Christa Pike -where does she stand legally?

Just this really. Christ a is obviously being giving life saving treatment at hospital but where does she now stand legally. I suppose she probably has irreversible brain damage so will this not allow a second execution to take place? Is this a cruel and unusual punishment?

I wonder how much life saving treatment is given and what the thoughts of the medical staff are? They are obviously trying to save a women for what reason?

The state has suspended executions for a year so if she does survive then she gets a bit more time?

Medical staff try to save lives. They don't need another reason. Who in their right mind would want to kill someone?

OonaStubbs · 01/10/2026 07:48

They need to stop using the lethal injection. Use the guillotine or firing squad.

The DP is barbaric. I judge any country still using it. This woman was raped and abused from age 2, her brain was not matured and likely damaged as a result of her childhood, when she committed this appalling murder. She needed LWOP as she would likely never be safe in society.

The State imposed the DP on a brain damaged 18yr old (at time of offence) girl. That’s just as barbaric as the crime she committed. Let that sit with you for a bit and think about it. I’ve no doubt the more brutal of you don’t care. I do though and this is the ultimate in “two wrongs don’t make a right”.

IF she survives it’s likely she will have a brain even more damaged. Colleen Slemmer’s Mum doesn’t see justice, What a mess and it could have been avoided but parts of America are just beyond redemption.

Absolutely nails it.

Or just... stop doing it at all and stick to life imprisonment.

You may feel differently if someone murdered your family member.

Not necessarily. I survived a murder attempt and am vehemently opposed to the death penalty.

This is a woman who was raped and abused from the age of 2. I have empathy for her.

maddiemookins16mum · 01/10/2026 07:52

The whole situation is dreadful, what a country!

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 01/10/2026 07:52

Clarefromwork · 01/10/2026 07:42

We all feel differently about this but we are talking about someone who admitted to the murder and carried a piece of the victims skull around with her - I would think my feelings towards a family member who is capable of doing this would change.

Somebody who lured their victim with a promise of becoming friends (after some sort of personal conflict) to a secluded location, tortured her, murdered her and kept a piece of her skull as a trophy.

someone who was convicted a second time - this time of attempted first degree murder. Where she attempted to strangle a fellow inmate with a shoe lace…

Is state sanctioned murder abhorrent? Yes.

should convicted murderers be given the chance to “achieve” this kind of notoriety due the countless appeals, execution stays etc commonly associated with the death sentence in the US? Absolutely not imo.

but my main sympathy still lies with the young woman who was tortured and had her skull smashed to pieces. And her family. Not with the perpetrators.

This fails to mention her second victim and second conviction (a conviction for attempted first degree murder).

she (with the help of an accomplice) attempted to strangle a fellow inmate with a shoe lace.

Yes. I saw that in another article.

WildFatball · 01/10/2026 07:55

I clicked on the title thinking it was a rather fun variation of the exclamation'Christ alive'

Can't find anything to confirm she was raped at 2. Keep reading it in here but wiki says 11.

Equally horrific of course - but let's aim to keep facts straight.

I think they should just get on with it and execute as quickly as possible. The girl she tortured, carved symbols into while still alive, and who's skull she smashed in and carried a piece of in her pocket afterwards is still dead. And will stay dead. No reprieve for her. No reprieve for her family. No reprieve for her murderer.

It says in the guardian article she was orally raped by her grandmothers boyfriend.

What a miserable life of endless suffering.

Dignitas are not executing people, they are not strapped to a trolley and killed by fuck knows who while still conscious. Its done by qualified doctors, including anaesthetists, and its a process rather than an act.

I watched a documentary about this and my understanding is that its not like going for general anaesthetic. The patient has to take the drugs themselves. They consent formally on camera and then are handed the drug in a vial/cup to swallow. They have to do it this way otherwise it would be considered murder.

For execution the individual is given drugs without their consent and against their wishes (hence the need to strap them down).

Grumblegrumblegrumble · 01/10/2026 07:57

Gateappreciation · 01/10/2026 07:23

I wonder if this will have any implications for places like Dignitas, who I presume use similar drugs?

No, because those drugs are in date so the strength is known as they prescribed and given under medical care.

It wasn't just her who murder the girl. She had two accomplices, one who did as much as her but was 17yrs so got life without parole. She was only a bit older and got the death penalty. The third person testified against the other two and was set free. Doesn't feel consistent.

Clarefromwork · 01/10/2026 07:22

Anyone would, but the point is that people's automatic revenge mechanisms can't dictate the law. When the state kills in cold blood, it brings itself down below the level of the murderer. This woman has served much of her punishment by spending over 30 years in prison, and now the state has maimed her. That is way more than sufficient punishment.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 01/10/2026 08:01

Timothy Evans and Derek Bentley.
Two reasons the death penalty should never come back to the UK.

Or perhaps those in favour of the death penalty here just regard those two as 'collateral damage'? I'm sure what their families thought wasn't important...

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 01/10/2026 08:01

What a fuck up. The death penalty is barbaric. The US is not a civilised country.

It most definitely is not a civilised country. It is ironic how the Americans call out other countries for having the death penalty yet they clearly also do.

The trouble is, when you put someone on Death Row, they have nothing to lose, and that's why further offences happen. Another consequence of a totally fucked-up system.

The state should be utterly ashamed. She should be released now.

Why? Her partner in crime is still inside denied release she murdered an innocent woman over a boy fgs and killed or at least tried to kill several others while in prison she doesn't get to go free because the state failed to kill her first time

You need to do more research if you can't find anything explaining what happened to her aged 2.

Wiki isn't a reliable source of information.
