Random things that you realise, realtively late in life, you just dont like?

Sidebeforeself · Today 11:50

Fairly recently, Ive realised I dont like these things:

Live albums/song recordings. No matter how much I love the band or song.
Watching dance…especially in a musical
Songs named after women…even I can’t explain that one!
Meals where every mouthful is the same…e.g. pizza

I wouldnt have said these things a year ago I dont think , so it proves TIPU am still getting to know myself in my late 50’s!

Anyone else had a similar epiphany?

Voiceovers at the start of each episode of a TV series. Call the Midwife did this, and so does Heroes on Amazon. Utterly tedious quasi-philosophical drivel, even if it was Vanessa Redgrave.

Greys Anatomy also guilty of this, utter drivel

Big parties, going out in the evening, musicals, Christmas Day, bras.

People who scream when they see someone after a long time. Yes I know you are excited and happy but there is no need to scream.

My brothers' children. Little arseholes.

Live albums/song recordings. No matter how much I love the band or song.

Totally agree. It has got to be the original released recorded version for me.

MagicMelanie · Today 13:20

Text messaging conversations. Just call me if you need a quick discussion

Agree. So time consuming when a short conversation would cover it.

TheBrunswick · Today 13:21

Bad acting eg. a film or tv series when the characterisation seems forced.
Sob stories on every tv show whether It’s a charitable cause or a contest. BGT being the worst.
Coffee shops, used to love them, now I find them all the same.

Thanks for the warning (never watched it, probably won't now).

kaparo · Today 13:22

Everything these days. I'm happy indoors on my own though. I'm nice haha.

OK, examples -
Background music anywhere. Can't hear the conversations and as for the supermarket, F off.
The tinny sound of leaked music from earphones on public transport. Even worse is the brazen viewing/listening to endless drivel OUT LOUD.
Presenters who take a millennium to get to the point. Come on, get on with it.
Queues for anything. Nope I won't do that. I'll get someone else to do it for me or do without.
Dogs everywhere. No, no no. Stay with your doggie mama or papa but don't come near me. I will walk out of a shop/cafe/restaurant if I see a dog. I don't want them anywhere near me, but others can if they wish.
Ok, I'll stop there. For now.

Driving, especially in the dark and/or rain. I’ve got so much worse as I’ve got older, it’s even intolerable as a passenger now.
I have to go out 3x mornings at 7am and 2 evenings after 5pm and even though it’s only 10 minutes from my house to DD’s, I’m so stressed out by the drive. I’d move house if I could because I’ve got at least 5 more years of this hell.
Airports and flying ( unless the flight is under 2 hours).
We had the worst flight in 30 years at half term, flew to Malaga and how the crew kept their cool I don’t know. 3 families with a dozen kids between them, the 3 Girls were fine, quiet and reading. 3 Mums in hijabs saying nothing, just constantly handing out sweets. The Boys were utterly feral, jumping about, swapping seats and screaming. It was the day of the Storms so the seatbelt sign was on almost all the time - one of the Dads was sat alone at the back 🙄 and kept coming down and sitting in the row with the rowdiest Boys, directly in front of us - the cabin manager told him repeatedly to stop and to calm the boys down 😡 It was an 8am flight so everyone was knackered. The crew made the families wait until everyone else had got off, you could hear the Man gobbing off from the back of the plane, it was front steps only so he had to wait anyway. Never have I been so glad to get off a plane, the one time I hadn’t got earplugs.

I don’t mind the song names but I really don’t like it when a film’s title is the name of its main character, especially when that main character is a fictional creation for the film. Feels really arrogant to me, like the writer says “I invented a whole story about this person and I expect this invented name to lure you in and want to watch the movie”. I don’t care about a random name!

I do understand this is unreasonable. And I don’t mind it at all in books. But i just know i will automatically be put off by it.

Also, clothing with anything written or drawn on it (work uniform excluded).

Well well well. I've never in my life met another person who isn't fussed on David Attenborough. It's by far my most unpopular opinion.

Blanknotebook · Today 13:30

People sending me Facebook reels. My phone keeps pinging and I think it’s an important message and it’s another Facebook reel. I am not interested in receiving them or watching them, I am too busy to just stop and watch bloody reels. I have dropped hints and tried to be polite, apart from saying “Stop sending me the f***g reels!” I don’t know what else to do to stop them.

People who scream when they see someone after a long time. Yes I know you are excited and happy but there is no need to scream.

Also, people who wave at people when they are really close to them. Picture the scene:
A small group of friends around a pub table. Julie walks right up to the table and says “ Hi everyone” whilst waving at each person in turn. THEY CAN SEE YOU JULIE!!!!

I can’t stand him. His programmes are so boring.

Hugs with anyone other than very close family. I am simply not a huggy person and clam up when someone goes in for a big bear hug.

Whatshitnow · Today 13:34

Most radio DJs ( though I do like Trevor Nelson and his music choices)
Airports
Highly scented anything
Loud people and their attention seeking children
Haughty waiters
Wanky restaurant menus

SendforJulietOne · Today 13:36

Overt sexual lyrics in songs. Don't know why, I am far from a prude and have a very rude/dark sense of humour. But Rhianna makes me cringe!

Pantomimes. They make me want to crawl under the seat and die.

Caravan holidays.

Busses.
