A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Spain's socialist PM announces snap election following anger over housing crisis mol.im/a/16183345 via https://dailym.ai/android

Well so many have been arrested for corruption including his wife. I wondered when he would make a run for it.

ooh interesting.

When she said a builder could manage a long ladder on a bike I lost interest.

Is she thinking more of window cleaners? Where is the builder supposed to put his tools etc?

It's always the socialists, isn't it?

I think fundamentally socialists just want to help themselves to other people's money - and often don't really care much whether it's through politics, corruption or direct theft.

Edited

I agree - not least because of the reported comments about ministers holding meetings solely to discuss where they could implement new taxes or raise existing ones.

I think she might be on MN, I have seen the same suggestions on here.

Someone was posting earlier about some bad shit idea that for tradesman fuel for the van was an option cost of running the business.

Reading somewhere speculation that if Marine Le Pen wins the Presidency, France could just descend into complete chaos (more than it has already) because the Left won’t accept the result.

That’s really interesting /hadn’t considered that. Sobering.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/10/2026 15:59

When are their elections?

NancyThompson · 05/10/2026 15:59

@CandidLurker do you think that's plausibly likely? Will the police/military support the elected government?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/10/2026 15:59

April or May next year I think.

When are their elections?

Sunday, 18 April 2027 Is first round (second round two weeks later if one candidate doesn’t get more than 50%.
They were using lawfare to try to prevent her from standing, theory among some French people I know is that they are letting her stand because they think she will get fewer votes than if Jordan Bardella stood.

the police/military will support the government I think and French police especially the CRS don’t mess around. However I guess it just depends on numbers. I have no sense of how strong the Left is and how resistant the public (especially the young who are demonstrating at the moment) would be to a National Rally win

Sanchez and government ignoring housing crisis in Spain, Ceuto, so now a snap election

Germany ignoring AFD (nothing to see here)

Macron ignoring France going up in flames.

British lets rejoin the EU. 🙄

NancyThompson · 05/10/2026 16:18

The current protesters/rioters could probably very easily be stopped given political will, so if that's the numbers I don't think it would be a huge problem, but with greater numbers who knows I guess.

Yes some nostalgia at play. It’s not all roses by any means.

They'll have to start really scaring them with water cannons, rubber bullets because in France they're on a serious tear.

Did you see the high school in Nantes that got burned down? Absolutely beautiful new building, gone.

I suspect Le Pen and co will be happy to oblige on that front anyway, and the some.

justasking111 · 05/10/2026 16:24

Watching Gosport, locked down hard for 48 hours to enable migration. We're a lot tougher than France Germany or Spain. For whom martial law is a solution.

Shocking stuff. Not much on here about it. I found the flame thrower in a woman’s face just so bad.

justasking111 · 05/10/2026 16:35

My friend in France during the COVID lockdowns she said that the army were at every major junction. She had to print off a permission slip from some government body to go shopping. Where are the army now. The French police are overwhelmed.

…and the euro has just fallen to its lowest level against the dollar in 17 months. But yes 100% let’s rejoin this basket case of an organisation!

Threatening isn't it

Good argument for rejoining the EU of say 5 or 10 years ago but joining to be part of something that isn't currently working for most the general population of the EU seems a little short sighted
