Random things that you realise, realtively late in life, you just dont like?

Sidebeforeself · Today 11:50

Fairly recently, Ive realised I dont like these things:

Live albums/song recordings. No matter how much I love the band or song.
Watching dance…especially in a musical
Songs named after women…even I can’t explain that one!
Meals where every mouthful is the same…e.g. pizza

I wouldnt have said these things a year ago I dont think , so it proves TIPU am still getting to know myself in my late 50’s!

Anyone else had a similar epiphany?

Alcohol. Even when it's other people drinking it. Can't stand it when people are even mildly intoxicated. Was fine with it when I was younger but I've seen it destroy two people in recent years and it was horrifying to watch.

I second this

it had took away two very important people from me and this year my dad. A daily light drinker sharing a bottle with my each night out at the weekend watching football or some live music. His liver gave up. He had no idea he’d taken it too far and I don’t think many do until it’s too late. I’m done with the stuff.

nope, simply stick blade of knife into: crack between end of ‘thread’ on the glass @ the edge of lid & the edge of the lid & lever upwards a millimetre or two & you’ll hear the vacuum hiss slightly, lid is instantly unscrewable.

Nah, I've tried that too! Much trickier.

walks for the sake of walking

My heart sinks when someone says "Let's go for a walk." No, let's not.

Rap the lid on the edge of a worktop or stand it upside down in boiling water, these will release a metal lid.

Rubber band around the lid

Terrible sound quality on TV. I can put an ancient film on & it's spot on. Why can't we do it now?
Hairs. Chin, eyebrows, nostrils.. what are they FOR?
'Work' on faces. Ugh. It shows..
Have to disagree re texts.. DON'T phone me!!

Bearing in mind the title, does that mean you used to like hairs on chin, eyebrows and nostrils?

I hate vintage stuff. I'm mid 60s and I like listening to old punk music when I'm gardening, or cheesy disco when I'm at Aquafit but I mean real vintage stuff (i.e. stuff older than me) especially people who choose to go around dressed like they are from the 1940s in their daily life or people who decorate their entire houses in mid century/Victorian/whatever old era style. I don't know why but I can't stand it. It gives me the creeps.

stupid little yappy fuckers

Into Room 101 you go.😂

Socialising.
Parties.
Anymore than 3 other people. (and i have to REAAAALLLY like them).
Christmas
Birthdays
Crowds
Concerts
Shopping
Musicals
The cold
The heat
Being in a car longer than 1.5hr
Loud people.
Manspreaders
Mansplainers
99 per cent of men.
Bullshitters
Heels
Any sort of beauty treatments.
Anyone on a spa day when Im at my pool swimming.
Non-padded sun loungers on holiday
Shit wine
dogs in restaurants/cafes
soft play (never ever will I go).

I could go on and on. I sound like a right miserable bastard, but actually Im getting way more positive now Im older I think. The list of things I just LOVE and appreciate has increased tenfold and I just love simplicity.
Eg, new pjs, a bath, and jumping into clean crisp bedding eating a plate of crumpets and a milky coffee is my ultimate happiness. Boring prick arent I? 😂

momtoboys · Today 14:54

I can't really think of anything at the moment, but I really enjoyed your list! 😂

Overt messaging in drama’s / films other media. I am pretty Left wing but it seems a lot of drama try to turn themselves into a ‘teaching moment’ about racism, feminism, trans rights etc. etc. such as the female character will fight off 3 large 6 foot guys, the white guy will turn out to be the villain etc.

Agree it’s all so preachy and boring.

Kstrang · Today 14:57

I can’t stand loud voices, I don’t recall them being so stressful to me when I was younger, mind you nowadays it’s people broadcasting their mobile phone conversation to the entire street. Literally can’t escape shouty people. Horrible.

WheresMyHatGone · Today 14:59

One of my friends has been sucked into the land of social media and I just cannot bear to be around her any more.
We cant just go for lunch, it has to be somewhere Instagramable, cant just pop round for coffee and cake as everything has to be photographed and posted on bloody Facebook. It has suddenly dawned on me that everything is just about the face she puts on for others and I am just too old and cynical for that kind of crap.

Christmas Day

Yep. If I didn't have a kid, I would largely ignore the depressing capitalist orgy.

City breaks and museums. I want to be the sort of person who enjoys them, but either I'm doing it wrong or they're boring 😆 I am interested in culture and history to read/watch a documentary, but wandering around to see it leaves me cold and tired.

Have you tried drinking on city breaks? These things are much more fun with the buzz of a Campari spritz in your veins 😆

Weddings, never been to one I've actually enjoyed (and been fed enough at).

Weather. I don't like it too hot, too cold, too windy, too wet, too dry. There is a reason we as a species invented indoors.

The general public. I am way too dumb for there to be that many people more stupid than me.

Gardening

Faffing about with seasonal decorations

Oh weddings! I forgot that.

I dont want to be at any, or to have my own. (people will be expecting that of me soon).
What a load of absolute tosh. Your guests dont want to be there. No one likes it, least of all the bride whose stressed beyond belief. Everyone is bitching and moaning cos they have been left out/have been shoved next to stinky uncle Keith on the losers table. And it costs an arm and a leg - whether you are a guest or the couple.

I wont be doing it again thats for sure.

Americanisms polluting English language
Hollywood films
salted caramel

Or as 95% of Americans would say 'Salted Carrrrrrmel' and miss out the middle vowel 😂
I am with you on Americanisms but that maybe shows my age as it wasn't always so, particular un-favourites:

Headed instead of heading
Gotten instead of got
Ass instead of arse
Generally shortening words, e.g. specialty instead of specialisation, disoriented instead of disorientated ... I could go on 😂

ColinISabirthdaycake · Today 15:12

Agree with so many of the above, although I think a lot of them were always the case for me. I've never been a dog person and I've never liked noisy people.

I don't like forced fun like playing board games but again, I don't think I ever did.

thestudio · Today 15:15

@AngelinaFibres "Men mansplaining. Post menopause I have to stop myself saying things outloud that need to stay in my head."

I think more men should hear those things out loud.

Beaches. Sand is very annoying, it's always windy and you're either too hot or too cold because there's no shade or shelter. Only realised in my 50s that I actively dislike them.

Oldraver · Today 15:22

I get the pizza thing...I love macaroni cheese but only a few spoonfuls

My 13 year old admitted he doesn't like the beach this year, gave me his reasoning and I can't say I disagree! The idea of being on the beach is much better than the reality
