Supposedly devout Christians slavering over a state sponsored murder. What happened to "thou shalt not kill"?

Good point! I wonder how they can justify it? From a scriptural pov I mean. Love thy neighbour as thyself, etc. It seems hard to make it fit!

May we normalise not sticking our noses into other countries’ judicial processes. We don’t like it when they do it to us.

It’s not about judicial process. It’s about live streaming a killing. I hate to invoke Godwin’s law but should people have left the judicial process that sent so many to death camps alone or was sticking our nose in then ok? Because some things cross a line and the international community should, at the very least, take a view.

I don't really care. My sympathy is with the victims of those on death row. People go on about how unfair it is to put people to death, its inhumane, etc, etc.

What about the poor victims that have been raped, mutilated, tortured and everything in between? Young children and babies who are murdered? Teenagers who are violated and tortured?

Two wrongs dont make a right

"There is no evidence the death penalty is a deterrent....."

This is mainly because we can't count what didn't happen. It may not be a deterrent to other people, but it most certainly is for the original perpertrator.

Edited

Regardless of whether the death penalty is generally a deterrent (although it isn't), is anyone really stupid enough to think that live streaming this man's execution is going to deter further terrorism? This will inevitably radicalise more terrorists- becoming martyrs is a key attraction for them. Barbaric and stupid. Very Trumpian.

IzzyLeng · 09/10/2026 12:31

It’s pretty sick isn’t it? Regardless of whether people are pro death penalty or not it shouldn’t be entertainment. What sickos are going to watch this and get excited about it? Reminds me of ISIS be heading shackled prisoners and broadcasting the videos. We condemned them for that quite rightly.

Yes 1868. That's when we considered it wrong. The US are clearly 158 years behind us.

In 1868 the USA had just come out of a civil war over slavery, some people there still think it as a loss.
I suspect there's a few MAGA supporters are looking forward to watching a disabled black man been shot live on telly.

overnightangel · 09/10/2026 12:34

He killed 13 people and injured 32. Anyone more concerned with the way his correct sentence is carried out than the victims of the crime itself needs their moral compass checked

Or even ‘let he amongst you who is without sin cast the first stone’

OneoftheWeddingPeople · 09/10/2026 12:35

I met an elderly man who worked for the court that gave the last death sentence ever in England. In his view it was very very wrong and I agree. Whatever the person has done the state shouldn’t have the power to murder people.

What? It very clearly was not a deterrent for the original perpetrator, hence them committing the crime despite the death penalty!

You can’t say it’s a deterrent because they’re dead and therefore can’t commit crimes anymore - that isn’t what a deterrent is. Someone who has been executed has not been deterred from committing crime.

When Trump was re-elected I said that there will now be public executions, it feels horrible to be right. I have had some of the best times of my life on holiday in America, my heart hurts for all decent Americans whose country and culture is being taken apart by this monstrous regime

Caniweartheseones · 09/10/2026 12:37

Taken us back to one of the bad bits of the Middle Ages. China calls Trump the “nation builder” because he’s building China. Soon America will fall.

Zimunya · 09/10/2026 12:37

SerendipityJane · 09/10/2026 12:22

And when you kill the wrong person, the real killer is free to carry on.

As Christie did, when Evans was hanged for Chrisites killings.

You're correct, of course. I'm not necessarily a proponent of the death penalty, but it's misguided to say that it isn't a deterrent - it is. Perhaps not the preferred one. And in the case you referred to, prison instead of the death penalty wouldn't have made a difference to future crimes - the real killer was still free.

Mangelwurzelfortea · 09/10/2026 12:37

It's utterly vile.

PetulaGordeno · 09/10/2026 12:38

There is no need to live stream it, that is a disgusting act.
I argue with myself about the death penalty, it’s hard not to.
But streaming it is just encouraging violence.
And from these mad Christian MAGA types? Would they have lived streamed the crucifixion?
Will it be free to watch watch? Pay-per-view? Can we comment as it’s happening? Can they invite sponsors? Will they have a host?
After show?

I would say anyone who thinks it’s fine to livestream an execution for entertainment needs their moral compass checked.

He was sentenced to death and that’s fine (although I do not agree with the death penalty myself). But it should not be some sort of spectacle streamed online or on TV for the masses. It’s disgusting.

Waitingfordoggo · 09/10/2026 12:38

How revolting. America is so backwards and Hegseth is a nutcase.

@MellowSubmarine - indeed, you have caught me in semantics! You're quite correct.

smallgreenandsplitthreeways · 09/10/2026 12:39

So loads of kids will be able to view this, yeh not damaging at all to their mental well-being.
ffs. Execution is wrong on so many levels, but live steaming it? There just aren’t the words to express how much I’m disgusted by the brutality of certain humans.

Hasan has previously announced he awaits his martyrdom. To be honest the spectacle is going to serve his cause, and if it were up to me, he’d rot in Leavenworth. His crime really is horrific

How many will hold up his photo in the streets, his death, martyrdom against the USA. How many others will wish to die in the same infamous way.

How is it a deterrent? It obviously prevents that one individual from committing further crimes but does nothing to reduce crime rates overall.

This thread is about the execution being livestreamed, surely you cannot think that this is an appropriate thing to do.
