A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙☕️

We're gearing up for the Burnham budget. 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

There's a stupid video doing the rounds of Healey and Miliband eating snacks in Bangkok. 🙄

Why is Miliband in Bangkok at a meeting of finance ministers?

Another bacon sandwich moment for Miliband?

He's such a dick.

I don't understand why he's there at all.

Sounds like a bad visual from the description alone 😬

I've been listening to the commentary on this on the radio. The budget is already written so this bank tax is a dead cert. Heard someone say its not a good look for Labour to hit banks simply because they've had a good couple of years. JP Morgan saying they may reconsider putting their European HQ in London.

Its being framed as a tax on banks to pay for reducing energy bills for a certain demographic.

The extra money would help fund a planned package of help for poorer households and businesses with their energy costs over winter.

"Who can we tax in order to pay benefits to others"

John Healey’s bank tax raid would drive up mortgage rates and worsen the cost of living crisis, the City has warned.

Analysts at UBS said banks would pass on the cost of higher taxes to customers, in the form of higher mortgage rates and lower savings rates.
It threatens to undermine Mr Healey’s and Andy Burnham’s vow to give households more “breathing room” in the Budget.

Silly Labour…

Nuthatch26 · 16/10/2026 12:10

Another typical Labour budget incoming. I'm so glad I won't be in the UK for this one. Can't bloody wait to get on that ✈️.

Every generation needs to experience a Labour government to teach them how shite they are. Always the same.

God that photo of Healey and Miliband on a tuk tuk. 🙈

They are always blind to any consequences their actions may bring.

I’m sure their gaslighting on the economy will carry on as unemployment creeps higher than expected and they blame mysterious factors beyond their control…

So will everyone cancel Netflix and pay for other streaming services instead such as paramount, prime, Disney???

It’s a misnomer

It’s really just a charge for having broadband. It will cover all streaming services. basically, if you have an Internet connection, you’ll have to pay for the BBC.

They missed a trick when people started getting the internet / probably too snobbish and complacent to think the quality driven by comment would soon surpass their own dross and bias.

Olly Robbins’ union responds as he’s had a settlement. This I agree with.

On Friday, Dave Penman, the general-secretary of the FDA, said: “This settlement may bring an end to the Judicial Review proceedings, but this whole unprecedented affair has damaged the bond of trust between civil servants and ministers, which is essential to the effective running of Government.
“The scapegoating of Sir Oliver, to mask the misjudgment of the previous prime minister, marked one of the lowest points in the recent history of civil service-ministerial relations, which is quite the feat.

“We urge the government to clarify quickly the issues raised by this affair over ministerial involvement in the vetting process.”

Starmer was pathetic and wrong. Glad he’s gone. I remember him scapegoating OR in the HoC. And the usual response on here.

GasPanic · 16/10/2026 17:28

It's a stupid way of doing it IMO.

A better way would be to have an infrastructure charge, plus maybe some minimal broadcast charge. That could go as a broadband tax and fund the TV infrastructure plus maybe 1 BBC channel that shows stuff like the news and BBC parliament.

Then everything else on the BBC goes to pay on demand like netflix or amazon.

TBF I think they have two issues at the moment. One is that BBC funding is reducing and the other is that although the terrestrial broadcasting is slowly dying there are too many people on it to kill it off completely. I see the government is touting a switch off as early as 2035 atm, but it is still a way away.

Starmer is a disgrace. Speaks volumes that this has been settled before court.
Yes I remember the response on here when Bollard sacked Robbins, trying to save his own slimy skin over Mandelson. Urgh.

I read a few months ago that Robbins wouldn't push for a huge payout out of concern for the cost to taxpayers. He has more decency in his pinky finger than Starmer has in his whole body. I'm glad Sir Olly has been vindicated.

OP posts:
BooHissScarySeason · 16/10/2026 18:07

I bet Burnham was VERY keen to keep that out of court, I hope it was a substantial sum and that Oly Robbins has had several lucrative privets sector offers.

EasternStandard · 16/10/2026 18:09

Yep many were awful on here. So many maligning OR because it was Starmer who was doing the wrongful scapegoating.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 16/10/2026 18:10

Yes, the justification of Starmer by some on MN over the whole sorry business of the fallout from Mandelson was remarkable.

I still can’t quite believe that Starmer survived telling the Commons, when asked directly, that he’d “need to check” whether any other requests for senior diplomatic posts had been made for friends and contacts…and it turned out he’d pressed for Matthew Doyle to be a Head of Mission! Oh, it must have slipped Starmer’s mind. Sure.

Labour: the party that tells us it’s honest, ethical and totally non-sleazy. 🙄

Nuthatch26 · 16/10/2026 18:18

Yep. Remembering Starmer's HoC appearances during that period makes my skin crawl. Vile man.

I shall raise a glass to Sir Olly tonight. 🍷

There have been rumours flying around that National Security Adviser Johnathan Powell was about to resign. (I couldn't verify so didn't post when I heard it). This would be a huge resignation if true.

The DT are now reporting that his wife is accused of supporting Palestine Action. This is linked to the author @justasking111 was posting about a few days ago.
