Mid-terms looming, approval falling, prices rising, wars ongoing - Ping Ping and Fu Shuang must be wondering what heinous crime they committed to be banished chosen as envoys of friendship between China and USA. 🐼🐼

Roswell.

Just going to leave that there.

Oh. I see where you are coming from. They did have things "happen" at Lakenheath.

I’m sure when Trump wakes up he’ll explain it all to the world and throw in some insults and national security secrets as well.

Not just UK citizens that can be killed with impunity by US personnel it seems

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cwgkv70gg1j3o

Trying to work out what the difference between being killed by a US or Russian in the UK is. ?

US Marine Lance Corporal Devin Jacob Ballard leaves a police station to be sent to prosecutors over the killing of a Japanese woman in Naha, Okinawa Prefecture

'Not again': Arrest of US marine for murder reignites protests in Japan's Okinawa

For many locals on this island, the arrest has brought decades of frustration back to the fore.

Apparently a locust was found on the Isles of Scilly. Can't verify it. Within the comments in the link below. It's still summer weather here. Set to change on Wednesday.

If you want to go down the rabbit hole about escaped viruses, look up Ebola. It has a connection with the US and Europe. The Hot Zone by Richard Preston is a good read.

It's a shame COVID was so mild ... the boy who cried wolf springs to mind.

Still, I'd happily die with every possible fluid from every possible orifice if it meant my last sight was that of an anti-vaxxer wondering in their last seconds on earth why they have caught something imaginary .

Actually, the reverse is probably true. If I stayed in, I would be able to imagine the sensible, rational, kind people there are in the world, instead of going out and not only realising there are dregs but meeting them too .....

For the Lakenheath bit that isn't altogether implausible given that Lakenheath Fen is literally just across the road from one end of the base. However, that incident also went across to RAF Bentwaters on the edge of Rendlesham Forest, with no swamp in sight.

You can cross off boils. Scrotus is a big enough boil on our ass all by himself to qualify as a plague.

"'Cos there's no swamp nearer that three hundred miles" means it can't have been Lakenham. Oh well.

RafaistheKingofClay · 05/10/2026 19:50

Has anyone been following the increasingly large list of contaminated foodstuffs the FDA has recalled. I am particularly fond of the attempt by factpostnews on Twitter to match pictures of RFK to the recalled foodstuffs.

here he is as tuna, chocolate ice cream and Gatorade.

It's hardly three hundred miles, as you would know if you had bothered to look at a map of the UK. Both locations are in fact in Suffolk. Where I live. Lakenheath is just up the road from me.

And what I said was that swamp gas would in fact have been plausible at the Lakenheath location - just not in the middle of Rendlesham Forest. And given that the 1956 sightings occurred on the same night and that objects were identified as flying at speeds over 1,000 miles per hour (not possible with known technology of the time) that makes the swamp gas explanation implausible.

However, the events occurred on a night when there was Perseid meteor shower activity.

Do I know what happened? Hell no. Do I think it was UFOs? Of course - there were objects, they were flying, they were unknown. That's the definition.

Camped with friends and sons/cousin in Rendlesham forest. We loved it, especially the open air Shakespeare production of King Lear. The mushrooms 🍄 look out of this world. Emoji mushroom 🍄 is a good representation.

The song is from America. And Roswell (to which I was referring, in reply to iwishitwouldstartraining's post, which I quoted) is in New Mexico. This might explain why I didn't bother to look at a map of a different country in a different continent when I made the joking remark and used the excuse to link to that song.

I did rather wonder what UFO sightings nine years later in England had to do with it, but hey.

Pneumonic plague also happens in the US.

Was watching Channel 4 news and listened to what Annie Jacobsen had to say. If it's spread naturally then then PP isn't considered a health scare.

However she said if it's a biological lab escape that's a different scenario regarding the spread and the public contagion.

A bubonic plague smear shows the presence of Yersinia pestis bacteria which causes the plague

Arizona resident dies from pneumonic plague, health officials say

This was the first recorded death from the disease in Coconino County since 2007.

Annie Jacobsen has written extensively about war scenarios. One of her books is Biological War.

Her conclusion regarding the Russian incident was that it wasn't deliberate but probably a lab error. The young woman's family will be mourning her death.

RafaistheKingofClay · 05/10/2026 21:45

I think the question is more WTF were they doing playing with plague in that lab. Because it is treatable now usually. If it’s just normal plague it shouldn’t be an issue. If they’d been fiddling with it who knows.

Re VZ oil, how about this. We are going to need a bigger bacofoil hat.

Former GOP congressman and longtime Rubio friend sentenced to 10 years for secret Venezuela lobbying | CNN Politics

"A former Miami congressman and longtime friend of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison in connection with a secret $50 million lobbying campaign on Venezuela’s behalf during the first Trump administration."

"In an indictment unsealed in 2022, prosecutors alleged that Rivera was tapped by then Foreign Minister Delcy Rodríguez — now Venezuela’s acting president — to work Republican connections to get the first Trump administration to abandon its hard line and crippling sanctions on Venezuela."

"The three-month, $50 million contract with Rivera’s one-man consulting firm, they said, was focused on luring oil giant ExxonMobil back to Venezuela — commercial work that is generally exempt from the Foreign Agents Registration Act."

"Before being elected to Congress in 2010, Rivera was a high-ranking Florida legislator and shared a Tallahassee home with Rubio, who eventually became the Florida House speaker."

Right you are then. Former housemate and bestie of Rubio, jailed for 10 years for taking $50million bribe from Delcy Rodríguez.
