What do you think of Miriam margoyles?

DP wants to go and see her and I am not keen. She always strikes me as a posh fat elderly lady who likes to get laughs by saying shocking things interspersed with lots of swearing.

But am I wrong? Is her show cleverer than my impression of her?

I think it’s a persona, a bit like Madonna is supposed to be very very different in real life to the persona she displays in public, her young boyfriends are fake, she doesn’t dress like that and is a strict and hands on parent, who goes to bed early each night with a little magnum ice cream.

i find Miriam funny sometimes, and quite endearing, but the racism is just far too far. She’s developed a public persona of the blunt elderly lady with no filter, but she’s taken it too far.

Not a fan here either don’t see what the big fuss is

She had to up the anti in the past to pay her mortgage. I’m sure her mortgage has been paid. Wish she’d take it down a couple of notches. She’d be great again.

Oh yes, I remember now. She’s Jewish and against the behaviour of Israel and the prolonged suffering of Palestinians.

Dreadful woman. Hides her rudeness behind the ‘eccentric, old woman’ image. If a man behaved as she did then he’d be torn to shreds.

If it's true to her persona, then she is vile. If it's not, then she is vile to think this this passes for entertainment.

The amount of posts about how rude and offensive she is and then people go on to be offensive about her weight, appearance and age! I don’t even think those posters can see it.

I find her boring and really not my style of humour. But maybe she does better when she’s not being interviewed.

I saw her do a show about Dickens’ women in which she played various of them and talked a bit about Dickens. She was brilliant. Well worth seeing.
However she was a total bitch to a man in the audience who had a cough, making a big thing of asking if anyone in the audience had any cough sweets for him until he was thoroughly embarrassed which tbh I found quite upsetting and much worse than having the show disturbed by an occasional cough….
I don’t think her meanness is an act, I think she’s just quite nasty.

I went to her book tour last year, it was awful. Same tired old anecdotes you’ve heard before, that weren’t even that funny the first time! It was like a lecture from an patronising self obsessed elderly aunt with dementia.

Ghastly

Good actress in her day but this vulgar shock jock stuff is not entertaining.

I thought she was an eccentric but funny actress/personality. But the way she spoke to Andy Peters was vile. I wouldn’t go.

I've really appreciated her in various acting roles over the years, and read most of her first memoir and found it enjoyable. But one book was definitely enough. Also saw a documentary she did about attitudes to death which was poignant. Unfortunately she has, in my opinion, overdone the whole 'taking her personality on the road' stuff. It's well past the point of being any kind of event or draw.

On the other hand, she has publicly described herself in very recent times as 'the wrong kind of Jew' and I feel that has been a brave and significant stance to take. As a PP has suggested, she's now public enemy number one to some 🤷🏻‍♂️
