A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I’ve just had a weekend in Cornwall, so like @SapphireCasino I'm happy and relaxed too. Not having watched or heard any news since Thursday has been a relief. I did wonder whether to carry on ignoring what’s happening but that’s not realistic. Times are such that we need to be forewarned to arm ourselves for what might come.
The tapestry is very amusing but look beyond that. We are being governed by such a bunch of eegits that another party can feel open to freely mock them. Satire has existed for many many years but never before has it been so blatant. Kemi, with her far superior intellect, has been toying with them in the house to which they’ve never come back in any meaningful way - is this likely to receive any?
As a retired MOD civil servant I am sure that the military have a handle on what’s going on regards the defence of this country, and as I’ve said before, I think being aware of the unadulterated truth is what’s keeping Wes Streeting so quiet, but are Labour capable of think the looming crisis through? That coupled with the number of unknown men we usher in?
All in all, we’re all being failed in a way never seen in modern times by those that have been elected to run our country. It’s all so depressing.

Yes I’ve taken a couple of extended breaks from social media and news media recently. Think I’m about ready for another one.

LupaMoonhowl · 06/10/2026 12:34

Meanwhile in France, school is set alight with people v in it, and protesters blocking the v exits? According to BFMTV (French mainstream news channel)

The problem with taking a break from any form of media (it's just everywhere these days) is coping with the trepidation that comes with returning to it. I imagine astronauts feel the same way on their return, hurtling towards earth's atmosphere.😬

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/10/2026 12:35

That’s very scary.

I generally really need to do something social media related, and I can’t just get in and get out, I know I’ll be sucked back in like a vortex!

That's horrific. Whatever is going on in France, it's not a "normal" demonstration.

I can see that the genuinely poor and destitute who live in appalling conditions in the developing world might riot out of desperation to be heard, and destroy property in the process.

But French school kids? You’d have to be incredibly thick or malicious or both to condone this sort of nonsense and the inevitable, and unnecessary, misery caused. Like, for example, a teenager blowing off his own hand by picking up a stun grenade to throw it back at police.

But then the left doesn’t care. It’s all about the Marxist historical destiny. The little people are just fodder for the cause. But let us not forget how very virtuous the left is. 🙄

The left are scrambling. No virtue there. Idk why they feel they have it.

Poor people in France, the fires are horrifying.

EasternStandard · 05/10/2026 21:33

That ‘they’re just being French’ is so typical on mn, as protestors riot and set fire to stuff. Such an mn view.

Yes they are just being all eccentric and so French. There are no structural issues at all. The EU is marvellous.

CandidLurker · 06/10/2026 12:48

I watched a French news channel. There was a comment along the lines of “5,000 guys on the street ok, but what if it’s 50,000”…

SersioulycanitgetWORSE · 06/10/2026 13:22

Well a french teacher did start a thread about the conditions apparently no sen provisions , students sitting on the floor , classrooms 35/ 40 degrees , massive issues with replacement teachers and teachers off ill /students trying to life changing exams with no proper teaching.

It sounds grim but I think the left get hold of these thing fan the flames and turn it into chaos dont they.
I can't believe that a young man has possibly lost an arm over this ??

It does sound bad. And hardly an EU utopia. France are languishing in even higher debt than us.

It sounds like some entirely legitimate grievances that have been hijacked by some very bad actors who do not have these kids best interests at heart, with the worst of them acting as willing footsoldiers.

CandidLurker · 06/10/2026 14:32

Yes I think there definitely are legitimate grievances which go back a long time. However the situation now looks like it’s becoming out of control. Large demo’s today and have just read the police are firing tear gas. 40,000 due to march through the capital alone so it’s got to be hundreds of thousands across the country.

I watched a video, police were putting on masks earlier. I guessed tear gas.

I really must question who the fuck we have living in the UK and Europe if we are seeing mass public commemorations of a brutal terrorist attack against civilians.

SersioulycanitgetWORSE · 06/10/2026 16:01

There's one in London tomorrow. The Met have said no masks.

How lovely. That's the one that the met is being reported as "powerless" to stop, even though the police could section 34 the entire Gosport?
Right, right.

And so it spreads.

Something is very Amiss there.
