A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Btw When I said about politicians latching onto ideas 20 years later, I do mean all of them. I’m not just talking about this government.

I know nor was I. I daresay it's the same across the western world.

I occasionally mention this social thing that I go to with one person in particular who is very loud and annoying about politics.

In an effort to distract from her being annoying, I did recently say “people who voted Labour can’t be surprised that they got Labour” - I was actually trying to steer the conversation away from her hot button nature and move it into the economy. Interestingly, she stopped talking completely….

But there was one man who was genuinely surprised by my comment. He runs a business and he is apparently shocked at the current government approach. I think he was thinking that they would be a bit more Blair. He’s been lucky, he had a couple of resignations and didn’t replace those people. He’s now working crazy hours. He’s not thrilled about it, but he’s got so many concerns about the new employment laws, he’s going to try things this way.

I'm glad you spoke out. Hopefully the lefty gobshite will keep more of her opinions to herself from now on. The bloke who runs a business was probably relieved that you did.

Back with my shiny new name...

Germany is worth keeping an eye on at the moment. Do Labour really want to rejoin an EU where such shocking statements are allowed?! 😉

I thought all these riots were caused by the 'far right' (or 'schoolchildren', one or the other...)

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/38c3181e9efe8334

"Violent protests in Germany are the work of leftists and migrants, the country’s interior minister has said.
Demonstrations began peacefully on Saturday afternoon but turned violent in the evening as rioters smashed windows and looted shops in Frankfurt, where the police responded with water cannons.
Violence also erupted in Berlin, Cologne and Hamburg, where demonstrators threw Molotov cocktails, bottles and fireworks at police officers. Large-scale arrests were made in more than eight cities.
Alexander Dobrindt, the interior minister and a member of the ruling conservative Christian Social Union, accused “troublemakers from the immigrant community” of acting alongside Left-wing extremists and other far-Left groups.
Organisers said 160,000 people took part across the country."

Thank you @ArthurFrampton . I watched some of the German rioting videos at the weekend. Their police make the French police look like toy town police. They set about everyone of all ages. One young woman was lamped so hard in the head she went flying backwards.

They're scary.

Anyone old enough to remember Baader Meinhof gang. I was at school but it did filter through into our home I remember. My dad, always politically engaged talked about it. What's happening now brought it to mind.

Ik. It’s particularly so atm. I think it might be the EU unrest and upcoming elections causing extra backlash on here.

Admit I was flabbergasted that the polish president had to turn his plane around because of Tusk staging a coup type thing. He was denied permission to land ‼️‼️ did anyway. Fought his way back into government buildings. All of it on camera.

Do you know what - it was actually a desperate attempt to change the subject. That might sound odd, but it cemented my view that actually when she shouts about right wingers being terrible people, she’s talking about some kind of entrenched racism idea she has.

I don’t really know why she does it. She is a very shouty person.

But faced with somebody making a point related to the economy, she closed down completely. Went to go and sit with some others. I suspect she’s actually not trying to have a political conversation. I don’t know what she’s trying to do.

I have learned some more things about her and I do have a lot more sympathy than I did, but I really wish she would get out of that habit because it genuinely can spoil an evening. If she’s not shouting about that, she’s shouting about menopause or ADHD.

I’m not a fan of shouty people - can you tell? 😂

BTW, I haven’t noticed it being bat shit on here but I think I’m not seeing many political conversations atm so that’s probably why. However, I have noticed that common sense is bizarrely lacking in recent posts. Some of the suggestions people have made when they were trying to be helpful, while they may be well intentioned, they are bizarre.

You're better off not reading some of the recent batshittery. It does make for a more pleasant and sane MN experience.

True. Some of the stuff is what happened level. Ik the successful female leader rn is probably used to and strong enough to ignore all manner of verbal attacks. But sheesh what’s going on with those doing it (rhetorical).
