Is anyone planning on making these for their kid(s)?

If so, what are you putting in them?

Awwww my teen loved these. I've done them intermittently. Her friends birthday is soon and she's done a fab one this year for her.

A large teddy pumpkin as the base, a pumpkin drinks bottle, some little pumpkin shaped bath fizzes, a couple of orange face masks (nice range just got the orange for the colour of them!), some chocs and a tube of lip gloss.

The teens around here do them for each other too. They're super cute.

Sometimes I think people just like a whinge and moan 😂

Not really we just see how much utter shite is pumped out every single ‘holiday’ and it all just ends up shoved in to the earth - If you have children how can you not care about that? I find it insane

Hugathug · 10/10/2026 21:27

How MANY drinking recepticles do people really need? Why the themed cups and bottles and oh my gosh I can’t hack the consumerism levels

Exactly, it would blow their minds to realise I refill the same basket for DD again on December 1st and Good Friday too for Easter 😜.

Yes but refilled with utter plastic shite doesn’t make it okay! Bloody Nora.

Also in the loft but I haven't got blankets and the like.

Ok but presumably if you did have blankets and the like, you'd just store those in the loft too?

No, kids don’t need this. I will do Halloween crafts with the youngest though (oldest not interested anymore) and help sort a Halloween costume. Nothing else is needed

Well crafts or a costume aren't 'needed' either, are they? And while I won't be doing a 'boo box' (I'll actually be doing some craft and costume too) I won't be looking down my nose at people who choose to do other things.

A life of only having or doing what you need in order to live would be pretty dull!

ImmortalNowBabyDoll · 10/10/2026 21:36

I did it the first week of October, complete with a Halloween hunt with a creepy trail to find clues that led to it.

She needed new PJs so I got her some Halloween themed ones (which she'll wear all year) and a new nightie, along with a squishie, a ghost shaped mug, the "companion" teddy that goes with her Halloween costume, a ghost cushion and blanket from Primark, a couple of small craft kits, a packet of sweets, a couple of lipglosses, bath bombs and a water bottle.

I'm not overly bothered what other people think about that. She's a lovely, beautifully mannered little girl and is very grateful for the privileged life I choose to give her. We do Christmas Eve Boxes too and she's said that the Christmas Eve Box is one of her favourite things about Christmas.

What are people putting in their Remembrance Day baskets? I was thinking a make your own poppy, edible medals, a dry ration bag, and a copy of the Treaty of Versailles.

I just don't have the funds to do this as well as my Bonfire Boom basket. It's got a chop your own kindling kit, a Guy Fawkes plushie and lights n sounds firework stickers.

I wouldn’t say chucking a load of stuff from primark in a basket is a ‘priveleged life’ - a real privilege for our children would be to stop polluting the earth and buying plastic made shite

I reckon adults need to treat themselves.

Do you not do arts and crafts with your kids or get them sweets or pyjamas ect?

Arts and crafts- yes paper (recyclable) and wax crayons and junk modelling from the salvage shop, of course. Pyjamas- of course- cotton made (don’t have to be expensive) and non themed (why oh why) so they can wear them year round. Sweets- not really, no.

At least you don't have a basket for each separate occasion eh? 🤪

So... is the issue that they're themed then? Themed pyjamas are worn all year round in this house!

What do you think actually happens to all the themed shit you currently see in b&m / home bargains / primark / the pound shops? Do you think it all gets bought and reused forever? Literally so much of this junk is unsellable and will go straight from the shops and buried in to the earth. I don’t want to partake in even a tiny bit of that cycle.

Disgusting op!. Wanting to spread a little joy and fun and indulge your kids?. You should be ashamed of yourself. Next you'll be telling us you make a fuss of them on their birthday and they get more than an orange at Christmas.

Babayagahaha · 10/10/2026 21:52

themoirarosee · 10/10/2026 21:13

I’ve put a blanket, socks & pyjamas, baking kit, some crafts and sweeties.

All things I would’ve bought for them anyway, I don’t understand the negative strong reaction on here? It’s not their money lol 😂

It's everybody's earth being wasted by over consumption of utter shite like this.

A kid needs one cup and one blanket for most of their childhood.

Baking kits = too lazy/stupid to bake properly.

PJs is fine but you don't need a pair every holiday.

hamnish · 10/10/2026 21:52

I’m starting to feel like a character from Ghosts, but Halloween back in the 80s was apple-bobbing, doing that thing with the apple-peel-over-the-shoulder to foretell future husband’s name, Mum swearing slicing chunks out of her hand trying to carve a turnip (pumpkins still unthinkable exotica) and some mild trick or treating. Costumes: nearly always ghost or cat, never ‘sexy Traitor’. And then we all cycled home on our penny farthings.

greenchalk · 10/10/2026 21:52

My teen kept sending me TikTok videos of these, it was their birthday last week so I made them one as an extra present and they loved it 😊 (it was 15th birthday - included blanket, ghost candle, Halloween socks, ghost sheet face mask, ghostface T-shirt, pumpkin mug, Halloween sweets and biscuits and a ‘boo’ bath bomb)

Not unless people hoard the items!

I can't get het up over themed arts and crafts and things like pyjamas that are used for a year. People can recycle the bits after as long as they're within the scope to do so (plenty of clothes bins where I live for all manner of textiles and H&M even give you a voucher for doing it!).

What's not to understand? New pyjamas are needed and they happened to be themed. Have you never bought themed pyjamas for your kids?
