The youngens think MP3 players are from ancient history, while I still see them as a brand new and exciting technology 😂 #dragndrop4life

Having to explain to the youngsters at work that Atomic Kitten were not the originals to sing the Tide is High and that Blondie were - and then having to tell them who Blondie and Debbie Harry are!

Tbh if the youngsters at work know. Atomic kittens version they are probably not that young as it was over 20 years ago!

Taking DD to university last week. Was a real "Huh, I produced an adult. How the hell did I manage that when I don't feel like an adult yet?" moment

My DS asked me the time yesterday and I said "What am I, the speaking clock?"

Total blank stare.

I’m 40 and don’t know what you’re on about 🤣🤣

TigerRag · 25/09/2026 15:42

Someone posted on X I think it was that there's a footballer born in 2010 who played in last season's champions league

If you dial 123 from a landline, you get through to a recorded message that tells you the exact time.

It ceased to be popular once everyone had mobile phones.

Ah ok. One thing I never learned. Although I do remember my grans landline number, despite it not being in use for about 20 years 🤣

A poster on a thread last year posted that her daughter born in the mid 90s was having a baby and my first thought was she must have been a very young mum untill i realised she would be around 30.

JengaCupboard · 25/09/2026 16:26

I've just taken on a new guy at work. When I started working here, he was 2.5 years old. Bleurgh...

I'm having some non-essential dentistry - I went last week to have bone density analysis because I'm over 40...

My cousin became a dad last year at 22. I remember him being a baby! It didn't seem that long ago

I wear a vintage brooch on one of my coats

Just got to work, when a colleague (who is a day older than my youngest child) walked up

'I love your badge!'

'It's a brooch'

'What's a brooch?'

I feel like a real old lady...

BIossomtoes · 25/09/2026 16:59

Brooches are massively fashionable now. They’re having a moment.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 25/09/2026 17:47

Me, talking to teenager about a certain kids tv show: "Aww, you used to love that when you were little"

Teen: "Yes, I remember you used use a black brick thing to put it on the tv."

Me: "That wasn't a brick, it was a VHS" FFS!

Teen: *Looks blank "Don't they sell sofas?"

Me: "No, thats DFS". FML!

When your GP is younger than you and your consultants (who I've seen on and off since I was a child) are all retiring

Butler and Wilson have never gone out of style. I covet one of their original giant spiders and the one of glove shoulder brooches that Craig RH wears on strictly.

My Granddaughter started Uni last week and i swear she was born last year.

My friend and I were doing a task at work with some teenagers, They were asking what we used to watch as kids. Another colleague said to us "Do you remember Captain Caveman?" The two of us popped our heads up from a shelf unit and in tandem shouted "Captain CAVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEMAAAAAANNNN"
The teenagers looked awkwardly at each other and burst out laughing 😂

I’d be clueless as well and I’m late 40s. I’ve just googled the reference and never heard of the show it’s from.

I had to google that reference as well. Ironically, (although I have actually heard of the show) I was rather too old to have watched it - for context, I'm in my early 60s.

My initial thought was that she was talking about a much earlier show called Pinky & Perky, they were sort of like a 1950s/1960s version of Alvin & The Chipmunks (if that is a more relevant reference?). Here is an example of the sort of music

This is a Youtube video of them.

The video is from a performance on a different TV show called 'Crackerjack'. This aired from 1955 until 1984, I primarily remember it during the 1970s.

The opening titles of the programme included the phrase

"It's Friday, it's five o'clock, it's Crackerjack"

Just try saying that to anybody under 50!

The competitions were rather interesting. Here is one from 1979 in two parts on Youtube

I don't know how 11 and 12 year old children would answer those questions today.

Incidentally, here is a full episode from 1975

@Barton10 Blondie were not the originals to sing The Tide is High. The original was in 1967 by John Holt and a band called The Paragons. I must be even older than you.....

BeUmberMember · 25/09/2026 23:14

I was explaining to.my granddaughter how I took my first typing exam on an old manual typewriter with a ribbon filled with ink you had to change and a pink copy behind the carbon paper. I said that the keys were that sharp when pressed hard and fast that the pink copy came out full of tiny holes and looked like a doily. She asked me what carbon paper was and what a doily was! Then we were so excited when Tippex came out as it saved making holes in your letter with a hard typewriter rubber. I achieved RSA grade 1 for producing 35 words per minute with no mistakes and was then able to learn audio typing from a tiny cartridge placed in a small tape recorder with headphones attached.
