Christa Pike -where does she stand legally?

Just this really. Christ a is obviously being giving life saving treatment at hospital but where does she now stand legally. I suppose she probably has irreversible brain damage so will this not allow a second execution to take place? Is this a cruel and unusual punishment?

Exactly...

Third person was the lookout she could possibly be telling the truth that she was told they were going to rough her up not actually kill her

PoorPhaedra · 01/10/2026 08:10

I’m against the death penalty but don’t understand why they don’t just use whatever is given to patients who have assisted dying? Or just a massive dose of fentanyl or morphine?

honeylulu · 01/10/2026 08:11

Apparently this was the second failed execution in Tennessee this year. If that is right then the situation is even more of a mess.

The man whose execution failed is still alive and was given a one year reprieve. Not sure what happens after that.

I wonder how much life saving treatment is given and what the thoughts of the medical staff are? They are obviously trying to save a women for what reason?

The state has suspended executions for a year so if she does survive then she gets a bit more time?

I’m pretty sure that medical personnel don’t make a value judgement on the life they are trying to save.
Do you think they might stop for a fag break if they don’t like their politics or skin colour?

You’re absolutely correct , what she did was barbaric and appalling and it is shocking but equally what has now happened to her is barbaric appalling and shocking. I think it’s justifiable to find what she did as horrific as what has now been done to her.

This is what I find chilling about state sanctioned murder like this.

I disagree completely under any circumstances. And in this womans case she was a teenager when she committed the murder and she was deeply traumatised from CSA.

Now I know most victims of abuse don’t go and murder their classmate but I do think this contributed to her state of mind and the clear brutality she inflicted upon the victim.

They need to stop using the lethal injection. Use the guillotine or firing squad.

Equally horrific and abhorrent

Pharmaceutical companies won’t supply the drugs, for ethical reasons. They’re relying on often old and out of date drugs

Guillotine! 😮

I think that would be my preferred method if it was me! Instant and I imagine pretty hard to botch.

The DP is barbaric. I judge any country still using it. This woman was raped and abused from age 2, her brain was not matured and likely damaged as a result of her childhood, when she committed this appalling murder. She needed LWOP as she would likely never be safe in society.

The State imposed the DP on a brain damaged 18yr old (at time of offence) girl. That’s just as barbaric as the crime she committed. Let that sit with you for a bit and think about it. I’ve no doubt the more brutal of you don’t care. I do though and this is the ultimate in “two wrongs don’t make a right”.

IF she survives it’s likely she will have a brain even more damaged. Colleen Slemmer’s Mum doesn’t see justice, What a mess and it could have been avoided but parts of America are just beyond redemption.

Well said.

Can someone explain to me like Im five why they are giving her life saving treatment? I dont agree with execution at all but I also can’t understand why they are now trying to save her?

Because the US Constitution (and most jurisdictions in the world) expressly forbids cruel or unusual punishments.
Having someone thrash around in agony on a hospital trolley while coughing up blood for a few hours is probably more than most onlookers could stand.

Personally feel like executions should focus on the serial pedo rapists that can’t be cured if anyone but hey ho.

Or a woman murdering and carrying around the victims skull.
Shit how can anyobe have compassion raped or not shes a fn murderer.
Hope she suffers.

I wonder if this will have any implications for places like Dignitas, who I presume use similar drugs?

Dignitas obtain their drugs through legal and officially-approved means.
Drug companies will not supply their medicines to US States for the purpose of killing people, so the drugs are either very out of date or obtained through a grey market of shady importers.

Bitsostuff · 01/10/2026 07:34

An abusive childhood is really common amongst criminals, especially those who commit heinous offences. It doesn't usually mitigate sentencing, why should it in this case?

Actually being sexually abused and raped is treated as a mitigating factor in this country.

This poor woman had absolutely no chance of being 'normal'.

doglikescheeseontoast · 01/10/2026 08:20

This is the second time that particular doctor has failed to administer the lethal injection successfully, the first time was for convicted murderer Tony Carruthers. Following that, Pike requested death by hanging as she believed that a botched hanging would be preferable to a botched attempt by the lethal injection.

Surely now any case for capital punishment goes out the window. What has happened is beyond horrific.

It be interesting to see who is gonna foot the medical bill Once the media outrage has died.

You may feel differently if someone murdered your family member.

Objectivley i dont agree with the death penalty
But yes if it was my child that had been murdered i dont know how i would feel
I would probably want to kill the murderer myself.

The state pays prisoners’ medical costs.

Just as animals are peacefully put to sleep. Qualified professionals and the proper drugs are the key

Most animals are killed violently in slaughterhouses, but I see your point.

I doubt it's for ethical reasons. Probably to avoid being sued.

Did they ever prove that? She was blaming undiagnosed bi polar disorder too at one point if she took responsibility and was a little...sad? About what she had done regretting it maybe? But she comes across as self centered self focused zero empathy maybe I haven't seen the right interviews?

WouldYouLikeAnyToast · 01/10/2026 08:33

Sounds like an utter farce.
Also they're trying to save her life when she was on death row and it was meant to kill her?
Make it make sense. 😕

Missey85 · 01/10/2026 08:34

I hope it hurt she deserves nobody's sympathy mine is saved for the real victim Colleen that she murdered I hope she does slowly and very painfully

BermudaRhombus · 01/10/2026 08:35

Perhaps they will commute her sentence to life without parole and I’m guessing she would be held in a secure medical facility. It seems inconceivable to me that she could make any sort of full recovery from this sort of physical and mental trauma, though I’m not a doctor. Death penalty advocates in the US would surely be wary of the PR with executing a seriously sick and disabled person.

The majority of the pharmaceutical companies don't allow their drugs to be used for the death penalty. So states have to scratch around for chemicals that "might" work.
