A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Bridget Philipson has issued a statement. I'm not convinced by it. She wants Polanski to "make it clear that this will not be the party's position moving forward".

What on earth is the point of that?

Labour just saying any old performative thing so that they can avoid taking a genuine stance, or putting their own cowardly arses on the line for what's right.

Nuthatch26 · 04/10/2026 21:34

Binnyforthewin · 04/10/2026 21:20

How can Polanski do that when it have just been determined that it is their policy moving forward?

I don't know, but I detect a little panic in Philipson's statement. Perhaps Labour are hoping the greens will back pedal to their previous level of anti semitism to make life easier for everyone.

Dd found it on X and sent it to me.

Apparently there are 700 migrants arriving, or have arrived, in Gosport this evening. Coaches have been parked up in nearby Fareham ready to transport them, guarded by police, and a fleet of ambulances are standing by (for what, I have no idea, but maybe to treat any unwell migrants as they come ashore or perhaps to treat casualties from the anticipated protests). Reports are saying hundreds of people have gathered in the area.

If this carries on, Labour might literally have blood on their hands.

That doesn't sound good. Is it on X? I haven't seen anything yet.

I've just seen this on X - a huge amount of anger. Gosport locked down and the police out en masse to transport these men safetly to wherever it is they are taking them.

Actually, that seems a pretty decent statement.

Still don't see much pointing asking them to say it won't be their position, when they've just said it is. But I guess they felt they had to actually ask.

Thanks for posting that.

Nuthatch26 · 04/10/2026 21:59

Found this on local press. The local ambulance service say they are not there to assess the migrants, but to support police.

Edited

Yeah, I don't see the point either. They've made their position clear. Wishful thinking on Phillipson's part perhaps.

Was watching the livestream from Gosport as local to where my parents live.
Locals are desperate - these are working class people who’ve always assumed that the police are fair, that the law supports those who obey the law.
People are bewildered, hurt, confused, angry.

Nuthatch26 · 04/10/2026 22:23

USA have withdrawn all of their bombers from RAF Fairford. Not good.

I would feel the same if this was happening on my doorstep.

Anyone else have the sense we're living in the authored-by-Lionel-Shriver timeline?
Everything is both so shitty and degraded, and so incredibly stupid.

There as got to be more to this story than what the press are able to report.

I would feel the same if this was happening on my doorstep.

I lost faith in the police many years ago, which is sad.

LupaMoonhowl · 04/10/2026 22:52

My OH son is in the Met - utterly disillusioned - joined wanting to be an actual policeman but the management is either cynical or incompetent or both.

SersioulycanitgetWORSE · 04/10/2026 22:55

Labour need the greens to look paletable for possible election collab

LupaMoonhowl · 04/10/2026 22:55

Also….
AB Man City links.
Man City corruption.
UAE investment in Man City.
Lots to see here.

CandidLurker · 05/10/2026 07:58

There are so many worrying things about the state of this country. Not least the fact that every day we are importing hundreds of people that we know nothing about and absorbing them into communities, housing them, giving them immediate access to the NHS etc. I just despair. Especially when the Conservatives were in power for so many years and did nothing.

They can’t do much about it as the Green members determine policy. Listening to Vox pops outside the conference I’m not surprised at the voting on it.

CandidLurker · 05/10/2026 08:20

Whilst I’m on a rant this morning, this ugly rise in anti-semitism totally sickens me. I have a friend in London and a few years ago when all the marches started, I said this is just going to lead to ant-semitism.

we can do nothing to influence what is happening in the ME. Absolutely nothing. We are a country that can’t even control our own borders. Weak.

And whatever one thinks of the Man City situation, we will no longer get be seen as a “friendly” country by the UAE. Goodbye to billions in inward investment that will go elsewhere. Realpolitik.

…And the American planes have gone….
