Christa Pike -where does she stand legally?

Just this really. Christ a is obviously being giving life saving treatment at hospital but where does she now stand legally. I suppose she probably has irreversible brain damage so will this not allow a second execution to take place? Is this a cruel and unusual punishment?

I would expect she will have a brain injury if she survives so may not ever be released or put back in prison.

Probably right.

You’re absolutely correct , what she did was barbaric and appalling and it is shocking but equally what has now happened to her is barbaric appalling and shocking. I think it’s justifiable to find what she did as horrific as what has now been done to her.

Not equally. She’s where she is because she killed a girl. I will save my sympathy for the victims family.

I just can’t look at both these situations and think anything other than that she was awful for killing that poor girl it was horrific and also that it is awful the US government have tried to kill her also in a horrific way. If we believe killing is wrong then it’s wrong on all levels.

Are they going to wheel in a women in a brain dead state back into an execution chamber in a year and get the family back to witness them finish the job? I think bot.

Pp probably right that she may die in hospital but it has put the medical team involved in providing life saving care in a horrible position.

Trump will probably sign some kind of executive order to have her life support switched off

The state should be utterly ashamed. She should be released now.

If she comes through this in one piece I'm not sure she should be released. I don't believe she wouldn't kill again whatever she says. She tried to kill a fellow inmate apparently.
What she did to her victim was utterly barbaric. But with the recent stay of execution, the uncertainty of which must have been agonising for her, and now this, I feel like she has been punished enough and her sentence should be commuted to life WITHOUT parole, like her accomplice. I'm
sure Colleen's mum would not agree. Maybe I wouldn't either if it were my child. But I feel like killing her now would not be justice but revenge.

Namechange546 · 01/10/2026 07:10

I read that prisoners have to be mentally competent to understand that they are being executed and why. If she has significant brain damage from the failed execution, the may not be legally allowed to try again.

Mumdiva99 · 01/10/2026 07:12

This is one of the most messed up things I have ever read. Killing anyone is inhumane. Allowing this situation to occur is beyond my understanding. There are no winners in this situation.

Channellingsophistication · 01/10/2026 07:12

It's a horrible situation and she should be held accountable for what she did to that poor girl.

It's a shame that no one was accountable for what was done to her. Continually raped and abused throughout her childhood. I think she was even raped before she started school.

I don't think there was a resus team on hand strangely enough.....it's a mess and I don't know how this will knock on through the US legal landscape.

Well to be fair, I’d assume resuscitation is not a commonly needed thing in an execution.

Likely. Life long care and a lot of questions.

Whatever happened to a firing squad or hanging?

twistytwin · 01/10/2026 07:14

The whole thing is so grotesque. There’s been a long running problem with acquiring the right drugs for executions, and properly qualified medics to administer them - unsurprisingly medical professionals aren’t keen to be involved in executions and pharmaceutical companies aren’t keen to provide the drugs for them. How America can profess to be a civilised country when it does this is beyond me.

I think this is supposed to be more humane.

Could be hanging is back in the US of they can't get to the bottom of it?

I guess anything is possible but that most certainly went wrong very very often.

I read yesterday that she was offered a plea bargain for life without parole if she pled guilty. Her inexperienced lawyer advised not taking it because he didn’t believe they would impose the death penalty on a woman, so she turned it down, and ended up on death row. So failed by her lawyer too. I don’t have any sympathy for her btw, I just don’t think the death penalty is ever acceptable in any circumstances.

I wonder how much life saving treatment is given and what the thoughts of the medical staff are? They are obviously trying to save a women for what reason?

The state has suspended executions for a year so if she does survive then she gets a bit more time?

A bit more time to be a vegetable?

I have sympathy for her. I don't think the murder was good, obviously, but she was 18 and had been raped from two and had undiagnosed bipolar at the time. Now this. I can't get behind capital punishment.
