Is anyone planning on making these for their kid(s)?

If so, what are you putting in them?

I couldn't give less of a shit. Enjoy your salvaged wax crayons.

I will :) I’m sure my tax payer money is funding your B&M trips so you’re very welcome !

Hugathug · 10/10/2026 22:02

But it’s not ‘arts and crafts’ is it? It’s the 172728929 pieces of utter utter fucking useless shit, the 1000 different mugs and bottles (who uses these?) themed fucking snacks and cosmetics (why?) home decor that people use for a week and then bin it.. the list goes on and on. Consumerism on top of consumerism. People trying to fill a void and create ‘content’ for their social media, it’s dystopian. Take ASDA, here’s just a few of their Halloween range items. Who the fuck is buying this?

Disgusting op!. Wanting to spread a little joy and fun and indulge your kids?. You should be ashamed of yourself. Next you'll be telling us you make a fuss of them on their birthday and they get more than an orange at Christmas.

🤣

(Holds hand up) themed Christmas pyjamas for everyone in the house as well...

There should be mandatory IQ testing before people are given a bank card.

How funny that you assume because I choose to add a bit of whimsy to my daughter's life I must be incapable of holding down a job or on benefits. It shows your argument up for exactly what it actually is- classism and snobbery.

Do you understand what ‘whimsy’ is or is it just something you saw on TikTok? Whimsy is literally the opposite of consumerism plastic shite.

maxslice · 10/10/2026 22:13

No. Decorating the house, making costumes, and taking them trick or treating. Seems plenty to me,

What are people putting in their Remembrance Day baskets? I was thinking a make your own poppy, edible medals, a dry ration bag, and a copy of the Treaty of Versailles.

I like you very much!!

Just demonstrates what type of person PP really is. FWIW, I'm educated, well paid, and my IQ falls into the "moderately gifted" range, but whatever makes her feel better when her kids ask to do some Halloween crafts and sees their faces fall when she gets out the recyclable paper and the wax crayons.

Meanwhile, we haven't thrown away one thing that's been bought for an Easter, Christmas Eve or Halloween Basket, it's all been used and enjoyed.

I also bought her a ton of second hand books (Gobbolino the Witch's Cat, The Little Vampire, Araminta Spook) which I'm sure is also an issue considering I could just tell her to read the back of a cereal box instead.

You don't get to decide what makes other people's lives whimsical, but I can tell you for nothing that you're bringing neither whimsy or joy to anyone right now.

And yet people who buy themed stuff are telling you that they put it away and resue - just like Christmas decorations. Pages and pages of bashing what others choose to buy or decorate with under the pretext of environmentalism. Do you not read what other people post? Do you bin all your Christmas decorations every January?

So what if someone likes a pink disco ball pumpkin and gets it out every October?

So many miserable people pretending it's all about the environment.

RaininSummer · 10/10/2026 22:23

Modern parents do seem to like making life harder and more expensive for themselves whilst also raising the bar ever higher to keep up. Kids don't need more boxes of tat.

Babayagahaha · 10/10/2026 22:25

What's in a Good Friday basket ?
Replicas of the crosses? A mini Garden of Gethsemane? Hot cross buns? Easter PJs?!

SomethingFun · 10/10/2026 22:25

You can’t possibly use up all the themed Halloween shite before the Xmas themed shite starts if you’re buying a basketful and how many blankets and eyemasks and lip balms do kids actually need or use up? Especially if you already, shudder, did a back to school basket in September. The shops wouldn’t be full of seasonal themed shite if the majority was good quality and designed to last for years as there’d be no profit to be made on it.

Forgedsnak · 10/10/2026 22:25

I’ve given up on this sort of thing as after the novelty wears off there’s only so much seasonal stuff you can have! But I use the existing stuff and fill it with Halloween snacks. Aldi do some really good ones this year!

We love Halloween and it’s lovely to see so many people embracing it now! It’s an age old tradition after all. Anything that makes the seasons brighter is good for me. I love seeing how excited and happy the children get at this time of year.

PinkCatCushion · 10/10/2026 22:26

Nothing as I’m not keen on the Americanisation of UK culture.

Fortuity · 10/10/2026 22:27

Definitely not.

You don't need to justify yourself just because you've bought some items for your kids to bring them a bit of joy.

It's a bit of a strange notion that things can't be bought for enjoyment and we need to make do with the bare minimum 24/7. No one is saying go out and fill a small room full of crap 🤷🏼‍♀️

OP posts:
Babayagahaha · 10/10/2026 22:29

It's the endless crap though. Pj's and a new cup/blanket in a box every holiday is a waste, based on the thread up to 5-6 times per year.... Why? Birthday and Christmas is enough opportunity for gifts.

Speak for yourself. I just love spending a squillion quid on every Christmas decoration I see in December and then flinging it all joyously in the bin on January 5th. I just love hearing the shattering sound as all the nice baubles I bought smash in the dustbin under the tree I picked out, knowing I'll be buying it all again next year. 😂

And anyone seen wearing Halloween or Christmas pajamas out of season is shot on sight in this house.
