Is anyone planning on making these for their kid(s)?

If so, what are you putting in them?

More over consumption and waste, for what?

Have a pumpkin if you must.

Quite.

I found it kind of fitting that the thread immediately above this on Active was about declutterring. We need to stop buying pointless things.

HeddaGarbled · 10/10/2026 20:09

I’m still struggling with autumn decorating.

A fool and his money …..

FlowerVases · 10/10/2026 20:10

No. Just another marketing scam.

Interested in this thread?

@PeasOff if your dc isn’t having a traditional Halloween experience maybe put some face paint in so they can still play with it?
My DC love Halloween, I’ve never done boo baskets but I’d tape it up with the spooky caution tape!

Alltheusefulitems · 10/10/2026 20:13

We don't do boo boxes but we do all have Halloween themed bedding throughout October!

However if I was doing one @PeasOff it would contain Halloween themed sweets, some crafts, a Halloween themed book, some glow sticks and a witch's hat on a headband for dressing up

Oh for heaven sake… more landfill fodder no doubt

HobgoblinNorFoulFiend · 10/10/2026 20:18

Jesus Christ on a moped! I’m a nana and I have my grandchildren one day a week. I go on Baker Ross and spend more than I should in art and craft activities and on Amazon and in the baking aisle at Tesco. If it’s Halloween some of it is themed. If it’s Easter we go with that even though I’m a completely committed atheist. I’ve never called it a “xxx” box, but it sounds like the same thing. My grandchildren and I have a nice time with no screens. So fucking shoot me!

Dabralor · 10/10/2026 20:19

Going in my Boo Basket is:

👻 zilch
🎃 nothing
💀a big fat helping of fuck all

Happy unhalloween folks!

OriginalSkang · 10/10/2026 20:20

I'm English, so obviously won't be doing boo baskets

I used to do Halloween crafts with my DD when she was younger, but it was just that

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/10/2026 20:26

Puts hand up

dd did one for her bestie last year

was some Halloween pjs - sweets and a cuddly pumpkin plus a craft thing to paint

all loved/used and not tat for landfills

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePleaseBarista · 10/10/2026 20:28

DD15 got hers last weekend on October 1st, we have been doing it since she was too old to go trick or treating.
It had pyjamas, fluffy socks, spooky colouring book, face mask, eye patches, lip mask, shower foam and some sweets.

APlagueOnBothYourHouses · 10/10/2026 20:02

When I was a girl we went out on Halloween to get ‘treats’. It was more fun than someone giving you a Primark blanket and a plush pumpkin.

Where do people put all this stuff? I’ve got a massive house but where do people store plush pumpkins and Halloween blankets the rest of the year?

We store Halloween decorations in the loft, alongside the Xmas decorations. Where do you keep your Xmas decorations?

Franxi · 10/10/2026 20:33

What are people putting in their Remembrance Day baskets? I was thinking a make your own poppy, edible medals, a dry ration bag, and a copy of the Treaty of Versailles.

capitanaamerica · 10/10/2026 20:33

Boo Baskets in the USA are an entirely different thing from what the OP and others have described here. They are baskets (or some other container like a bucket or box) left anonymously on someone's doorstep (or regular pitch or spot, if they're homeless) on Hallowe'en as a way to give useful or just wanted items to someone in need without embarrassing them or making them feel the need to thank you or refuse to accept it, etc. The clue's in the name - the pretence is that a ghost has left the basket when the veil between the worlds is thinnest on Hallowe'en night.

If left for a homeless person they may contain things like nonperishable food that doesn't need to be cooked, blankets, warm articles of clothing, an umbrella, toiletries. If left at a house, maybe mostly food. Someone in my neighbourhood who's notorious for adopting and fostering local stray kittens got one filled with just cat food! It helps if you know the person it's going to and their needs. They've existed for a while but became common post-COVID when the COL rose exponentially, and then even more so when benefits were cut to the bone and huge tariffs caused the prices of food and other basic necessities to skyrocket after January 2024.

Well that sounds like a jolly nice idea, and very thoughtful.

canklesmctacotits · 10/10/2026 20:58

Given we’ve been using the same plastic Halloween bucket for almost 20 years and consider that more than enough plastic shite as it is - no.

KilkennyCats · 10/10/2026 20:00

Very defensive of your boo basket, op. Why so aerated about a unnecessary basket full of crap?

Indeed.

Plus she knows what she's putting in it, she's already got it.

Then why the thread about what to put in it, if you already know or perhaps just wanted to snap that at people who think it's a pile of shite

themoirarosee · 10/10/2026 21:13

I’ve put a blanket, socks & pyjamas, baking kit, some crafts and sweeties.

All things I would’ve bought for them anyway, I don’t understand the negative strong reaction on here? It’s not their money lol 😂

Also in the loft but I haven't got blankets and the like.

Agree!

A couple of years ago I was having a bit of a rough time and one of my friends came to visit and she brought me a little Boo Basket, knowing I’m an autumn/halloween lover. It had some pumpkin spice hot chocolate in it, an autumnal candle, a Halloween themed baking kit and a cute soft pumpkin decoration. I used all of it so none of it was “landfill” or “tat.” It was lovely.

Wasn't asking for ideas - though some of the suggestions have been great!

General chit chat on what people were planning to put in them if they were making them, that's all 🤷🏼‍♀️

What a load of utter SHITE!

I suggest you watch ‘alittlemegh’ on instAgram and see how much TAT ends up laying around
