Random things that you realise, realtively late in life, you just dont like?

Sidebeforeself · Today 11:50

Fairly recently, Ive realised I dont like these things:

Live albums/song recordings. No matter how much I love the band or song.
Watching dance…especially in a musical
Songs named after women…even I can’t explain that one!
Meals where every mouthful is the same…e.g. pizza

I wouldnt have said these things a year ago I dont think , so it proves TIPU am still getting to know myself in my late 50’s!

Anyone else had a similar epiphany?

We are a club of 3.

I mean, national treasure and all that, but I really dislike the content.

And at the end the animals are dying and its all my fault....

Men who can't see my point of view chortle!

I bought a t-shirt in Las Vegas for our pub quiz, 'I'm not arguing, I'm simply telling you why I'm right!' .

Nights out that involve moving from one place to another. You have a couple of drinks in a pub and someone will say ‘Shall we go somewhere else for the next one?’

No. We’re fine. We’re at a table. Our coats are over the backs of our chairs. We like the pub, we can hear ourselves speak, G&T here tastes the same as it will if we go somewhere else and our conversation won’t be any different elsewhere. We can just stay put. SO WHY ARE WE AWKWARDLY SHAMBLING AROUND THE CITY IN A STRAGGLING GROUP?

This!!

essasas · Today 14:15

I also hate live music! 🫣😬

Shouty, screamy people. Looking at you Alison Hammond as you are ruining Bake Off again after initially calming down and being tolerable.

Can I also add Judi Love who seems to be the current 'never-off-tv' person, she too shrieks about the slightest thing. Generally audiences who get orgasmic far too much.

purplecorkheart · Today 14:18

Browsing around the shops particularly with someone else. I can take a quick glance in the shop and see if there is what I am looking for and leave in seconds. No I do not want to closely examine a brown jumper that I will never buy or even worse try on some fancy dress that I have no intention of buying.

cornflakecrunchie · Today 14:19

Terrible sound quality on TV. I can put an ancient film on & it's spot on. Why can't we do it now?
Hairs. Chin, eyebrows, nostrils.. what are they FOR?
'Work' on faces. Ugh. It shows..
Have to disagree re texts.. DON'T phone me!!

Most radio DJs ( though I do like Trevor Nelson and his music choices)
Airports
Highly scented anything
Loud people and their attention seeking children
Haughty waiters
Wanky restaurant menus

I agree with all of these. I still remember a waiter in NYC looking me up and down when we asked about a table😂 It was a mediocre restaurant as well. I find myself agreeing with many others on this thread. The BBC adverts. Yes bacon can be very disappointing these days. After several years of abstinence I have realised that I really do like alcohol and I would like more. It doesn’t agree with me nowadays though.

Flying. It's inhumane. There's no leg room and a constant irritating humming noise. I wouldn't even like it if I aways travelled first class. It would still be shit and cramped.

I could happily never fly again but sadly my family loves a foreign holiday.

I can just about cope with an internal UK flight because they're always short and I don't have to deal with any foreign airports.

quequerido · Today 14:23

The countryside and rural like. Boring as f*ck. I like a busy town, some decent shops and restaurants and not being miles from any kind of life. I think it’s a terrible life for kids too

SwirlyGates · Today 14:23

Well well well. I've never in my life met another person who isn't fussed on David Attenborough. It's by far my most unpopular opinion.

Unless one of you is my MIL, there are three of you out there in the world.

Yep. Places where you have to drive to get anywhere. So claustrophobic and depressing.

VictoriaEra · Today 14:24

Agree with all of yours, op.

Unnecessary noise, like in shops/supermarkets where they have the stereo blaring. Absolutely no need for it at all!

Coffee in any shape or form, including in food, sweets etc. I love PG Tips tea but absolutely detest coffee.

The metal lids on jars that just will NOT come off, no matter what I do! I have to use a hammer to drive a nail into the lid to let the air out so I can unscrew the lid!

I’m with you on this one pp. if I start watching something and it’s trying to ‘educate’ me to be nice/ kind then I’m out of there. I have noticed nearly all the pre school books that my grand children have this saccharine quality. Whatever happened to Big bad wolves and scary trolls? 😅

Oh, they need to put a trigger warning on Big Bad Woves and scary trolls these days!

I can't stand the twee over-overs at the start of programmes warning that 'this programme may contain scenes some people will find upsetting'. If you're so ueber sensitive or too thick to recognise fiction from fact then don't watch Midsomer Murders etc., there's a clue in the title!

Rap the lid on the edge of a worktop or stand it upside down in boiling water, these will release a metal lid.

If you mean jam/pickle jars, this type is a game changer.

I've tried various methods over the years (inverting in hot water, other openers, asking DH) but this is the business.

Fireplaces and chimneys

Product marketing characters: Aunt Bessie, (Uncle) Ben, Duracell Bunny, Meerkats

Disney

Little bits of paper that are left when you tear out a page from a ring bound notebook

The 80% of psychology that is bullshit

Dogs. And especially dog walkers in graveyards

Horse brasses and old Singer sewing machines as pub ornaments

Peter Kay

Laptop computers, especially the shit keyboards and trackpads.

Crossings at major junctions that have pedestrian push buttons that do not affect the timing of the traffic lights.

Vertigo inducing action films where people are on tall buildings or hanging from helicopters

People.

That’s the first thing that popped into my head too.

also,
Camping - spent 600 on an airtent, dont care if I ever set foot in it again.
Parties
Going to see bands more than once. I’ve seen you perform- job done.
Fancy restaurants - I’m just not that bothered by food anymore. It’s expensive and can be hit and miss.

Eristealviper · Today 14:35

orange in chocolate
bananas
sourdough
walking
’baby’ potatoes
singing, (actually hate sound of my own voice)

NCOneDayOnly · Today 14:36

Musical theatre. I've got a theory that it's supposed to keep shit 'performers' out of anything decent.... although it backfires whenever some screechy west end show-off gets transplanted into TV or film. And, yes, I'm including the lovely Hannah Waddingham in that statement. She's a fucking awful actor imho. I've started using her as a yardstick in the same vein as Michelle Keegan and Jimmy Nesbitt - if either one of them are in it, it's not worth my time. Absolute dross.

Supermarket grocery deliveries. I've realised I much prefer wandering, slowly, around the supermarket when I've got time to do it. Ferreting out interesting things I'd otherwise miss just by repeating the same online shop every week.

Hen dos. Just. Fucking. No.

Men generally. Loud, obnoxious bastards with no reason to be so fucking pleased with themselves as they appear. My tolerance for them diminishes with every passing year of my life.

Lots of others have said it - dogs. Everywhere and owners who expect them to be treated like poxy royalty. I don't go to restaurants, cafes or coffee shops that permit them. I'm much more tolerant of them in pubs but, even then, not the stupid little yappy fuckers with entitled owners. I like a nice, well-behaved gun dog.

Can just about deal with daytime catch ups but evenings are for relaxing at home if im not working

Instant coffee. It’s made it so much easier when people ask me what I’d like to drink & I can decide straightaway on tea.

Same. I think I've been spoiled with having freshly ground coffee every morning. I also ask for tea if offered a drink, unless it's in a coffee shop.

Being out after 10pm. Would rather be at home

More recently, staying up late. I used to love staying up till 1am but now 11pm feels far too late. Might have something to do with an early rising puppy who sometimes thinks 5.30am is time to get up

Eristealviper · Today 14:44

nope, simply stick blade of knife into: crack between end of ‘thread’ on the glass @ the edge of lid & the edge of the lid & lever upwards a millimetre or two & you’ll hear the vacuum hiss slightly, lid is instantly unscrewable.
