Is anyone planning on making these for their kid(s)?

If so, what are you putting in them?

I think so 😂

I've got DD some Halloween arts and crafts and stuck it in a trick or treat bucket that she'll be using. Did the same last year and she loved it!

Well that’s all that matters. Unfortunately if you bring up anything that people feel has any connection to American culture … they will chase you with a pitchfork on here.

BansheeOfTheSouth · 10/10/2026 19:04

Why do you want to @PeasOff ? Whatever American social media you have watched to give you the idea, haven't they given you ideas to fill them?

I feel obliged as a person living in America to squash the idea that 'boo baskets' are an American thing.

Or any kind of a thing, actually.

PeasOff · 10/10/2026 19:48

By all means if you're not doing one feel and think they're a pile of shit free not to bother posting on here. Couldn't GAF what people think of them was just literally trying to start a chat thread about them. Jesus wept 🤣

They originated in America, and are widely shared by American influencers every year, as well as some UK ones

Fuckitydoodah · 10/10/2026 19:49

This is getting ridiculous. More tat to end up in landfill.

People feel that everything they dislike must be American.

Thisusernameisalwaysavailable · 10/10/2026 19:50

Absolutely not.

Social Media consumerist crap.

People are allowed to share their opinions on things.

It's chat I suppose. Maybe I should have started a consumerism BS thread instead 🤔

You did start a consumerism BS thread 😂 this is the SM effect, and it's always consumerist crap that's promoted.

Spend money on stuff it's Halloween/Easter/Christmas/any other excuse.

Here's what looks to me like American commentary on the phenomenon.

It originated with people who are paid to promote shite. The idea that this faux tradition is embedded in American culture is nonsense.

You sound nice.

A boo basket. It really is the end of days.

Sandsnake · 10/10/2026 19:57

God, the name reminds me of the Boo Box from Hook. That and Henry being bricked up in the tunnel in Thomas were definitely some of my most traumatising childhood TV moments!

Thirstysue · 10/10/2026 19:58

A what? Is this akin to the nonsence of a Christmas Eve box?

Fuck... you're right... won't post another then 🤣

Tbh I don't do social media apart from here and WhatsApp so haven't seen the other ones out there. Take it they're more extravagant than a poundland trick or treat bucket with a few bits from the works shoved in it 😆

Very defensive of your boo basket, op. Why so aerated about a unnecessary basket full of crap?

I didn’t say it was a tradition embedded in America culture, I said they originated in America, and are widely posted by American influences every year. The people paid to promote this shite are largely American

This is insane - so American - this is just too much

This. Only a matter of time before they’re doing executions baskets, y’know, nice snuggly night in watching firing squads together.

OP isn’t the whole point of Halloween that OTHER PEOPLE give all the treats out?!

APlagueOnBothYourHouses · 10/10/2026 20:02

When I was a girl we went out on Halloween to get ‘treats’. It was more fun than someone giving you a Primark blanket and a plush pumpkin.

Where do people put all this stuff? I’ve got a massive house but where do people store plush pumpkins and Halloween blankets the rest of the year?

RaraRachael · 10/10/2026 20:04

Oh God. More seasonal tat.

PeasOff · 10/10/2026 20:05

Not going into specifics about why I'm giving some extra treats (arts and crafts!). Likely we won't be having the typical trick or treat experience that most will have.
