A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

After the expected horror shock budget last week I think the general sense I get from people I've spoken in professional sense is relief that it was essentially a do nothing budget. Hopefully we can continue to limp through to the next election with Healey taking a do no (more) harm approach.

Yes it was a damp squib, dressed up as meant to make us all say ghee, thanks.

SapphireCasino · Yesterday 20:28

I don’t know that it was a harmless budget

Savers have to pay extra tax
Landlord have to pay extra tax

it wasn’t the horror show that people might have been worried about, but it’s not great.

My partner's had enough as a private landlord and he's selling his house toot sweet. He's been slammed with another tax bill today and what he pays each year in tax is eye watering.

I think a pretty high number of small landlords are looking to sell up. There is plenty of private equity money in the market at the moment buying up property to compensate. Oddly for a Government who seem to hate business in every other respect they seem particularly keen for people to rent their homes from big business.

Interest rates are only heading up as well for the foreseeable so margins will be squeeze for any small investors who have mortgages can get access to whole sale markets and the tax deductions.

Yep, targeting another group who get off their arses and make something of their lives. I'm dreading the CG tax he's going to have to pay.

Talking to someone at the weekend up to 2 out of three small landlords depending on area. The tenants will be homeless there's no spare capacity except in a bedroom in a hotel which will please the hoteliers losing immigration to other areas such as social housing. In our county they're building 245 units on three sites preferences being to house immigration people.

Now the landlords properties will be bought and let again, anything under 200k being snapped up. But the rents will be a lot higher.

My friend is terrified her landlord has said they're selling next year, she's asked to buy it so is saving like crazy, her parents are going to help out. Luckily deadbeat dad is gone. I hope it all goes well for this family.

It's awful, but only to be expected. Hope your friend can meet the budget to buy. This government never has and never will be business oriented. I hate the party with a passion for its destructive tactics.

Well the allowance has been reduced so I think it's 40% after that.

You know that the only thing left with any meat on now is private pensions. That tax free lump sum will reduce or be taxed.

I've another friend works in housing for the council. For the last two years her department have been contacting empty home owners, probate, etc. they've completed databases now, she says that the gloves are coming off. They'll be taking over them, putting in people and handing over rent.

Luckily it won't be run by local councils but remotely.

The world is spinning too fast for me these days.

SapphireCasino · Yesterday 21:21

@justasking111 no offence to you but I don’t believe what your contact has told you. And how would a project like that be run remotely?

This country is in even more trouble than I thought if councils are actually going to do that… I don’t think they are though.

MPforTitipu · Yesterday 21:27

Listening to LBC (Nick Ferrari) this morning, discussing Emma Reynolds saying that employers are not working people. A business owner rang in, incandescent, and called her a loser. 'She's never done anything of value in her life'. I was inclined to think that applied quite broadly.

We're in Wales. We have two senedd buildings North and South. Rent smart Wales is run out of Cardiff city council most staff working from home. That would just grow. Our population at the last census was 3.4 million I think so we're talking about the population of Greater Manchester.

I don't know how many people Khan is in charge of or how it would work in England though.

SapphireCasino · Yesterday 21:33

@justasking111 I think we’re talking at cross purposes here

I meant the actual project of taking over properties (which isn’t happening) - that isn’t something that could be done remotely… of course the paperwork can be, but not the physical stuff.

Sorry, I may have completely misunderstood what you were saying in the first place. I’ve confused myself now.

We have a housing association in every county, some are really big now. I had to visit the industrial estate locally where one HQ complete with warehousing and garages are located. Monday morning there were 10 big shiny Mercedes vans loading up with gear for onsite jobs.

We have building firms who only build repair social/sheltered housing. It's big business.

All the new properties are built to be passive Haus with solar panels, heat pumps, triple glazing etc

Don't forget we're a socialist principality, for 27 years have been learning to organise ourselves after a fashion.

In my view the same applies to all labour politicians. How can it be that we have such an incompetent bunch of imbeciles running the country? It's like putting chimpanzees in charge of running a zoo.

I’m not surprised. It’s completely ridiculous and maddening. And yes agree with @PurplePinatait’s all Labour.

Around 20 years ago the father of a child I used to look after worked for the Waltham Forest council in London. His job was to find empty properties and convince owners to rent them out.

Not the same as suggested but putting together a database/list of empty properties is definitely something some councils do.

It must be so frustrating for small business owners having a government that is so out of touch

SapphireCasino · Yesterday 22:18

@Neverstopwondering oh I know they do that, but that’s very different than what I thought was being suggested. Anyway, the next posts mean that I’ve completely misunderstood.

I haven’t watched QT for years but just heard a clip with Alistair Campbell referring to the Iraq war. It was good but the surprising and best part was the applause from the QT audience.

I can’t believe he self declares as a ‘national treasure’. Another Labour man full of it.
