A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I do find it increasingly difficult to recognise this country. All the natural expectations - a moderate, sensible people; close alliance with the US and the rest of the English-speaking world; secure borders; and so on - are collapsing.

Even when Labour’s antisemitism burst out under Corbyn it was at least condemned. I never, ever thought I’d see a mainstream party advocate outlawing Jews as the Greens have done. And there are plenty elsewhere on the left silently approving.

The US doesn’t trust our security for its military and is leaving.

What the fuck is happening?

Excellent post.

I was just listening to Frank Gardner talking about the B1s leaving Fairford PDQ and if my understanding is correct, their departure is a good for the UK because "the US is at war with Iran and we are not."

My interpretation of that statement is the UK isn't currently target for Iran, which is a positive given we have other security issues - such as Labour facilitating mass illegal immigration of people with the potential to do us harm.

As soon as I start hearing talk about scrapping our nuclear armaments, which I have no doubt will be on the agenda at some point in the next 20 years, I am getting as far away from these benighted Islands as I can.

Of course I have no evidence to suggest that a major foreign political adversary is playing the long game and taking advantage of our weak and disunified leadership to ultimately make us weak and powerless from within.

But...

If that were to be the case, I don't think the last 30 years of politics would be all that different in truth. How can it possibly be that our leaders (no matter the party) consistently make decision after decision that ultimately breaks down social order and makes us look weak on the international scene? They've got me sounding like a bloody conspiracy theorist at this point.

👏 👏

Love your second para.

So Frank thinks Iran will leave us alone now does he?

Asked to leave by the British government?

I don’t know, I’m speculating.

I’m not sure about that? It was a US decision on lack of security. From what I’ve listened to this morning.

Oh sorry, I misunderstood what Frank Gardner was saying

On a lighter note, I bloody love the tapestry at conservative party conference. 😀

Looking forward to Griffith's speech. Happy with what I've heard so far.

Me too! The tapestry is witty and good fun.

He was good earlier. Actually talking about what to do rather than Burnham’s game show politics.

Fortunately, I didn’t see anyone mention the Erasmus Programme. The ultimate in middle class worry.

Yes, and ‘we can only stay a few weeks at our holiday home(s) in Europe’.

38thparallel · 05/10/2026 11:13

"National security can't come at the expense of social security"

Who will join the armed forces anyway, since if any of them do any fighting they’ll be arrested when they come home.

Probably praying they will - like the rest of us.

I do like Gardner, though - not least because of what appears to be his encyclopaedic knowledge of the Middle East and measured analysis of current events.

Fair enough.
Haven't our security services already foiled about 20 attacks though before the US bombed Iran?
Although Red Ed's shook hands with the Iranian foreign minister so perhaps the UK is now an Iran ally. (Sarcasm obv).
Stop the train, I want to get off.

Okay this isn't Labour but it did make me laugh - you guys may have seen the Lib Dem Hina Bokhari suggesting that tradesmen could get around London on cargo bikes.

I enjoyed this response very much.

Ediz (@ediz1975) on X

They told Builders and plumbers to use bikes to get around and cycle …. These builders tried ….. 10 out of 10 for effort….. #cyclist

I think she might be on MN, I have seen the same suggestions on here.

When she said a builder could manage a long ladder on a bike I lost interest.
