A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Also now our relationship with the UAE has been effectively trashed, we’ve even less chance of influencing anything that happens in the region.

I don't think anyone around the world takes us seriously at the moment. Just look at the calibre of our politicians what use are they on the international stage. We're being run by some pretty inept councillors. If they were our neighbours we'd steer clear of them.

Snap election in Spain.

Thus will be fun to watch.

Good morning.

I was just listening to Andrew Neil on Times quoting his American sources.
He said the US received intelligence that an attack specifically targeting the B1s with drones was imminent. This was linked to Iran and the arrests made recently. The bombers were removed at unprecedented speed. They took off before even being able to refuel, some had only just landed at Fairford.
The US clearly don't trust that we could defend them and there is no suggestion that this will be temporary.

Yes we are losing allies all over the place

LuckyHazelFox · 05/10/2026 09:13

Morning @Nuthatch26 thanks for the update. That is really really worrying. What state are we in defence wise. If only we had a government that put it at the top if its agenda.

Spain's socialist PM announces snap election following anger over housing crisis mol.im/a/16183345 via https://dailym.ai/android

Well so many have been arrested for corruption including his wife. I wondered when he would make a run for it.

Spain moving right would be a big deal. France up next. Merz struggling. It’ll change the EU landscape and affect Burnham’s dream of re-joining.

I think this prospect has nicely set up my day, Eastern.

I read a bit of the EU rejoin thread. The usual middle class concerns about being able to use the same currency on holiday, what queue you are in at the airport, children being able to go to live in the EU. They can still do that now. Lots of people did it before “free movement” and can still do it now.

Fortunately, I didn’t see anyone mention the Erasmus Programme. The ultimate in middle class worry.

To be fair we probably couldn't defend them. If our counter drone approach is hoping that a farmer nearby will spot them. Maybe that is what the Labour conference tag line really meant, our defence strategy is all about hope, again.

Yep. Can't argue with that. We should be embarrassed by this.

Yep. Europe is not the same as when we left.

Further afield, Bolsonaro's son has just won the first round in Brazil. Whoever wins the first round always goes on to win the election. The ex first lady and two other sons have also won their elections to become senators etc.

Yes this could be a big shift too. It looks like he’ll distance from BRICs and re-align with the US and OECD countries.

Yep, huge shift particularly on oil.

I do find it increasingly difficult to recognise this country. All the natural expectations - a moderate, sensible people; close alliance with the US and the rest of the English-speaking world; secure borders; and so on - are collapsing.

Even when Labour’s antisemitism burst out under Corbyn it was at least condemned. I never, ever thought I’d see a mainstream party advocate outlawing Jews as the Greens have done. And there are plenty elsewhere on the left silently approving.

The US doesn’t trust our security for its military and is leaving.

What the fuck is happening?

"National security can't come at the expense of social security".

As soon as I start hearing talk about scrapping our nuclear armaments, which I have no doubt will be on the agenda at some point in the next 20 years, I am getting as far away from these benighted Islands as I can.

Of course I have no evidence to suggest that a major foreign political adversary is playing the long game and taking advantage of our weak and disunified leadership to ultimately make us weak and powerless from within.

But...

If that were to be the case, I don't think the last 30 years of politics would be all that different in truth. How can it possibly be that our leaders (no matter the party) consistently make decision after decision that ultimately breaks down social order and makes us look weak on the international scene? They've got me sounding like a bloody conspiracy theorist at this point.

It’s weird isn’t it that many on the left will be championing the countries that don’t like us, they’ll be aligning with Iran or whomever even though they really would be happy to see us fail.

It’s student leftism and you can see it everywhere. The Green Party but not just there.

Safety, privilege and leftism on social media.
