek and scream their way round the supermarket, well i assume they are students, they are young and stocking up on booze and pizza and they YELL. I try to be tolerant and recall just how loud I was at that age.

Overt messaging in drama’s / films other media. I am pretty Left wing but it seems a lot of drama try to turn themselves into a ‘teaching moment’ about racism, feminism, trans rights etc. etc. such as the female character will fight off 3 large 6 foot guys, the white guy will turn out to be the villain etc.

It’s particularly annoying in a period drama.

It’s 1920’s Britain, and no one is racist, sexist, homophobic or judgemental towards single mothers. Any nice young middle-class women who’ve lived sheltered lives are particularly open-minded - and have remarkably diverse friendship groups.

But this doesn’t apply to the baddies - BOOOOOO! They’re bad in every possible way. The main characters must defeat them and show them
the error of their ways!

Facebook. I suddenly realised I was sharing my life with total strangers & complimenting dreadful photos while adding likes to those who crave adulation. I'm off it never to return.

Monty36 · Today 15:56

The idea modern is better. Progress. It often is not. And I hate the assumption it is. And that the past was worse. It wasn’t. Sometimes it was, but not always.

Lifeomars · Today 15:58

Christmas, I am starting to loathe it mainly because the hype starts so soon, i don't want nearly 8 weeks of lights, horrible old tunes in every shop, (I feel sorry for the staff) , sparkling party wear everywhere i turn, "festive picky bits" in the shops from early November, Beauty Advent calendars for huge amounts of money, fucking outfits for pets, the bloody premeiring of ads that were no doubt filmed in July. If it began late November i would be ok with it, but it is so early and so in your face now and i hate it

MerryAquaKoala · Today 16:00

Being out after dark, no thank you.

Men singing songs coming onto the radio. I can't stand it. Unless it's the vanilla ones you don't really notice like Elton John, James Blunt. But other men singing moany whiney songs as if we give a shit about what they think, I can't stand it. Piss off.

Bananas.

Pears. I just dont get pears. They're demons. Monday...hard, Tuesday. ....Hard,Wednesday....Hard,Thursday. ....totally squidgy, soft and inedible. Bastard pears. When was the nano second where they were edible.

Sir David Attenborough

Infidel. Blasphemer. Wash your mouth out.
😁

I wish he'd retire and give someone else a turn.

Im another one! I had to stop watching the Call the Midwife as they were shoehorning in modern values on racism, birth out of wedlock etc as a teaching moment. A bit jarring.

AND the jane austen sister (?) programme. Way too much “girl power” going on. Irksome.

EDIT I used to love a period drama.

Exactly. It's like a tsunami coming, you can't just decide to ignore it. If you do somehow manage to completely opt out of it, you're a grinch.

I would like it to be just a day, like Easter or pancake day, where you can choose to have particular/fancy food if you want, a few fun traditions or decorations etc but that's it, not a big deal.

Pears are excellent for relieving constipation!

Christmas - endless and thankless donkey work.

Gave on NYE years ago. I want my bed.

Work socialising. The last thing I want to do after hours is hang out with my colleagues.

Driving on motorways or country roads at night.

Mansplaining ... 'What you should do is...'

ExpressCheckout · Today 16:07

My father.

FancyBlueNewt · Today 16:08

Friends having babies. Every little thing is such a kerfuffle that requires money being spent for no reason eg, baby shower, gender reveal party, baby's born present. Im happy for you, have a present. Dont expect me to attend 5 different parties (with a present) and mix with random people to show im happy for you.
Drama. Great fun when you're 20. When you're older I just can't be arsed. I want a simple life.

Waitingfordoggo · Today 16:09

Wine, parties, noise.

AngelinaFibres · Today 16:10

@AngelinaFibres "Men mansplaining. Post menopause I have to stop myself saying things outloud that need to stay in my head."

I think more men should hear those things out loud.

Trouble is that if you're with a group in a cafe and you suddenly burst out with " For fucks, fucking sake Dan ,I dont give a flying fuck about air source heat pumps and if I hear one more fucking word about them I'm going to stab your hand with my fork" it might destroy the genial mood. 😂

ruffler45 · Today 16:11

Any TV programme with "celebrites" in it
Especially comedians who roar with laughter at each other jokes cos no-ne else does as they are just not funny..
