What do you think of Miriam margoyles?

DP wants to go and see her and I am not keen. She always strikes me as a posh fat elderly lady who likes to get laughs by saying shocking things interspersed with lots of swearing.

But am I wrong? Is her show cleverer than my impression of her?

She got handed a rude script by Ben Elton when she played Lady Whiteadder in the episode, "Beer" of Blackadder II, then just ran with it.

Forever.

It became her on stage/television persona. Starts off prim, then gets filthy.

She sort of reprised Lady Whiteadder in Blackadder's Christmas Carol, in which she played the well known nymphomaniac, Queen Victoria.

Then Graham Norton egged her on. It's OK. It doesn't seem to be a genuine personality that she's showing us but that's acting and comedy for you. It's all too easy to become the act and if you're not, you're boring and unbookable. They don't want Real Miriam, they want Crazy Miriam, until they don't want Crazy Miriam any more but you've forgotten who Real Miriam used to be.

Ghastly.

Hopefulsalmon · 17/09/2026 18:51

I couldn't bear to hear the inevitable wanking anecdote again.

FionnulaTheCooler · 17/09/2026 18:52

I wouldn't choose to go. I'm not a fan of her "I'm mad, me" attention seeking.

Mouldemort · 17/09/2026 18:53

When my daughter was young she saw her at the library and fangirled over her. When DS said she really liked Doctor Who she said she didn't think much of it. My DS was quite crestfallen.

i wish her well but would have no desire to see her. She makes me cringe.

goingtotown · 17/09/2026 18:56

Exhibitionist.

Weirdpig · 17/09/2026 18:57

Her resurgence just makes me think she didn't save enough for a decent pension.

rememberingthem · 17/09/2026 18:57

Revolting woman, with zero class

MinnieMountain · 17/09/2026 18:59

I stopped reading her autobiography because I found her so irritating.

After recent performance on morning TV, there's no way I'd give her my money.

EamonnFyre · 17/09/2026 19:09

She awful. Embarrassingly try-hard one trick pony.

WhiteFramesandPlanes · 17/09/2026 19:12

She has absolutely no filter whatsoever and even if it's all for attention she's got some nerve to say some of the things she does. Did anyone see her on Graham N when she said (literally) "I remember so distinctly I started to cream in my knickers" when Lawrence Olivier was walking towards her. I wouldn't say that on TV if I was offered a million bucks!

Betterbeingdead · 17/09/2026 19:15

A very unkind woman dressed up as comedy reminds me of the nasty.kids at school who said ' only joking '.

MuchAdoAboutSomething26 · 17/09/2026 19:16

I saw her live last year and enjoyed her A-Z show. It was ‘An evening with…’ type format with someone from Radio 4 guiding the discussion. However, I wouldn’t watch her again. Her comments towards Andi Peters crossed a line for me.

Thank-you for ruining my shepherd's pie 😬

BeaLola · 17/09/2026 19:19

I wouldn’t want to see her - I find her self obsessed and incredibly irritating and I don’t like her crude language, sexual comments etc . She probably would t like me either if we met but I really dislike what I see of her

SnowFrogJelly · 17/09/2026 19:23

She thinks she’s funny.. but she isn’t

Dollymylove · 17/09/2026 19:25

Shes horrible

Treetreetreetree · 17/09/2026 19:26

She seems ghastly.

Have seen her live at the Edinburgh fringe. She was very interesting and quite funny. If you want an idea of what she is like, watch some of her documentaries like the ones on Australian society. Don't go by what she is like in interviews.

I really enjoy her documentaries. She’s doesn’t come across as judgmental, on the contrary.

Reading the opinions on here re: margoyles is restoring my faith in humanity 😃

That is what you will get she also likes to talk about clitoris's so there is that!

ZoePonytail · 17/09/2026 19:31

Can’t bear her. I think she just says crude things to be ‘controversial’ and to keep getting booked. It’s how she earns her living. I find her uncouth. It’s a turn-off.

RosaBaby2 · 17/09/2026 19:33

Watch her documentaries. I love her.

Winterizcoming · 17/09/2026 19:34

Unpleasant
