This is absolutely barbaric. Just when I thought Pete Hegseth/Trump etc couldn’t sink any lower.

In the first case, I only felt relief.

In the second, it was a shock to see him chatting one minute and dead the next. I thought it was sad for his family, and sad that someone would kills someone for having different opinions/politics, but I didn’t feel impacted personally no. I think he did a lot of harm with his views so although I think he should have been able to have them, I wouldn’t lose sleep over his death.

Dude. It’s one thing not liking someone and being unmoved by reports that they’ve died.

Actually watching someone die by violence in real time and feeling literally nothing suggests you’re either a sociopath, or so damaged by trauma that you have become dead inside and totally desensitised to violence.

Either way, there is help available. It’s not healthy to be totally unbothered by watching people kill themselves or be murdered / executed / assassinated.

This is a little hilarious. 'Dead inside' because you're not bothered by a video clip of someone being shot is extremely over the top. You might as well say people are 'dead inside' because they choose to watch gory, awful horror films with hyper-realistic injuries, suffering, and deaths.

Anyway, why would you want people to feel traumatised and personally impacted by watching a stranger die? That seems a little counterproductive, and not particularly healthy.

If someone is empathetic and sensitive towards the people and animals they come into contact with on a daily basis, why would it be helpful for them to be deeply disturbed if/when they see a stranger die by violence?

I would think you are either lacking in major empathy from birth, have watched too much violence on screen or been subject to too much rl trauma. Hope you are OK.

I remember seeing Saddams Hussains execution on the TV and it was awful.

The US leadership is really losing its humanity.

I'm not surprised. In fact it feels like an inevitable development. And millions will watch and enjoy it.

It’s like we’ve regressed as a planet. This is hideous.

Don't blame everyone for what Americans do.

And the adverts…don’t forget those

This execution was brought to you by the great taste of Pepsi!

The US is not a civilised country and their current administration has fascist tendencies. We should not be surprised by anything that we hear.

But the idea of turning state-sanctioned killing into a form of livestreamed entertainment is sickening.

This.

People in more civilised countries need to stop dealing with the USA - stop holidaying there, stop buying their cultural and media output, stop buying their products. Let them know their behaviour is unacceptable. It's a tough ask as they have made themselves so dominant in the cultural hegemony but we can change that.

Thanks for your faux concern. 😂 My life is good. I feel sad when my loved ones are upset, ill or have died so have normal empathy levels. I don’t waste my time being upset over people dying/being killed who have done so much harm.

It’s not a problem to not feel upset that a man who killed multiple people is going to be killed. I think it would possibly be better if he was just put in prison for life as so many are against the death penalty, but it’s just not something I’d get upset about either way when he has done what he has.

The problem is turning it into entertainment. The problem is the millions who will tune in and enjoy the spectacle. I am disturbed at the thought that I am probably surrounded by people who would actively enjoy watching a fellow human being die violently.

Franjipanl8r · 09/10/2026 04:16

Any piece of news like this I think of the look on my children’s faces if they found out about it. The sad crushed look as they grow up and realise what humans are capable of doing to each other.

MakeThatMakeSense · 09/10/2026 04:36

What? Firing squad? Is this real?
I haven't really watched the news for ages. I didn't think things like firing squads happened in America?? Nevermind broadcasted.
This makes me really never want to watch the news, best to stay in my own little bubble of ignorance 😕 stuff like this gives me anxiety

BoreOfWhabylon · 09/10/2026 04:39

Not sure if it's been mentioned on the thread but the man is in a wheelchair due to having been shot during his capture.

I can't believe they are planning to livestream his execution. Irrespective of people's views on the death penalty the optics will be just dreadful and will guarantee him instant martyr status.

How can they be so stupid?

They'd probably put in a slight delay and beep out any swearing, though.

To Be honest, the swearing would be the least of my objections to a live streamed execution, @PickAChew - even with PG language, you’re still watching someone be killed.

DanceInSlowMotion · 09/10/2026 04:54

I really can’t give much headspace or concern for this man. He injured and killed a lot of people. I don’t think of him as a fellow human, as someone called him further up the thread.

I don’t think I’d bother to watch it but I’ve seen other executions and not been affected when the person has committed terrible crimes. I have empathy for normal, good people and animals so it’s nothing to do with being devoid of empathy.

If he had hurt or killed someone I loved, I would want him dead. I think that’s quite normal, and if you do this kind of thing in the US, you know you may be killed. Now you also know you might be live streamed.

They said they felt relief in one case and shocked and sad for the family in the other. That’s not nothing. There are a lot of grief thief’s on this site though who claim to cry for months for someone they don’t know, and now ones who feel sorry for Saddam Hussain. Listen to yourselves.

Watching someone BAD die and not feeling very affected doesn’t make you a sociopath or dead inside etc. If you watched that happen to someone good and innocent and it didn’t affect you, then yes, but not someone who has committed terrible crimes.

It’s like a competition over who can be the most empathetic to the worst ever people on here. Weird.

aurynne · 09/10/2026 05:10

History repeating itself. Northing new under the sun. I wonder whether Trump and Hegseth will preside over it wearing a gown and laurels over their heads.

Those who think this is ok …..what about children that might see it ???
You can have all the disclaimers you want but you will have parents that might think it’s fine or kids who will access it when they hear about it !!!

Utterly barbaric !

It's only one poster, who writes in a way suggesting complete lack of insight or indeed any willingness to think things through (to put it mildly), they've just posted multiple times.

Will they have a superbowl style ‘half time’ too!? 😳

Personally I think this is just a PR stunt. It takes 25-30 years before a death row inmate exhausts all their appeals and I imagine the lawyers will have a field day with this one under the ‘cruel and unusual punishment’ prohibition in the Constitution. I doubt it will ever happen (thankfully!).

Oh now two, my mistake.

I remember when a primary aged child at a school I was working at had been shown (by an older cousin) a YouTube video of a beheading in Afghanistan - he was not fine, and remained not fine.

Wordsmithery · 09/10/2026 05:51

It's repulsive.
Mass murderer this time, but what next? I see a dystopian world where the crowds are watching the execution of a criminal with learning difficulties, and baying for blood.
How anyone can be comfortable with any of this is completely beyond me.
The way we treat our criminals is one measure of civilised society. Trump has failed miserably, yet again.

MrsPottsMumofChip · 09/10/2026 06:11

I have no words...this is revolting.
