Previous thread is almost full. I'm back on it, have cleared the corner of doom in my bedroom today. Next stop is sorting the eBay/chazza bag in the conservatory...

Day started badly leak under kitchen sink. Two kilos of washing powder in a cardboard box ruined. Had to empty everything out clean and dry cupboard then put everything back. DH just shrugged hasn't said he'll fix it.

But then the day improved. Set about the sitting room. Have taken down all the curtains two sets so will wash individually and rehang, one pole needs a bracket repair first.

Then the nice bit putting out the autumn ornaments and lights on the mantelpiece. It looks very pretty. A pp recommended Method wood polish so I bought some it smells gorgeous almonds and eucalyptus. So my furniture is happy and shiny.

I did DH and my tax returns. Not due until the end of October, but we had all the info we needed so I just... did them. I'm sure it was thanks to this thread. I wish I could sort all our paperwork, I'm just not sure how to get started. I've binned a lot of old documents, but I'm not sure how to organise what's now left...

If they need to be kept. I use treasury tags file in date order and throw into some pretty archive boxes I bought in home bargains. They sit under a small table in the office. I ought to go through them some are over a decade old now 🙈

The rest I give to the accountant who stores them.

This is a nice idea. I decluttered the house a few years ago and tidying / decluttering is an ongoing job that I’m largely on top of but since the summer I’ve lost the motivation to do anything new.

so when I have finished the coffee next to me I’m going to start painting my downstairs toilet. It had a leak about six months ago which had fixed. Just behind the toilet is a discoloured bit of wall. I bought the special paint to cover it six months ago so whenever I go to the toilet I look at it and it mocks me. In a minute I’ll put my phone down and will start preparing the wall.

Anonanonanonagain · 26/09/2026 09:55

I need to replace the side panel on the bath. We had a leak A YEAR AGO and I threw out the side panel as it was a yellow colour, bought a new one and never cut it to size so this is the one thing today and it will take me minutes I presume to do it.

TicTac80 · 26/09/2026 17:37

Well folks, I've not sold the bike (but have put the feelers out amongst friends/colleagues to see if they know anyone who is looking to buy a bike). A friend of mine is not well so I've been seeing her/helping her out on my days off.

What have I done this week (when not working or seeing friend):
Cooked a ton of meals for freezer, done basic housework and life admin.

Today?
-I made a v small start on decluttering (just cups from my cup/mug shelf).
-Did a mini maintenance service on my downstair Eufy as I noticed that it wasn't wetting the mops. Done some troubleshooting with help of google and hoping I can fix it (it's out of warranty but still worth saving!)
-cleaned all my floors with steam cleaner

Did a 5k run (well, jog!), felt all smug and triumphant that I hadn't died (or wet myself,) then thought I would chill out quick before a nice bath or shower...I made the fatal error of clicking on this thread... I got inspired. So out I went to garden, mowed the lawn, dug up shitty weeds that are growing through cracks in my driveway, then cut away about 15ft of overgrown brambles/blackberry bush. I've moved the bins to where the bush was (frees up space on the driveway). Unfortunately getting rid of giant bush of doom, has made me realise I need to make fence repairs before the really shitty winter weather hits us (I think that maybe the giant bramble bush was helping to hold fence together!). soooo there we go...another shitty job to add to the (long) list!!

Well done all, and thank you for the inspiring posts - they really do help me to get off my arse!

justasking111 · 26/09/2026 18:25

Today washed two sets of curtains. Cleaned one big window, the patio doors, the curtain rails, so the curtains are going back up on nice clean glass.

DH after I said that I was going to pressure wash the paths around the house which are blackening, trotted off to Lidl bought six bottles of domestos mixed it 50/50 with water and has scrubbed every square inch of the front and side of the house. Tomorrow I can pressure wash and it all should disappear.

Just goes to show this getting shit done is infectious 😁

Took a couple of bags to the Charity Shop .
One I walked past yesterday ( when I didn't have the stuff) had a board up asking for donations .
One I went to today (the one I usually use) had a board up saying they weren't accepting any , and not to leave things outside . Luckily there's a couple more just up the road so I went there .
I don;t have any allegience with any particular charity . Depends who is open .

DD has some pyjamas to go out .

And I might clean the oven tonight (spray it and firmly close the door till tomorrow morning )

TicTac80 · 27/09/2026 09:38

Think I forgot to mention in previous posts that I also managed to wash the sofa and cushion covers this week....and restore the knackered cushions on the sofa (just doubled up the cushions in to the cushion covers to help them keep their shape better). yay!

Think I might research how I can fix the fence (or at least do a temporary fix). I fear though that I will need to get someone in to properly fix it.

I want to get my privet hedge cut too. It's a PITA: I live on a hill, so the pavement side is ridiculously tall, but the side I see from my garden less so. I can't use the ladders I have as the garden is uneven, and I don't have a hedge cutter that has the reach to cut it. Again, something to think about/research.

Decluttering is still needed. The weather is good today so I will see what I can get on with. My next day off is Wednesday...and then have next weekend off.

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 27/09/2026 10:53

caught up in the thread and felt inspired to go empty a bag that had been getting in my way for weeks. It al belonged in other places. And started getting a bag ready for next week.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 27/09/2026 11:03

A couple of years ago I promised myself that once the clocks changed at the end of October, I’d clear/sort out one drawer or cupboard every day.
I did maybe 2.
However I recently tackled just a couple of drawers, and was so elated to find a couple of things I thought I’d lost or mistakenly thrown away, years ago.

