A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I previously thought the Employment Rights Act is basically a gift to malingers, grifters and vexatious mischief-makers, but it appears the illegals will also benefit.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/e67a1c3af1feeaf0

I was hoping that headline was just speculative, but I see the article cites an example of this actually happening with an illegal immigrant receiving £5k.
I don't know why anyone bothers coming here legally anymore.

What will read later, sounds crazy.

On another note poor King Charles getting drenched and no umbrella to be seen.

Camilla's hair! 😬 I felt for her. I would look like Worzel Gummidge in that weather.

Sam Coates says his Whitehall sources saying that the palace is not happy with Burnham and his big mouth.

People with the skills to qualify for legal entry are probably too bright to want to move to the UK.

I've yet to come cross anyone happy with Burnham - but that could be down to location.

On this it’s spreading to other EU countries too. I didn’t vote leave but re-joining looks less attractive now.

Yes, the article showed this map. Who would want to join now?

True. That cohort are leaving as fast as they can.

Meanwhile 1181 more people (that we know of) have rocked up on dinghies in just the last 3 days. What's the pull I wonder? 🤔

There was a time when I would have said our ridiculous taxpayer largesse is the pull, but as time goes on I'm struggling to stay off the global reset/invasion conspiracy bandwagon.

I know Spanish and polish who have no intention of returning. Spanish friend gas and Aircon engineer, polish friend, hotel manager.

I cannot disagree.

Yeah it makes more sense as time goes by. Its like they deliberately scupper any opportunity to reduce the pull factor without reason.

Yep. The Polish men we used to employ have both gone back. We're still in touch and they say the standard of living is much better in Poland than the UK now.

You're not on TV, haven't seen a haircut, colour, nail file or an ironed outfit since Scargill though. Trust me I've had to have meetings with them.

Checking in! Agree on brexit - remainer but I don’t know that we want to rush back to a political union at this stage. And as Kemi pointed out, we can’t meet the economic criteria either…

BooHissScarySeason · Yesterday 15:32

Don’t you feel that this is what’s wrong with govt by doing whatever is populist? Very often by the time most people believe something it’s no longer true.

Not talking about populism, but in general I tend to think of it being the other way round

By the time the government latches onto an idea, it’s about 20 years out of date. Whether it’s a good idea or a bad one.

BooHissScarySeason · Yesterday 15:46

That too, we don’t have leaders who decide what is right themselves and lead anymore. That’s why we’re in this mess..

We lack politicians who've cut their teeth in the private sector and learnt economics in the real world.

We did vote in Labour though, well enough did, so this is not surprising really.

SapphireCasino · Yesterday 17:02

Btw When I said about politicians latching onto ideas 20 years later, I do mean all of them. I’m not just talking about this government.

I occasionally mention this social thing that I go to with one person in particular who is very loud and annoying about politics.

In an effort to distract from her being annoying, I did recently say “people who voted Labour can’t be surprised that they got Labour” - I was actually trying to steer the conversation away from her hot button nature and move it into the economy. Interestingly, she stopped talking completely….

But there was one man who was genuinely surprised by my comment. He runs a business and he is apparently shocked at the current government approach. I think he was thinking that they would be a bit more Blair. He’s been lucky, he had a couple of resignations and didn’t replace those people. He’s now working crazy hours. He’s not thrilled about it, but he’s got so many concerns about the new employment laws, he’s going to try things this way.
