This is absolutely barbaric. Just when I thought Pete Hegseth/Trump etc couldn’t sink any lower.

Third Worldism.

The thing is it's not an ordinary public execution. It will be digitally livestreamed.

The whole thing is symptomatic of the 3rd worlding of the West. We have a increasingly vulgar and intellectually impoverished political culture.

We know modernity has f**ked us but we also know that virgin Mary wore hijab and that to "return" will make us not so indistinguishable from Iran.

Ultimately we live in very boring times and larp is all we have left. They're going to roll a man convicted of killing multiple people out in his wheelchair. Will he be sedated? Will he be gagged? Will he cry out for God? Then they'll shoot him.
It's just so...3rd world.

I'm sure there will be plenty of suicidal insane people who want to become famous by being the next guy executed and digitally livestreamed.

Have we learnt nothing from the Clancy trials? People are crazy and public executions will inspire more unhinged people to do unhinged things.

Our men have lost the restraint and dignity that once made them so attractive. Women have lost all grace. We're becoming chronically online chimpanzees, inhabiting these bizarrely simultaneous unstable and boring museums and airports that used to be countries.

If we normalise livestreamed executions it will open a whole new can of worms.

There will be demands for ethnic proportionality in executions. Political factions will eventually turn the spectacle against their enemies. When the dems get in they'll execute Derek Chauvin, PPV, McDonald's execution day discounts. It'll be endless.

Quote "When the dems get in they'll execute Derek Chauvin,"

Nope. -

"Chauvin is serving a 22.5-year state sentence for murder and a 21-year federal sentence for violating George Floyd’s civil rights. The sentences are being served concurrently, meaning they overlap. With credit for time served and standard reductions, his projected release date is in 2037."

Public executions were abolished in this country nearly two hundred years ago. Just when you think the USA could not get any more barbaric under the present regime, they manage to surpass themselves yet again. Do they even qualify to be called a civilised nation anymore? The whole thing seems positively mediaeval. Whatever the man has done, he and his family do not deserve this.

Absolutely agree. As far as I know, the man who will be executed is paralysed, which makes it even more horrific to me. I honestly struggle to imagine a scenario where a man in a wheelchair is going to be executed by firing squad, let alone this being live-streamed. I find it sickening.

He should be executed. He murdered 13 people and tried to murder 32 more.
He’s a mass murdering terrorist scumbag, not some poor disabled person.

I don’t agree with capital punishment. It’s been proven not to be a deterrent. And as for live-streaming an execution, it’s barbaric.

To point all of this out does not mean I don’t recognise the absolutely horrific crime committed by the perpetrator.

Even if it's not a deterrent. Just kill them anyway and be done with it

This is what happens when a wannabe dictator gets into power.

Good luck getting him out. He'll probably declare some sort of national emergency that means the elections have to be 'postponed'

I fully expect him to try something extreme. If not cancelling the election, then certainly trying to cheat.

Capital punishment has never been applied fairly in the US. So for that reason alone, it needs to be abolished completely.

Since 1973 at least 203 people who were sentenced to die were later exonerated, and it is conservatively estimated that 4% of people executed were in fact innocent.

By all means lock people up and throw away the key, but executing even one person who didn’t commit the crime is one too many.

I’m sure that’s what they said about all the wrongly executed people too.

Well maybe they need a new law that says only video evidence counts, because many wrongly executed people also “confessed”.

Irrelevant. The death penalty is, quite simply, a relic of much more barbaric times which should have been consigned to history a long time ago. Quite simply, it is wrong.

Fortuity · 10/10/2026 22:32

Military rules of engagement forbid shooting unarmed and helpless people. I wonder how they're planning to square this with any soldiers asked to do the shooting?

See also part of the Arab world where public executions are commonplace ?

You put that much better than I did!

Meowyme · 10/10/2026 22:46

This is a military execution, and in my opinion, for a combination of the worst possible offences in a military context. He was both a doctor murdering 13 unarmed human beings, and a soldier murdering 13 unarmed comrades. I fully agree that he should be executed, but I don't really get the point of the execution being live-streamed. Those who carry out the execution will be soldiers, for whom a big part of the job they do is shooting people. That's what they do, and that's what we pay them to do. There's no glory to be had here for anyone. Interestingly, military execution in the UK was still legal in 1998, but was abolished for citizens in the 1960s.

ImmortalNowBabyDoll · 09/10/2026 00:31

That's really not the point. It's not about the perpetrator, it's about basic respect for human rights.

If only some of the many, many peace loving nations in other parts of the world - that publicly throw homosexuals off buildings /publicly stone women to death for adultery (aka being raped) / publicly hang/ imprison political /religious dissenters on starvation diets that will kill them (if the thirst doesn’t first ) could talk some sense into the US !!!

Interesting, so you think the solution to countries with terrible human rights records is to join in with them?

It isn't. It's totally fine. It's done after intense due process and legal review and appeals. And it's done as humanely as possible

How was it being “humane” that led to terrorist attacks? Explain that.

I am not justifying terrorist attacks but if anything they were inspired by backlash against various western wars /western backing of Israel/Palestinian deaths and imprisonment etc

“Shoot this fucker”

He IS going to be shot afaik, but the issue we are discussing is why they are broadcasting it on tv for people to watch as if it’s entertainment.

Oh I wonder if they’ll broadcast Dylan Roofs execution if he gets one? You know the white supremacist terrorist who gunned down multiple Black people in a church?

datcherygrateful · 11/10/2026 10:10

I am truly disgusted. The USA is no different to the Saudis then, ruled by a minority of entitled religious fundamentalists, self delusion of grandeur and superiority. One is brown and one is white, one in thobes and one in suits. That's it. I can't believe people are supporting this, and our politicians and dancing around this. Disgusting.

Which nations are you actually talking about?
Because throwing gay people off buildings is something ISIS did, and ISIS wasn't a nation. It was an extremist group terrorizing the very populations you're now lumping together.
And yes, there are regimes that persecute women, gay people and political dissidents. But those people are the victims of those regimes, not their representatives. You're taking abuses committed by specific groups and governments, treating them as though entire populations are responsible, and then using that to defend the US government???

How does any of that make sense?
Either human rights apply to everyone, including people who've committed terrible crimes, or they aren't universal rights at all. Bloody hell.
