I’ve just had a nose job in Turkey - AMA

Maybe no one will have anything to ask me 😂. But I’m flying back tomorrow having had a rhinoplasty in Turkey on Tuesday last week. I didn’t tell many people I was doing this, and anyone I did tell was absolutely horrified and said I was mad to do it. I wasn’t even sure right up until the last minute that I was going to come, I was very close to chickening out.

But it’s done, healing nicely and I’m so glad I did it. AMA.

I had my gastric sleeve there.

Did it all go ok?

Yes, 5 years down line and maintaining 9st weightloss.

Amazing! That’s a great result. My friend who came with me was saying she wants to come here for a gastric band.

Well made it home (alive, not in a box), and feeling good. Swelling is going down nicely. I still have to have my nose taped and wear a retainer in my nostrils though so I’m scuttling around wearing a cap when I have to leave the house the house. Feel completely back to normal in myself though, kind of wish I hadn’t taken this week off as I’d be fine to work.

It was Godze International Hospitals. I went to the one in Izmir but I think they also have one in Istanbul. My surgeon was Serkan Gokpinar, there’s another nose surgeon at the Izmir hospital but I preferred the work of the one I went to.

Congratulations, as long as you're happy with it that is all that matters.

Will you tell people or just wait to see if they notice? I can imagine many people may think you might look different, or well, for example but not be able to put their finger on why!

I've heard people go to Turkey and other countries as often at home they can be too 'conservative' and noses sometimes don't look any different, or how the patient wanted it etc.

I always wanted a nose job but never disliked it that much to 'take the risk' of it going wrong or not meeting expectations. It's a lot of money for that to happen. Nothing wrong with my nose, it's not big or crooked or anything but I've never liked how it looks in photos. People look so much better IRL.

no questions but good for you

if you go again, do get proper insurance

my dh went to Istanbul recently and commented on there being a lot of people on the flight back who’d had work done!

I have told a few friends but I’m not planning on broadcasting it generally. I told the surgeon that I still wanted to look like me, just better. He does specialise in natural looking noses, and he’s quite upfront with people who go to him looking for something that’s unrealistic to achieve, his priority is the functionality of the nose. I’m hoping you’re right and it’s a bit like when someone has done something different with their hair or got some new glasses, you know ‘something’ is different but not sure what.

The ‘Barbie’ nose is very popular but I think I’d look ridiculous with one of those, I wouldn’t suit a tiny, sloped nose. I told the surgeon I wanted a straight nose but he suggested a slight curve so I bowed to his superior judgement on that. The swelling is going down by the day and so far I’m really happy, if it ends up looking similar to my table photos I’ll be pleased with that.

To be honest if it hadn’t been for breaking my nose and having breathing issues I don’t think I’d have done it either, I didn’t love my nose before, but the way it looked didn’t bother me enough to get it done just for cosmetic reasons. I met a girl in Turkey in her twenties who was having her THIRD rhinoplasty, chasing perfection (she had the cutest little nose already), and she’d had other work done too. I felt sad for her, she was so young and pretty and really didn’t need any of that.

Thank you, yes I’d say on the flight home about half of the people had had something done out there! And I won’t be going back, although the whole experience was fine, I’m not that invested in how I look really, my version of getting ready for the day is dragging a brush through my hair and sticking some leggings and a hoody on.

I have my fit to fly certificate, so I should be fine. No one else I know that’s been here has had a problem getting back or had any complications requiring treatment once home. My breathing is fine, my stitches are healing really well.

Ignore them, they're here to goad you. They do it as much as they can. Sad. Looks great, good for you.

Oh I know, I’ve been here long enough 🤣.

Realistically, the only slight risk was the flight home, as I was under the care of the hospital whilst I was there. And now I’ve cancelled the NHS septoplasty that I was waiting for (god knows when that would have happened, I’ve not even had the first consultation about it and I’ve been waiting nearly a year).

Was it an ultrasound surgery?
Did you feel anything at all while it was happening?

No not ultrasound. Didn’t feel a thing, I was asleep 😴

I will! This is a throwaway username so I don’t really care if anyone recognises me. This is the progress so far…compared to this time last week when I could barely open my eyes because of the swelling, and my jaw looked like Desperate Dan, the swelling is going down nicely. And my black eyes have nearly gone 😅. I have to keep the tapes on and a retainer in my nostrils for a few weeks. I got to have a proper shower today when I changed my tapes which was amazing, I feel brand new now.

But I will post another photo in a month or so when it will look more like the finished result. The surgeon said I have thick skin which takes longer to return to normal, apparently.

Not particularly, if I didn’t have breathing issues due to the break I wouldn’t have done this. Or I’d have done it a long time ago. But either way, I needed to have more surgery to fix the breathing, and on top of always having had a large nose with a hump, it was also left crooked from being broken.

Oh. Your nose in the "pre" photo is smaller and prettier than mine.
I guess everyone is secretly thinking what a big horrible nose I've got Sad

Edit - you look lovely in the latest pic! Obviously bit of a guess what's under the bandages!

Thank you, and I’m sure your nose is fine! I can’t say I’ve ever looked at someone and thought they have a horrible nose, people tend to have the nose that suits their face, whatever size it is. What I’ve learned from this is that it’s the people with a very definite idea of how they should look after rhinoplasty, and are chasing their idea of the perfect nose, that end up being disappointed. Two of the girls who have had surgery less than a month ago (so still very much in the early days of swelling) are already talking about going back for a revision. I think I’ll be happy with whatever I end up with, I’m just happy to be able to breathe properly again.

I wish more people would realise that. Some people just choose a nose from a model and don’t realise it won’t look the same on their face.

NewNose · 28/09/2026 23:35

Three weeks tomorrow since my op and this is the progress so far. The swelling has gone down loads, although things will still change a lot for at least a year. I took this photo and thought oh god I don’t like it, but then looked at a similar angle photo of my old nose and realised actually my new one is pretty good 😂.

Still not quite back to normal energy-wise, I’m managing back at work but with a lot of naps thrown in!
