You know the ones. You see their username and think, excellent, they’re here.

Who are your Mumsnet favourites? No smooching required, just appreciation. 😏

There are quite a few posters whose comments I enjoy reading, even if we don’t always agree. For example, there are some who I’m in complete agreement with in FWR but I disagree with on the politics board.

I’m surprised so many PP are saying they don’t notice names! I can’t say that I clock them all but I always notice names that are familiar as I read through a thread. Sometimes it’s because I usually like how the poster discusses things and/or their views but sometimes it’s because they’re regularly a bit of a nobhead. Names stick with me for both good and bad reasons!

I think if you split your times across different boards you might not get the same sense of familiarity. When I was in the midst of renovations/buying I spent a lot of time on Property but I only wander over there occasionally these days (despite having lots of renovations still to do!) Some posters who were prolific on Property often appeared rarely outside that board.

I liked AnyFucker and Worra (??? Liberty? May be misremembering)

the first thread I really got in to about 15 years ago was chocorasin (sp? ) a young mother whose partner had just abandoned her and was rebuilding her life - I hope she is still doing well

Yeah... Where is Worraliberty? I kind of miss her. I was off MN for a while...

Xenia! She was so entertaining with her " I went back to work 30 minutes after giving birth" and " I closed a deal for my client while watching my son win a race at Sports Day". 😀

Didn't she have twins breastfed them both at work ?

keepswimming38 · 03/10/2026 05:11

I just assumed no one keeps their name long term!

I know the RL identitities of at least 4 of them, and no, they very much do not struggle socially. In fact, I think there are far more socially anxious people on here now. Have you not seen the many threads beginning " Does anyone not have any friends and like it that way?".

I am not a deranged stalker. People were much less careful about hiding their identities back then.

I don't like the concept of MN royalty and I don't miss the fawning, but I do miss MN circa 2006.

Someone who spends all day everyday on Mumsnet as this “royalty” used to do - is unlikely to have much of a thriving RL.

And when you say you “know them” - ever actually met them?

Yes, met a couple. Won't say who. They are quite normal I don't think they spent all day everyday on MN. They have jobs!

These days the world has changed, and the MN motto now is " I never answer my door" or ' My husband is my best and only friend". 🙄
Prefer MN royalty to the ' My husband is my best friend' posters tbh.

So when it comes down to it, you don’t know this “royalty” ( 🤢) . You say you met a couple.

My point - they spent their lives on Mumsnet. That doesn’t indicate a remotely happy and thriving RL

This thread hasn't been a smoke up posters arses at all.

Not sure if you're being sarcy or not....?

This is exactly what it's been!

No. I am not being sarcastic. You maybe haven't seen the ones that have been spoke up arse fest.

I was just trying to remember whether she was the one that had the raven, but I think maybe that was SarahStratton?

I remember stories too, the poster who was a widow and then met somebody new and we all cheered along from the sidelines.

And the very lovely poster who fostered babies, including those who were born addicted. Really beautiful threads, actually, I’m worried she might’ve been one of the posters who passed away, but she was incredible.

That was Somerville who remarried and the lady who fostered the poorly baby did die. Earth mother in her name I think.

MamaG was fun.

PixelatedLunchbox · 03/10/2026 07:37

ilovesooty · 02/10/2026 19:47

There are a few posters I rather like but I don't want to elaborate. Popularity threads feel a bit uncomfortable and don't tend to go well.

I agree. It’s all a bit bitchy cliquey.

pinkdelight · 03/10/2026 07:41

shout out for the legends on the education threads like panelchair and prh47bridge who’ve been giving helpful advice for what must be decades now. Likewise pigletjohn on plumbing. Sure there’ll be experts in other fields on here whose contributions would be missed.

for the broader chat stuff, I agree it’s better now there’s no mn royalty. I notice some names still here over the years, lauriefairycake is one example, but I don’t associate them with a specific angle that can take over like some of those past ones did. Long live the mn republic!

I know precisely who you mean. I never engage with threads she’s on anymore.

Incredibly unpleasant if you dare to disagree with her opinion. Usually has a merry band of muppets backing her up.

Edit: more positively, I do a lot of lurking on Doghouse. And there are some incredibly knowledgable posters there who, whilst not the best communicators as they can be a bit blunt, are never wrong in my experience. I’ve learnt a lot from reading their advice to other posters about puppy raising and picking the right breed and breeder.

GobbolinoAndSootica · 03/10/2026 08:04

Is it a thing now to know posters? Unless you regularly post in a specialist thread.

There are no posters I'd miss. I just don't remember usernames. Though i might recognise a username when people have written them on this, that's not the same thing because the ones people are saying no longer post, I hadn't noticed they were no longer posting.

On a site this big, that has posters from a wide area to have your username recognised you need to either post an extreme amount and frequently and for a long time, or be exceptionally unpleasant often. Not something I'd aspire to.

I used to post on an Irish parenting site (gone now). With Ireland being a smaller place, the chances of knowing a poster in real life where high. You also couldn't name change. Posters who were remembered on there were, for the best part, remembered due to being incredibly unpleasant.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/10/2026 08:22

@GobbolinoAndSootica- I think it’s mostly if you spend time on particular boards other than AIBU and Chat. There’s a few posters I got to ‘know’ over the years because they had kids the same age - e.g. there was a long running thread series which started on the HE board when they were doing A levels and continued through uni and (intermittently) a bit beyond as some were doing med or further studies, obviously with people dropping out along the way. So I know that a few years ago Xenia’s twins were doing their solicitors training.

Sorry, I'm not being funny I'm just a bit confuddled! 😆

Be careful with those stones, that's a mighty fragile house.

That sounds like a riddle….
I’ve not been on the Gardening board much lately, I was gutted when MereDintOfPandiculation decided to leave. She was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful.

Oh. I did wonder. That poster was so helpful on gardening all the time, then I went away on holiday and wasn't on MN for a few weeks. Got back, and after a while noticed there was no MereDint. What happened - was it a row with someone about plant apps?!

KitschIntoKitchen · 03/10/2026 09:07

Not so many, these days, because of all of the name changing. But, in the spirit of the thread, here are my favourites.

Youbadbadkitty (not seen for a long time) and GloiraSmud. Weather
Floisme. Style
Lucysman. What are we doing today.
Rainbowzebra warrior. Nigel slater and Christmas boards.
There are a couple of decent posters on the politics boards, who seen level headed and not up for a fight.
And of course, there are the posters whose names I see and instantly switch off!
