This is absolutely barbaric. Just when I thought Pete Hegseth/Trump etc couldn’t sink any lower.

I shall not be tuning in for sure .However I have no qualms about a mass murderer being executed ! 13 people were slain and it was one of the worst atrocities there . Cant lose any sleep about it Im afraid!

sanityisamyth · 09/10/2026 13:51

I’m not against the death penalty in particular situations, but this is sick. All sorts of weirdos will be watching and getting off to seeing the Live Stream.

Could you lose sleep over the idea that publicly executing an Islamic terrorist is inevitably going to radicalise more Islamic terrorists, and inevitably result in many more innocent victims? This man will be seen by many as an inspirational martyr.

Would you choose to watch it? I witnessed an awful tragedy last year and still have flashbacks and a disturbed sleep 18 months later.

Yes probably because I have a morbid curiosity

I doubt that very much.
How is it worse than watching America bomb Iran?

Yes, it does seem to be rather of an own goal on the Trump administration's part. I'm sure the Islamic mass murderer will be happy to have his martyrdom broadcast - it's probably exactly what he wants.

Of course, I also don't think it'll ever happen. Trump is great at making bold claims he doesn't deliver on.

This is, I think, one of the most important posts today.
By doing this Hegseth and Trump are creating a huge amount of publicity for a terrorist and his actions. They are exposing a whole new generation to the atrocities this man carried out. A generation who would otherwise never have heard his name.
This terrorist will be hailed as a martyr. His actions will be praised and no doubt some will try to emulate him (whether they go ahead with the livestream or not).
This debate shouldn't be about the death penalty or whether Nidal Hasan is an evil man. It should be about the actions of Trump etc al and the effect (intended or otherwise) that they are having on the world. They may have intended to use this as a way to try and avoid humiliation at the ballot box (they have already tried bribery and corruption) I imagine the consequences will, in reality, be quite different.

I'm not sure why people keep thinking this is the case. Seeing a stranger die on screen usually isn't gory or dramatic - not compared to what you see in the films. It's shocking and can be upsetting, due to the circumstances of the person's death, but it's not the sort of thing that the average person will dwell on and be traumatised by.

Speak for yourself. I have seen people falling out of WTC (and only seem them from afar, without much details) and I had severe PTSD where I cried for several days and was unable to eat.

Fortuity · 10/10/2026 00:44

It appears that this may well give the defence an argument that the punishment has become unlawful, which will no doubtt mean that the execution ends up being postponed for months or even years. It would be ironic if ultimately Hegseth is seen as having done the man a massive favour.

Well, people do vary in their reactions, but that sounds unusually sensitive. Although I also wouldn't classify 'I cried a lot and couldn't eat for several days' as 'severe PTSD'.

That’s not severe PTSD

Even half-time entertainment and sell advertising rights - nothing is too outrageous in Trumpland

He will be getting cheerleaders next

Lizzieregina · 10/10/2026 04:34

I didn’t read all the posts on this.

First and foremost this public execution is illegal and will very likely be challenged in courts and hopefully prevented. The fact that this killer is Muslim is the reason for the spectacle execution. To fire up the racists.

And many people here talked about how awful America is, but please remember that this travesty of a government was chosen by 77 million adults out of 280 million adults so the vast majority of Americans did not vote for him and his clown show.

We are horrified by what he has done and continues to do and hope that November 3rd will bring the change we need. Maybe we can even get rid of him once and for all.

PTSD or not I still cry when I see the footage.

KatiePricesKnickers · 10/10/2026 08:22

A lot of the guys murdered and wounded by Hasan had PTSD.
Hasan was there to help them, and betrayed them.
I only just found out his parents were Palestinians.

Don't blame everyone for what Americans do.

What about what is currently happening in the UK? Overt racism is rife. We’ve gone back in time.

I agree; the.racisim you read or hear is outstanding! It as if they have been given "permission " to say and do what they want,.

You’re right.

For the first time ever in my life in London a few months ago I was called a racial slur by an old man. Now he looked like some kind of addict, so people may blame it on that but I believe he knew what he was doing and he shut up when we got on the Main Street with lots of people of all races milling about . He had shouted it at me repeatedly while walking down a quieter side street .

The crazy thing was this happened in central London of all places.

I came across many addicts or homeless people before but never get called racist names in London in my entire 35 years of living/visiting there. I believe this old man was emboldened to behave and speak like how he maybe did 50 years ago due to the current climate.

I'll put money on this live streaming not going ahead. I reckon The Deranged Orange Fart is just posturing, which I sincerely hope so.

I heard that the UN had classed it as viewing torture (paraphrasing) . Not that Donald and Pete care about the UN, but hopefully it will go through the supreme court, and stopped.

What I find really difficult to get my head round is the number of people who are actively condoning and enabling Trump. You would think that, out of basic self-respect, Republicans would disown him due to the dreadful damage he is doing to their party, but many actively support him and the worst the others do is simply to keep quiet - why won't they speak out? What about the mjlitary who are being forced to send men out to die on ridiculous disputes like the Straits of Hormuz? If they were prepared to stand together and say "No, of course we're not going to invade Greenland even if that fool orders us to" it would do wonders for their credibility.

And then there are the doctors who knowingly allow totally false reports about his health to be publicised, and the active conspiracy of silence around things like his constant consumption of junk food. I don't know if the incontinence story is true or not, but if it is then someone who going to considerable lengths to keep the purchases of adult pads and arrangements for their disposal very quiet.

I mean, I know we had our own version with Boris, but at least there came a time when even his own side said "Enough" and got rid of him pretty quickly. There really needs to be some sort of similar mechanism in the US.

If I was a betting woman, I’d say he has blackmail on a lot of the higher ups (think Lindsey Graham, now deceased) And he seems to have access to an awful lot of money to finance challengers if people defy him, aka Liz Cheney. And unfortunately most politicians are self serving and are trying to serve their own interests and that of their party, Mitch McConnell, who is far worse than Trump.

I am hoping I’m alive to see him and some of his ilk at The Hague.

Lydiainthedark · 10/10/2026 14:37

If we normalise livestreamed executions it will open a whole new can of worms.

There will be demands for ethnic proportionality in executions. Political factions will eventually turn the spectacle against their enemies. When the dems get in they'll execute Derek Chauvin, PPV, McDonald's execution day discounts. It'll be endless.

TidalSophia · 10/10/2026 14:46

Third Worldism.

The thing is it's not an ordinary public execution. It will be digitally livestreamed.

The whole thing is symptomatic of the 3rd worlding of the West. We have a increasingly vulgar and intellectually impoverished political culture.

We know modernity has f**ked us but we also know that virgin Mary wore hijab and that to "return" will make us not so indistinguishable from Iran.

Ultimately we live in very boring times and larp is all we have left. They're going to roll a man convicted of killing multiple people out in his wheelchair. Will he be sedated? Will he be gagged? Will he cry out for God? Then they'll shoot him.
It's just so...3rd world.

I'm sure there will be plenty of suicidal insane people who want to become famous by being the next guy executed and digitally livestreamed.

Have we learnt nothing from the Clancy trials? People are crazy and public executions will inspire more unhinged people to do unhinged things.