So once we’re back from hols in about 10 days I shall start again…

IntrinsicallyNavellGazing · 27/09/2026 11:05

I've got many corners of doom I've managed one as well.

stealthninjamum · 27/09/2026 13:39

I started polyfillaing and sanding my downstairs toilet, as mentioned yesterday. I didn’t like the polyfilla, it was crumbling off so I’ve just bought some Ronseal wood filler. My aim is to get it to a state where I can do a layer of stain covering paint. I’d like to do that today. I’m so chuffed, I’ve been meaning to do this for months.

i also cleared out a drawer of university prospectuses and open day information now that dd1 has chosen one. usually this stuff sits around for years ‘just in case dd changes her mind or dd2 wants to go’ but I figure if that happens we’ll start research from scratch.

todays shitty job is to plant some bulbs I bought weeks ago. The ground is solid so I might only do half today.

Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot · 27/09/2026 13:46

I’m joining this thread in the hope it will keep me motivated. My head has been so full for about the last year, so stuff like ‘shit jobs’ have just fallen off the radar - and now it’s overwhelming to know where to even start.

Today I’ve sorted out a bag of stuff for the charity shop which feels like a small win - but still a win!!

DeathMetalMum · 28/09/2026 07:09

Saturday I moved a hibiscus that has been in a pot since spring back into the ground. I also dug up lots of raspberry canes in that section of the garden that had started infiltrating some of my other plants.

Yesterday I cleaned the top of a cupboard that has become a bit of a dumping ground. It's supposed to be the place a couple of remotes live, but there has become no space.

This afternoon I hope to be collecting a new second hand car. Fingers crossed.

justasking111 · 28/09/2026 12:33

Oh well my morning went a bit awry. Got up raring to go. Sorted out the washing went into DH room odd smell. Anyway cracked on with sorting and putting the first lot in. Went for a shower got dressed. The smell had got much worse was right into the hall. I went in checked all the electrics, nope. Looked around for a mouse. It was as I was walking out saw a dark wet patch. Bugger his dog had weed obviously needed to go out. Dug out the carpet cleaning machine, set about shampooing and cleaning it up.

Called him to be told that she'd weed about 20 times on the walk this morning 🙄. So it sounds like cystitis. Unfortunately he's out on the boat fishing with her so I couldn't phone the vet.

After that was sorted I collected all the small waste bins, sorted for recycling. Collected the cardboard for the green bag. Did the glass bin, tin/plastics bin, paper bin, food bin.

Phoned the estate agent about a valuation.

I'm jiggered now, the first load of washing is just finishing, I'll have to put it out to dry and put the second one in.

We've guests this afternoon and the dog smell is still there, so asked DH on his way home to pickup some wee neutraliser stuff 🙈

God laughs at plans. Well mine anyway.

Cut hedges and pressure washed the paving
Horrible but now done

DH did the pressure washing yesterday. He has waterproof trousers and wellies but somehow still got his top half soaked. He said that it was leaking so has ordered a new part. Thank goodness it's still warm outside.

KitschIntoKitchen · 28/09/2026 15:06

After doing bugger all declutterring ( or cleaning!) during the summer, I’ve just realised that it’s less than 3 months to Christmas and I have a huge amount to do. We have family staying for Christmas and at the moment, you can’t get into one of the bedrooms because of all the clutter!

So…
Day 1. Cleaned the conservatory and got rid of 100’s of dead insects that had fried to death in the summer heat. Set the Robovac to wash all the downstairs floors. Cleaned the mirrors and French doors.

DeathMetalMum · 28/09/2026 18:55

I sorted out the basket in the living room with all the blankets in this morning. It was overflowing I found a new place for one of them got rid of one and two are now in the wash. There was also some random clutter which is all either in the bin or put away. I also hoovered and dusted the space next to the sofa where it goes, which I wouldn't normally think to do.

I also cleaned some upstairs windows/windowsills. But only on the inside. I saw a magnetic cleaner in Aldi last week which intrigued me, but I couldn't decide if it's just another gadget that will take up space we don't particularly have.

ProudCoralBear · 28/09/2026 21:45

I’ve cleared lots of brambles from the garden and done a couple of tip runs, also cleared a drawer and shelf of crap. That was over the weekend and today. Tomorrow my plan is to drop a bag of stuff to the charity shop

stealthninjamum · 29/09/2026 08:59

Pleased that I joined. I planted 11 bulbs in a very hard ground so lots of watering and raking the soil. Still preparing the wall in my toilet, today I’m intending to paint over tge stain caused by a leak.

i actually have a literally shitty job to do. I promise I am not the poo troll! I don’t know if all areas do it but my local NHS sends out testing kits to look for bowel cancer. My friend’s husband’s cancer was caught by one of them and after treatment he’s making a good recovery. Anyway I got sent one and need to do a sample and send it off. It’s been on my post table for about three months so this week I’m intending to tidy that table by doing it.

DiggoryVenn · 29/09/2026 17:22

I have had a day off today so have done a few:

  • taken down, cleaned and put back up my kitchen lights (filthy with grease)
  • decreased the cooker hood, bought a new filter and replaced it.
  • bought a new bulb for my cooker - just waiting for the case to come out of the dishwasher
  • brushed off the swingseat covers and bagged them up to put in the garage.

I have been adding them to my Tasks list. The oldest thing on there was added in 2020 😬!

Breadcat24 · 29/09/2026 17:23

@DiggoryVenn darn I need to do all that
