To ask what food you think is overrated

Pasta! Everyone seems to love it but I think it’s seriously overrated and pretty plain/ boring. Would never order it in a restaurant. What food does everyone love but you think is overrated?

OP posts:

Sushi, just no
Roast
Most cheeses

CountryGirlInTheCity · 17/10/2026 21:37

Smoked salmon…I can’t bear the texture. And if I’m having something smoked for breakfast I want it to be bacon!

I came here to say this! Oysters are THE most overrated food no contest.
Champagne is the most overrated drink.
Both are disgusting— but maybe because they are expensive people pretend they like them to be sophisticated.

Champagne..fizzy vinegar..🤮

RepublicOfPirates · 17/10/2026 21:40

Pizza, it's kids food

SixTimesALady · 17/10/2026 21:41

Sourdough bread. Good for toast but nothing else.

I don't think people understand that any bread can be sourdough. 😅 It just uses wild yeast instead of packaged yeast. You can make the softest, fluffiest sourdough or chewy, crusty sourdough, depending on what bread recipe you use...

MrsMariaReynolds · 17/10/2026 21:41

Yorkshire puddings. The least interesting part of a roast dinner.

WokeUpEarlyWalkedTheDog · 17/10/2026 21:41

McDonalds
Greggs
Any pizza
Sweet Potato
Prosecco
Ice cream
Chocolate
Biscuits
Cake
Chicken wings
Cream
Papaya
Brioche
’pulled’ anything meat
shared plates
Carvery roasts
’minted’ meats
breakfast cereal
pancakes
mince pies
hash browns
ketchup
local to me, Chinese take aways
milkshake

I’ll be back, clearly.

YES!!

Forgot this from me extensive but clearly not exhausted list!

They are a total waste of bland space!

SixTimesALady · 17/10/2026 21:43

I'm going to say mince pies.

ilovemylogburner · 17/10/2026 21:44

I love these threads because they just go to show how different we all are. Champagne for me is the drink of the GODS and, Yorkshire Puddings are life!
I wonder why we all have such very different preferences?…..

Dontevenlookatme · 17/10/2026 21:47

Dubai anything. Overpriced food the colour of Shrek, what are people thinking?

KatyaAdler · 17/10/2026 21:47

Oysters. For obvious reasons.

ToadRage · 17/10/2026 21:48

Curry. Horrible, disgusting, smelly food. Took ages of scrubbing to get the smell and grease out of my kitchen, previous owners were Indian. I cannot fathom why anyone likes curry and all I ever hear when i say I don't like it is 'oh, it's not that hot'. I don't care if it's hot, i don't like the taste.

NewNameW · 17/10/2026 21:49

Steak

Never understood the fuss

Go to Italy for few days, pasta is unreal! I literally could eat pasta every day.

You sound like my 15 year old son who has the blandest palate imaginable but would happily eat pasta every day.

FazeleysRoyale · 17/10/2026 21:57

Truffle: disgusting

Ice cream: I just don’t get it

DH and I make our own bread ( our machine does it) but we still love a bought rye sourdough. We buy them on yellow sticker half price at 6 p.m. and shove ‘em in the freezer. Had one today for sardines on toast. Old school see, none of your smashed avocado here ( I have made that before though )

Letsgonowthen · 17/10/2026 21:17

I make this using sun-dried tomatoes and it's delicious.

I wouldn't just eat them plain as a snack or anything.

Your poor, poor pasta.

Brussels sprouts, whether at Christmas or any other time of year.

Can anyone overrate sprouts?

They are vile little green balls of nastiness.

It's not about the texture, well not for me anyway, it tastes awful and...sour. Give me a bog standard crusty white or granary loaf and I'm happy...or tiger bread

Kickinthenostalgia · 17/10/2026 22:51

Matcha…. Tastes like grass 🤭
avocado… I understand it as guacamole but nowadays people are putting it with everything.
i hate Biscoff… just a generalised weird taste.
salted caramel… why?

Truffle

100%

Nasty, smelly, tastes like old socks.

Sprouts are massively underrated.

Thesummer · 17/10/2026 23:06

Roast dinners. One of the most boring meals ever yet everyone bangs on about them as if it's some amazing sacred magical food. I'll eat one, they're inoffensive, but it's just so dull I get bored halfway through.

Bacon. Don't get it. Especially cold bacon in a BLT (which is an awful combo IMO) or a chicken and bacon sandwich. Bacon added to a nice burger always ruins it too.

Poached eggs. Give me scrambled any day.

All this "hot honey" stuff that's everywhere now. Hot honey on chicken wings etc.

pinkpony88 · 17/10/2026 23:08

Gingerkittykat · 17/10/2026 17:00

Roast potatoes, I can't stand them.

😮

pinkpony88 · 17/10/2026 23:12

I had a Greggs sausage roll for the first time this week. Not impressed 🤢
