Who has the most famous face? Voice? Is the most recognisable? Whether you like the person or not...

Would Jesus be known in Asia - in India and China?

Somewhere between 45 and 100 million Christians in China
Roughly 28 million in India
Over 200 million Muslims in India
20 plus million Muslims in China

So yes.

Do you think I care? It's an Internet forum for entertainment purposes. You know exactly who I meant.
Dodgy spelling is the reason I added the description.

Edited

Clearly you don’t care, but that’s not the point; the point was that if he was the most famous person worldwide, in all history, then no one would misspelling his name or feeling the need to explain who he was.

William Shakespeare and Agatha Christie are the most best selling authors throughout the world.

Not sure he's even in the top 10 just for England!

Ronaldo would not even feature on my radar, which i think illustrates my point. Depends on the individual

It’s not about individuals though.

And it’s not Jesus or bloody Trump either.

The study accessed some of the world’s most remote tribes and communities, they hadn’t heard of the Queen, why would they? Although they often worshipped a god or a figure, they didn’t recognise Jesus. However, they did know Ronaldo, and Coca Cola!

Nestorians Jesus was documented in the Tang Dynasty, and accepted, around 1400 yrs ago, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jingjiao_Documents I think the Nestorians separate Jesus and Jesus Christ; so there was a fallible human on earth who became a god on death but they were persecuted in the Middle East for their beliefs and fled to safety in China.

I believe JC is a Saint in branches of most religions, so YES.

2nd place goes to Mohammed & 3rd place to santa Claus... well, he's based on a real person right, St Nicholas.

We can all agree that most of what we think we know about any of those 3 people is myth

I reckon that if you take into account Hinduism has been going on for a lot longer, it would probably be Vishnu, not Jesus.

Princess Diana and George Michael…they also looked similar!

I’m glad someone else said this I felt like I was the only one 😭😂

But would the average Chinese person know - I don't think literacy was for the massess in China until the 1940's when the PRC initiated education reforms, so Jesus would be known only by the elite few. Prob more mid 1800's.

trekkiemonster · 28/09/2026 17:02

First thoughts were Hitler, Jesus, Einstein, Michael Jackson, the queen and Marilyn Monroe lol

I don't think any pop stars could compete with Hitler, Jesus and Einstein.
Pop stars might be popular in the English speaking countries but not internationally beyond that.

The Queen maybe but only because of stamps.

Other than King Phiipe (Spanish King if my spelling isn't right) I don't think I'd recognise any countries Royalty, wither they are called King, Emporeror Sheilk etc

How can you possibly think Michael Jackson was/is not recognised worldwide but the Queen was?!? Whaaaat?!

karrabee · 28/09/2026 18:57

Jesus. Prophet Muhammad. Hitler. Ronaldo.

CurlewKate · 28/09/2026 19:09

Surely we each will only recognise our own culture’s image of Jesus? And there are no images of Mohammed to recognise….

I am unsure if it is from the beginning of time and cumulative - if so I still think Cleopatra would have more people globally recognising her. She had a 1600 year head start over Jesus and women and men would know her for her beauty and fashions meaning her allure wasn't just for certain parts of society in any nation.

Would people in many Asian ot African countries have seen MJ?

They are more likely to have seen UK stamps with the Queen.

1600 years between 51-30BC and the birth of Jesus?.

Tang Dynasty was accepting. They could all live under the Jade Emperor (like hedging your bets, the more the merrier.) Much later, the Jesuits, Mateo Ricci and Giuseppe Castiglione https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matteo_Ricci served in the court to an extent but lived outside the forbidden city. You could argue too that one of the first modern peasant uprisings was by the self proclaimed Christian Hong Xiuquan (brother of Jesus no less) https://www.britannica.com/event/Taiping-Rebellion . China has a long a rich, and fascinating history of Christianity. So too with Islam, Daoism, Buddhism etc. Folk are folk and will do as they will.

Purely on face/voice as specified in the OP I would have to agree with those saying Hitler.

We do not know what Jesus or the Prophet Mohammed looked like - if we are discounting recognition of face and voice I would say both jointly - since you do not have to be Christian or Muslim to know of their existence.
