DP wants to go and see her and I am not keen. She always strikes me as a posh fat elderly lady who likes to get laughs by saying shocking things interspersed with lots of swearing.

But am I wrong? Is her show cleverer than my impression of her?

She’s vile. She could use her voice for anything but chooses to spout hatred and pretend that she’s a mad older lady that doesn’t understand that she’s upset people.

myappletreeisladen · 17/09/2026 19:37

She’s great. Refreshingly honest and unafraid. We need more of her in the public eye.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 17/09/2026 19:40

Interestingly (or not) a couple of anagrams of 'Miriam Margoyles' are...

Immoral, grey mass
Grim memory, alas

Lararoft · 17/09/2026 19:56

Her racist rudeness to Andi Peters has really put me off her; as racism is unforgivable anyway and I find Andi Peters to be one of the nicest most inoffensive guys around!

Repulsive, crude and unfunny.

This

I'd rather stick pins in my eyes

Fondmemories · 17/09/2026 19:57

She's an awful foul mouthed old hag.

Justmadesourkraut · 17/09/2026 20:14

I would not want to see her, and would agree with a lot of the above, but today she popped up on my Facebook feed, explaining quite thoughtfully, why she thought Nigel Farage is a not person we should trust. Not a swear word around but fascinating to see another side to her.

Agree.
Irritating virtue signaling lefty luvvie.
Don’t give her the oxygen (or the money)
Why on earth does you DH want to go???

SirChenjins · 17/09/2026 20:34

She's a prize idiot - the kind of offensive buffoon that everyone avoids in RL, but because she's a posh old luvvie she gets away with being rude and dishing out every ism there is because some people think her verbal diarrhoea is funny.

ExpertlyDecluttering · 17/09/2026 20:41

Crude, racist and her betrayal of the late Jacqueline Du Pre and friends/family as detailed in her memoir is completely unforgivable.

Backedoffhackedoff · 17/09/2026 20:43

She’s a grifter. Her silly stories are clearly lies. She’s also too dim to realise her eccentric old woman act exposes her ignorance and racism.

Flannelfeet · 17/09/2026 20:48

Miriam gargoyles.

LlynTegid · 17/09/2026 20:55

I wouldn't go myself. Some of her acting has been good, her response to the treatment of Aboriginal children in the not too distant past showed how this should not be forgotten.

ExitPursuedByABare · 17/09/2026 20:55

I’d rather eat my own feet.

TattieSconeEggAndBacon · 17/09/2026 20:56

I don’t care about her age, weight or social class. I do care about she’s a racist cunt.

LindorDoubleChoc · 17/09/2026 20:57

Tedious

ClaudiaWrinklemum · 17/09/2026 21:02

I love her.

She got handed a rude script by Ben Elton when she played Lady Whiteadder in the episode, "Beer" of Blackadder II, then just ran with it.

Forever.

It became her on stage/television persona. Starts off prim, then gets filthy.

She sort of reprised Lady Whiteadder in Blackadder's Christmas Carol, in which she played the well known nymphomaniac, Queen Victoria.

Then Graham Norton egged her on. It's OK. It doesn't seem to be a genuine personality that she's showing us but that's acting and comedy for you. It's all too easy to become the act and if you're not, you're boring and unbookable. They don't want Real Miriam, they want Crazy Miriam, until they don't want Crazy Miriam any more but you've forgotten who Real Miriam used to be.

Yes, this.

I think it's a shame she keeps getting wheeled out. I feel really uncomfortable watching her, it's like 100 insecure neuroses playing out in hideous ways and what, we're supposed to find that funny?!

Widoeeyes · 17/09/2026 21:10

For some reason I always thought she was grotbags. Like, I thought they were one and the same person.

oddly, I also thought that Roddy from Roddy, Jane and Freddy was Rod Stewart . Soooo

Guidanceplease20 · 17/09/2026 21:13

When shes reading from a script shes often very good. When she starts spouting her own ideas though...thats when she falls from grace. Occassionally shes funny but I dont want to lose any more life listening to most of it, just to find a good part

Cotopaxi · 17/09/2026 21:20

I liked her in Blackadder. I liked her Australian documentaries. Apart from that, I heard and read a lot of things, similar to what's on this thread, so that influenced my views of her considerably.

Then she, a Jewish woman, spoke out against Israel, and it made me see her in an entirely new light again. Perhaps look up and read about what she said, and then make your mind up.

Waitingfordoggo · 17/09/2026 21:22

Irritating and cringey. Far too pleased with herself and I don’t find her that interesting as an interviewee so I wouldn’t want to go and see her show.

Zaza2020 · 17/09/2026 21:33

I like her.
