To ask what food you think is overrated

Pasta! Everyone seems to love it but I think it’s seriously overrated and pretty plain/ boring. Would never order it in a restaurant. What food does everyone love but you think is overrated?

Bacon is the food of the gods and the reason why most people can't become vegetarian.

I'm 90% vegetarian. I've gone back to some meat, but can easily resist bacon!

I love poached eggs though. I make my own eggs in a cup in the microwave which is the quickest and easiest way to get something similar.

I would happily eat a plate of sprouts instead of Christmas dinner. I love them!

Same. Especially when you buy them on the stalk, because they’re most definitely sweeter. Steamed to a second after al dente. But with good homemade gravy, roast potatoes, nut roast, carrots, cranberry sauce, red cabbage… bliss!

You sound like my 15 year old son who has the blandest palate imaginable but would happily eat pasta every day.

You just don’t know how to cook pasta then! Bet your pasta dishes are bland. You probably boil them until it’s all soggy. Your son has no palate because of you really!

"Pasta! Everyone seems to love it"

Pasta's all about the sauce. Of course it's boring on its own.
I love it in restaurants, but they probably do make a lot of money on pasta meals.

I live sourdough bread as well.

I’ve tried pasta with sauce obvs lol I don’t like any of it! Horrible food

I am leaving this thread 🤣 leaving you all to baked beans and marmite.

Turkish Delight. utter shite.

interestedandsol · 18/10/2026 13:12

Eat 15 in a row and you will instantly love them. I did it once when drunk and now I eat them for pleasure!

I wondered how that was going to end when you said "eat 15 in a row "..I mean I love them but I was quite scared when I saw that. 😃

the80sweregreat · 18/10/2026 13:58

I like rana pasta.
Avocados I can take or leave tbh.
liver is the devils own recipe, awful meat.

I was made to eat them as a child by a parent who couldn’t understand why anyone could find them vile - I found slathering them in horseradish was the only way to get them down.

TEA - not interested in any kind of tea - thin, watery and not satisfying. It's COFFEE I love, but getting too much caffeine from it now for my health. Any coffee substitutes recommended?

But with a good sauce you don't even taste the pasta.

the80sweregreat · 18/10/2026 15:50

Pasta is my favorite food , but Dh isn’t keen so it’s not something I cook a lot of.

MyFavouriteGame · 18/10/2026 15:58

I refuse to pay for pasta in a restaurant. I can boil pasta and chuck sauce on at home and not pay £13 for the privilege. Apart from in Italy. Best pasta I’ve ever eaten.

Can anyone overrate sprouts?

They are vile little green balls of nastiness.

My DH and DS like them.

I've tried but they are horrible.

But I think tuna is the worst. Along with baked beans. Yuck yuck and yuck again, and did I say yuck.

Edited

Well his younger brother doesn't have that problem. I think it's the fact that it tastes of nothing at all that appeals to him, same as mashed potatoes, white bread etc. Pasta is simply padding for a meal - whatever sauce you put on it is the reason you're eating it.

the80sweregreat · 18/10/2026 16:28

I like sprouts , but as you age certain foods disagree with you and that’s one of them.

Empress13 · 18/10/2026 16:37

Matcha tastes like earth dreadful stuff and the flavoured matcha you can get is no good for you full of sugar so what’s the point ?

SixTimesALady · 17/10/2026 21:41

I don't think people understand that any bread can be sourdough. 😅 It just uses wild yeast instead of packaged yeast. You can make the softest, fluffiest sourdough or chewy, crusty sourdough, depending on what bread recipe you use...

Agree sourdough not toasted as a sandwich is awful

OrneryWorld · 18/10/2026 17:26

Potatoes.

GintyMcGinty · 18/10/2026 17:27

Overnight oats - just have proper porridge

BashfulClam · 18/10/2026 17:27

Lobster, had it in a restaurant and was jealous of my husbands steak.

Totally agree, the consistency is rotten.

the80sweregreat · 18/10/2026 17:30

I like normal porridge , but that overnight stuff isn’t good.

Decaff. I get mine from PACT, it's really good.
