Previous thread is almost full. I'm back on it, have cleared the corner of doom in my bedroom today. Next stop is sorting the eBay/chazza bag in the conservatory...

I’ve got the family around for Sunday lunch, so no declutterring for me today.

This week I intend to;
Tidy (and hopefully chuck) the contents of the 6 (yes 6!) kitchen drawers of doom.
Put the summer clothes away and get the winter ones out. I hope to chuck at least 3 charity bags out in the process.
Clear out the general tat in greenhouse and fill it with plants that need to be overwintered.

@Shittyyear2025 I hate squelchy courgettes. I seem to find a bag of them about once a year in the fridge.

i have finished painting a wall in my downstairs toilet. The paints and brushes have been in the toilet for months ever since we had a leak. It only took about 15 minutes a day for a week to prepare and paint. I don’t know why I procrastinated for so long.

yesterday I also finished planting some bulbs in ground that was solid. Other bulbs come up every year in these areas so I’m keeping my fingers crossed it works.

I’m now sitting here backing up my computer. It’s hundreds of files and I’ve been sitting here for about an hour. I’m not leaving till it’s done.
My computer needs to be fixed or I need a new one so I really needed to do this. ChatGPT has told me how to find the files in less obvious places

next shitty jobs

  1. do bowel cancer test (an nhs precautionary kit - there’s no reason to think I have it)
  2. fix lawn in back garden (this is a huge job so I might not finish)
  3. Sweep front garden and drive. Remove weeds. Buy leaf blower
  4. phone home insurance company to see if dd1s stuff is insured at university or find insurer for her.
BringaBintarongAlong · 04/10/2026 10:38

V succesfull day yesterday, finally rearranged furniture in living room and decluttered 3 drawers and a medium bookcase.
Have put multiple wired earphones and charging cables in the tip pile. Was v excited last time at tip to see they now have a skip for hard plastics recycling. Now have a bag of old water bottles , insulated mugs and many small battery cover bits with no idea what gadget it is/ was from.
Be v interesting to see how big the tip/ chazza bag pile gets before that gets sorted 😆
(Am aware that's a big job and in old pattern of all or nothing, am a work in progress 🫢)

TicTac80 · 04/10/2026 10:42

Done some shitty jobs this morning:
Got two more bags of things sorted for charity shop :)
cleaned some windows :)

I’m currently suffering the hell that is an indoor trampoline park (took DD and her mate there), but once that’s done, I’ll drop those bags off.

Really need to buy some sort of ear plugs as this is so bloody loud! Any recommendations?

AllFadestoBlack · 04/10/2026 10:45

I'll join! This seems like it'll motivate me. I have lots to do before (and likely after) Christmas.

Yesterday I cleaned out the storage of our ottoman bed. I sorted the vacuum packed clothes and the bedding, blankets and cushion that never see the light of day. I've got a good sized pile for charity now, though the real SJ is actually getting that pile out of the house. I removed the boards under the bed and vacuumed 😬 not sure when that last happened. I plan to sort out the bedside tables and clean behind them today.

Sadly my bedroom looks no different!

Thanks for the thread.

Breadcat24 · 04/10/2026 16:26

@justasking111 my husband asked me if I did not love him anymore when I did not match and ball his socks!
said loved him just not his socks

Cleaned oven

mothra · 05/10/2026 00:18

Finally went and did a blood test this morning! I have had the request form from my GP for literally months. This thread is really helping motivate me. I cleaned all the crap off the end of the table (end of table of doom?) yesterday, and shredded redundant documents in DM's home care folder (I do all her admin).

DiggoryVenn · 05/10/2026 06:52

Tidied 2 cupboards in the garage that are now accessible. Also pruned a bush in the front garden back by about a third. Sadly no more room in my garden bin to chop back any more overgrown plants.

KitschIntoKitchen · 05/10/2026 16:19

I’m not sure I’d count today’s effort as a success.

Sorted the summer clothes into piles ( colours, whites, holiday/beach and home). Tried to reduce the quantity, but didn’t even manage one charity bag. The majority of the items haven’t been worn this year (either don’t fit or suit me), so why an I so reluctant to throw them out?
Winter clothes are now in the wardrobe and it’s safe to say, I have more than enough!

AllFadestoBlack · 05/10/2026 17:21

Yesterday I vacuumed behind the bedside tables and the bed and tidied inside the drawers. Still so much stuff. Today I called to make a blood test appointment I keep forgetting to make. Didn't get far as I got a message saying they're too busy so call back. I might find another job for today.

Hollowvoice · 05/10/2026 17:32

I'm happy to find this thread, about 2 weeks ago I decided to do one "extra" job per day. Today was some boring admin that I've been procrastinating.
Tomorrow back into the room of doom where everything in the house goes to die (yesterday got rid of some things from there which moved with us to this house and haven't been looked at since. We moved 8 years ago....)

