I have already stocked up on coffee and chocolate in preparation for after the polls start closing. Polls start closing at 6pm EST and closings then start to 'roll across the country' hourly, with the last polls closing at 1 am ET in Alaska. (subtract 3 hours for me, PST). Polls in CA close at 8pm (5pm ET).

It's about an hour-ish after the polls close in a state before TV news start announcing exit polls, and later still when results start coming in and they start 'calling' races.

It's going to be a long long night!
