Who has the most famous face? Voice? Is the most recognisable? Whether you like the person or not...

There are some really daft responses on this thread.

My first thought was Hitler, followed by Pythagerous (Greek mathematician)

Reading the thread I'm thinking its a toss between Jesus & pytharous.

Well you’ve spelt Pythagoras wrongly TWICE in your suggestion of him, as well as feeling the need to explain who he is, so it’s probably not him!

There really are. Very British/American/ Eurocentric.
Emmeline Pankhurst ? The most famous person in the entire world, ever? Laughable. No one outside Britain has heard of her.

Yes this one and I think the poster also referred to her as “Emily”

Surely it has to be a Jesus, Ronaldo or Trump? Possibly Muhammad but Christianity is bigger.

Do you think I care? It's an Internet forum for entertainment purposes. You know exactly who I meant.
Dodgy spelling is the reason I added the description.

Hitler

Yes I agree because he was real and totally the most evil person that ever lived.
Also I think Elvis but for very different reasons.

Surely it depends if your talking all time famous or currently famous ie people who were alive 50 years ago wouldn't have heard of Trump or Ronaldo.

But they would have heard of Jesus.
Who is also mentioned in the Koran. So he's definitely more famous than Muhammad.

Would Jesus be known in Asia - in India and China?

I believe JC is a Saint in branches of most religions, so YES.

2nd place goes to Mohammed & 3rd place to santa Claus... well, he's based on a real person right, St Nicholas.

We can all agree that most of what we think we know about any of those 3 people is myth

This has been done so many times.

There was an actual study as to who is “known” most widely across the globe and the answer is Ronaldo

Ace.

BCBird · 28/09/2026 08:46

I woukd say it depends on the age and nationality or ethnicity of the person you ask. Late 50s me British i woukd say Jesus Christ, followed by Quern Elizabeth second. A French person might say someone different.

BCBird · 28/09/2026 08:47

Ronaldo would not even feature on my radar, which i think illustrates my point. Depends on the individual

backformoreofthesame · 28/09/2026 08:53

Jesus or Mohammed

Jesus or Mohammed

If its between Jesus and Mohammed Jesus has to be more famous.

EmpressStorm · 28/09/2026 08:58

Google says it is in fact Jesus. He was a real person, whether he carried out miracles and was the son of god, is what’s up for dispute. But was he a person who was one of the first people to spread the idea of god and faith yes, of course. Not the first of course, but one of the earliest.

I'd didn't know Jesus was regarded as a Saint in most religions.

I know obvious he's the main man in Christianity and I knew he was mentioned in the Koran.

What other religions mention him?

Divinedownload · 28/09/2026 09:02

Elvis Presley lol

I think Bahá’í is the only other one which gives him any formal recognition.

He was definitely a real person - but you are right that he has taken on a larger than life character.

Western civilisation has been shaped by the New Testament so profoundly that we don't even notice most of it.

We can't be sure of that. Richard Carrier spent 5 years researching his first book on the historical evidence and concluded there's about a 1 in 3 chance that the christ myth is based on a real person.

SmallDFartyCarNRG · 28/09/2026 09:19

Cleopatra - suspect she would be globally recognised and named correctly more frequently than if ppl saw a white guy with a beard (could be an artisnal baker, could be Jesus 🤔)

Maddy70 · 28/09/2026 09:29

Hitler

I was assuming that we were asking everyone in the world who is alive now. It would much more complicated if we go back in time to ask that question because the answer will obviously depend on how far we go back. 10 years? 50? 100? 500? 1000?

There are 28 million Christians in India. More than the UK!

Ooh that's a good one.

Because if we say 'most famous ever' - how do we quantify that? I'd guess we'd do that by counting up every person that has ever heard of that famous person. And as Cleopatra had a dead start on Jesus, you'd have to add all the people that had heard of her before Jesus was born to the total meaning she might just beat him

Yes good point, all the Muslims who have ever lived have heard of Jesus too as he's a prophet in the Quran.
