This is absolutely barbaric. Just when I thought Pete Hegseth/Trump etc couldn’t sink any lower.

Quite apart from the other arguments against capital punishment - it’s not a deterrent; sometimes mistakes are made and innocent people are executed - I find premeditated murder by the state unbelievably sinister and chilling.

I agree with PP who say that quite simply, it is wrong. The live-steaming element just underlines that this is not about punishment or justice, just medieval, barbaric spectacle.

My concern is less about the fact that a criminal will be dead and more about my own sense of morality, and a wider concern about our collective morality, as a society. For me, killing is always wrong, whoever carries it out.

It makes me feel better. I don't know if everyone got this, but the advert I got was for Disney.

My brain went to an imaginary Disney ride / experience based on this.

This is how far the USA seems to have gone, that executions and entertainment are blurring in to each other.

This morning I went onto Threads and, without me clicking on anything, the video of the man being mauled by the tiger started playing. It took me a couple of seconds to realise what it was and click out of it. I absolutely had no interest in watching it.

This is what will happen with the video of the execution. However hard you try to avoid it, you will end up unwittingly being exposed to it.

And? There are thousands of horrible videos out there. This one will be very tame by comparison.

There is something very different between a state doing an execution behind close doors and glorifying it's self by splashing it all over the TV.

It feels much more like the videos of the Taliban executing it's "criminals" than a civilised western country.

Yep. I'm on your side. Should be done in closed doors and that's it.
