We all know MN hates the word 'moist' and the term 'picky bits' but what other words or phrases do you dislike?

The word flesh gives me the creeps.
<involuntary shudder>

Luxe
The phrase 'speaks to' in a certain context that I can't explain or give an example of but hopefully you'll know what I mean!
The posts starting 'gently' or 'kindly' seem to have dropped off a bit, thankfully.

JustWalnut · 06/10/2026 01:11

Poorly and bore off. They're just so twee and, well English-sounding to my Scottish ears. Don't know anyone who would say either of them (thankfully!).

Friendlygingercat · 06/10/2026 01:15

Gives me the ick (Is this even English? What is an ick?)
Suck it up
I'm in bits
Wind your neck in
Minging

Calling a baby "baby". Rather than the baby or my baby. Baby has a bath at 7pm. Annoying.

A trouser.

"Going in with" an eyeshadow

I agree 100% with the baby thing, I find it so annoying and it just makes my toes curl.

I also hate “meal” but have learned to tolerate it bc it’s so commonly said. “We’re going out for X’s birthday meal” etc, so it’s not a strong hatred these days.

I loathe “it’s giving…” completely unnecessary and silly internet speak. I remember on The Traitors one year, someone walked into the library and said “it’s giving reading”. What?! What on earth are you even trying to say?

maxslice · 06/10/2026 02:00

“My truth”
“It is what it is.” What else would it be?
”exact same”
”fam”
”scaling” a business
Calling a request an “ask”
Everything‘a a damn “journey” these days. A weight loss journey, a hair journey, a knitting journey…

Boreded · 06/10/2026 02:00

Gently or kindly, followed by something you either didn’t need to say was kind, or that is just rude.

that sounds like a you problem

lemmein · 06/10/2026 02:28

‘My bad’

DIE 😐

SallyCinnamon38 · 06/10/2026 03:00

I know someone who uses the incorrect ‘there/their/they’re’ and ‘you’re and your’ and it grates on me, especially so when using both incorrectly in the same sentence.

Cannot bear ‘picky bits’.

DBSFstupid · 06/10/2026 03:10

Can't stand:
Baby. ( it's the baby)
wanna
My love (when talking to someone you've never met before in a professional capacity)
Hun
Making memories
caught feelings (wtf?)
Reach out (oh fuck off)
Edited as I forget the most hideous.... 'Gives me the ICK'

Sofflespop · 06/10/2026 03:22

choccies
hot choccie

(Even worse when seen in context as advice to woman in desperate coercive situation)

housemouse11 · 06/10/2026 03:47

I love this for you

magikarpediem · 06/10/2026 03:54

Glad to see people agreeing with ‘meal’. Even worse for me if you add nutritious, feels so sanctimonious to me.

in a similar vein to ‘plenty of’, lashings. Bread with lashings of butter? No.

Lathemistress · 06/10/2026 06:51

I hate it when I hear 'can I get' when ordering something especially when its not followed by 'please'
also 'a bite to eat'

DemonsandMosquitoes · 06/10/2026 07:48

Guys
Boob monster
To the moon and back

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 06/10/2026 07:49

Pamper session.
Hubby
Hubs
Hubster

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 06/10/2026 07:53

Lip (as in 'a red lip') Ditto trouser (as in 'a black trouser')
'Love the bones of'
Traybake
Pan fried (what else do you bloody fry in??)
Hand cooked (physically impossible unless your hands are made of tungsten)

Myblueclematis · 06/10/2026 07:53

Nailed it
You do you
Ducks in a row

The word supper, I only know of one person who ever used it regularly and he was a tit.

Westfacing · 06/10/2026 07:59

Dippy eggs
Veggies
Hidden veggies
Comfy

Yes! Bite to eat! It's absolutely appalling. Forgot I hated that one.

TBF supper is used by me and everyone I know. 😬. Oh dear...

Shinyandnew1 · 06/10/2026 08:13

Moist
chafe
‘friends of life’ (Strictly!)

Laska2Meryls · 06/10/2026 08:20

Definitely You do You . It feels like someone one saying fuck off and don't bother me, I'm not at all interested.

TeapotClub · 06/10/2026 08:23

Nice. A nice meal, a nice bottle of wine, a nice walk.
It’s so unnecessary.

Posh, especially if it’s posh chocs.

When cooks and chefs say “Go in with..”

Starting a sentence with I mean when there’s no need to.

A glass of fizz.

Pineneedlesincarpet · 06/10/2026 08:24

So another thing I can't stand is starting a sentence with "So". It's rife. And it's wrong.