TicTac80 · 06/10/2026 08:52

Morning folks! Day off today, so I'm reading the thread for motivation and a general arse kicking. About to do usual chores, eat a bit of breakfast and then get a couple more shitty jobs done.

Whilst having coffee, I've sorted emails/bit of admin, put away some washing and ordered a packing box for sending my Eufy off for an inspection/repair. It's out of warranty but just under 2yrs old, so I really hope they can fix it.

Tempted to keep trying to chip away at the insanely high hedge, but we'll see. Too high for me to safely cut on one side. On the other side, the ground is uneven so my ladder won't work on it. I'll put my thinking cap on. Height needs to be reduced. And it needs thinning/tapering at the top (to make it easier in future).

TicTac80 · 08/10/2026 11:45

@Breadcat24 , thank you! I will look into these. Do you find them quite good/powerful enough? The hedge has some quite large branches. Mind you, I think anything would help!!

Breadcat24 · 08/10/2026 12:06

@TicTac80 I find them very good- ours is 21v so reasonable powerful.
You can also get something similar where you can switch out the hedge cutting head for a mini chain saw.
Cordless Pole Hedge Trimmer & Chainsaw Set, 2 * 4.0Ah Battery Rechargeable 7.05Ft Extension Pole 550W Motor 0-135° Adjust Angle Long Reach Trimmer Pruning Branch for Fence, Grass Trimmer : Amazon.co.uk: Garden

The battery hedge cutters we have now are so much lighter and our old corded one was- less exhausting!

justasking111 · 08/10/2026 12:57

Today I have cleaned out a top cupboard. This is mostly booze and preserves. Was very sticky. The lower shelf pet meds and empty jars was easy.

Bottom cupboard biscuits, , crackers, crisps, ice-cream cones, all sorted. Thrown one biscuit tin out. This is the grandkids cupboard really.

justasking111 · 08/10/2026 13:00

Oh and I sorted out the freezer. Bottom drawer fish, second drawer meat, third drawer vegetables and home made pasta sauce. Top drawer ice creams, lollipops, ice again for grandkids.

stealthninjamum · 08/10/2026 13:43

Still doing my shitty jobs.

Since Sunday i must’ve spent 8 hours doing backups of my computer and organising files. It’s not finished but I’m glad I’m doing it as I have some 20 year old photos and files that I want to keep.

I’ve spent a couple of hours sweeping up leaves in the front and back gardens. I need a leaf blower or gardener. My lawn is six inches long so I’d like to mow it this week too.

Soontobe60 · 08/10/2026 13:45

Next week I plan to do a deep clean by moving all the furniture and cleaning the floors underneath, clean all the skirting boards and all the windows inside. I’ve had a good declutter with several trips to the charity shop / tip last week.

Eek 6 inches. You've a damned good lawnmower. Cut high and again in a week.

SamphiretheTervosaur · 08/10/2026 16:05

OK. House is still a tip and my allotment needs sorting for winter but:

Monday I dragged fabric stash from under the bed and various bags in the bedroom. All now sorted, 1 bag of tatty, shiny stuff went to the bin - no, schools etc wouldnt have a use for it. Bags now in sewing.room, nearest the door.

Tuesday I focused on making some cloth bundles for sale

Wednesday floordrobe got sorted and I took pictures of craft stuff, fabric etc in case the tac man ever asks me to justify the difference between me selling as me and selling via my new retirement business

Thursday fabric bundles and threaded cars were finished; clothes were sorted into keep, sell, mend piles

Tomorrow they all get put on display in a shop and advertised on eBay

Small craft business has been started!

All done in half hour bursts and haven't triggered my ME 🙆

DiggoryVenn · 08/10/2026 17:39

So productive!

DH screwed the kickboard on that keeps falling into the cat bowl.

I spent 10 minutes sorting and chucking kitchen implements in the container next to the hob. Looks so much better!

Not a shitty job, but I have also planted my bulbs.

NewspaperTaxis · 08/10/2026 19:58

I eventually got round to cleaning out the kitchen cupboard shelf, wiping it down of spilled pepper and other crap.
We used a kitchen vinyl sample to put the olive oil bottles on, as they tend to leak or drip down onto the surface, making it sticky.
But it's slow going. Next thing to do will be either a bonfire or paint the front gates with Hammerite during the next warm/sunny spell. Oh, and mow the lawn, raking it beforehand.

SamphiretheTervosaur · 09/10/2026 14:09

Shop display part done, carousel brought home to clean stickers off

Ebay can wait. Drop in temperature has given my ME a jangle overnight 😔

CurbsideProphet · 09/10/2026 20:27

Sorted the hot drinks cupboard!
IVarious boxes of teas well out of date, with only a couple of bags left in each.
One of those annoying jobs that only took 5mins. Should have done it months ago!
