🤣🤭 I would rather use a landline and telephone boxes than carry an Android, it’s a visceral feeling.

You do you hun 😐

RampantIvy · 18/09/2026 13:45

All the techie people I know look down on Apple products because they aren't as flexible as Android.

I agree with @Bjorkdidit 's points though. Android is more intuitive to me because I have always owned Android phones. I'm sure Apple users find their phones more intuitive.

HardStopAt4 · 18/09/2026 13:49

Android. We don't have any Apple devices in our household.

GasPanic · 18/09/2026 13:49

I've had both but currently have android.

Apple are more expensive. They work better and everything is kind of simpler to do. But I find the ecosystem kind of envelops you. Everything you do has to be done the way Apple wants you to do it. You can spend quite a bit of money locking yourself into that system and finding it a wrench to extract yourself from it.

Android are a bit more difficult figure out to do stuff, and the whole finding out how to do stuff and doing it hangs together less well. But it is a lot easy to do things that might be a bit unusual or outside of what the creator intended. Some things work less well. For example although my email works well on Android, the notifications for it aren't great. The email clients for it seem to work and are useable, but aren't quite 100% in terms of getting and notifying on a regular basis.

Overall I will never go back to Apple, but I do understand why some people like Apple, especially if they have a lot of money and aren't too good at figuring out how to do stuff.

RaraRachael · 18/09/2026 13:49

@Nutmuncherwhat feeling would you get if, heaven forbid, you ever had to handle an android?

If I saw you with your precious iPhone should I feel envious, unworthy.....
I'm very concerned about the harm I might be causing by using this appalling device.

You are right about the locked in system with Apple. That's why, on the whole, techy people dislike Apple.

I'm not sure why you have an issue with emails on Android. Which email platform are you using? I have Outlook and get notifications no problem.

Alternatively you can go into Settings > apps and turn on/off notifications for each app.

DinoLil · 18/09/2026 13:56

A Samsung android.

I tried an iPhone when they first came out, way back when. Never again!

Outlook was an absolute mess on my last android phone it didn't work at all.

I moved to thunderbird on my PC and like that because it is independent of Office and means I can maintain an email client on my PC without shelling out £££ for that.

I maintain the same client on android and as I said it works sufficiently. But the consistency of the download process is a bit flakey and the notifications do not work despite them being turned on (I do know how to do this). This is a common occurence on android where you find on one app or another the notifications simply won't work or come through in a timely manner.

Investigations on the net seem to imply its the basic android tools that the email clients use that could use some improvement.

I never had any such experiences using Apple, which just works straight out of the box.

I think it is worth adding that when you get an apple, that is pretty much it you are running apple.

When you are running Android you are running say Samsung UI on top of Android, or Nokia UI on top of Android etc. This makes the probablity that there will be some clashes/bugs in the way different phones running android will work, ie not all android phones are equal.

I switched to Samsung from Noika because a) I needed esim and b) samsung offer great support (I think 5 or 6 years) which a lot of budget manufacturers like Nokia don't.

So far I think the Samsung is better/less bugs at running Android than Nokia. I guess this is because they sell more phones, and probably have a bigger team on the UI programming.

For these reasons I wish my DH would use Apple as they are easier to use and sort of walk you through stuff and doesn’t really go wrong but he uses android and half the time hasn’t a clue how it works and I have to muddle it through for him

Thegirlwhowent · 18/09/2026 14:09

Android. I don't want to get tied into Apple stuff.

BashfulClam · 18/09/2026 14:10

I’m apple loyal and find it easier. Also the apps are a bit more secure which I like as a tech dunderheid. My husband switched to android as a comparable I-phone was £500 more, he lasted 4 months and despite being a patient man he sent the phone across the room 4 times in frustration. He despises android any how clunky it feels.

Mil has android as she can’t afford an Apple device and he hates doing anything on it for her. My friend once asked me to do something on her abdroid phone and I had to google how to do it. The way to do things that I can do in 4 seconds on Apple seemed to be a long complicated multi step process.

KaleidoscopeSmile · 18/09/2026 12:13

What a silly, childish post

Yet true.

Sesma · 18/09/2026 14:12

I could never bring myself to have an android, in my mind they’re like a supermarket own brand if that makes any sense.

We're Apple everything.

Why be so snobby? There's nothing wrong with a lot of own brand stuff either.

BridalFeastofBethChadruharazzeb · 18/09/2026 14:17

RichardMarxisinnocent · 18/09/2026 10:18

Apple's marketing worked well on you then. Do you really think that brands like Sony, Samsung and Google phones are like supermarket own brands?

agree - my S25 Ultra is on an easy par with iphone

iphone 17 pro max was USD1199 in March and the samsung S26 ultra was USD1299
(https://www.tomsguide.com/phones/galaxy-s26-ultra-vs-iphone-17-pro-max)

expensive for a Supermarket own brand

BIWI · 18/09/2026 14:20

HEADS UP PEOPLE

The OP doesn't really care about you and your thoughts about your phone. He is just doing his research to decide which platform/operating software would be best/preferred to use for the app that he's developing.

(Only his thread trying to conduct his research on developing said app, on Mumsnet, has been deleted).

It depends which browser you use. I have DuckDuckGo on my Android phone (recommended by a mumsnetter) because it strips out all the annoying adverts.

ThisThreadCouldOutMe · 18/09/2026 14:25

Nutmuncher · 18/09/2026 12:37

Yes I do 🫣

gullible marketing victim maybe but android just gives me poor and SIM card / top up vibes 😆

My sons android is worth about 3k, but yes. Cheap. Ffs.

Android is made by google.

Or at least it is currently maintained/released by google. I don't think it was invented by them.

But by "having to use google" it depends what that means.

I think you have to have a google account to setup an android phone. But you don't have to use the google apps such as chrome/web browser/email client etc if you don't want to and there are alternatives available on the app store.

Once you have set the thing up you can probably logout of the google account, but I guess that might make downloading or updating the apps a bit difficult as you will not be logged into Google Play. There are other app stores available though.

TLDR, my guess is you can probably get round having to have a google account while running it, but I suspect the vast majority don't.

Im also always surprised that so many people find the opposite operating system so difficult/clunky/confusing.
I've never had an issue doing things on friends iPhones, even if they take me a couple of seconds longer than android as that's what I'm used to.

Its a lot easier to go from android to apple than from apple to android.

Because apple is easier to use and more intuitive.

That is, until you get to the point where you want to do something apple doesn't want you to do. At which point you are pretty much screwed.

abracadabra1980 · 18/09/2026 14:35

iphone. only know one person with a Samsung. I also use macbook so it syncs well. I hate all smart tech and yearn for my old Nokia back again.

You're right - with this comment, you come off as tedious more than lovely.

For God's sake, OP clearly just wanted to be nice by addressing us all as lovely ladies. Only someone not lovely would put a negative, tedious spin on it.

If you like patronising posts then maybe somewhere like netmums is more your style?

Maybe it's because I'm used to android then. But I've never found it "unintuitive". Everything I need to do is perfectly straightforward.
