I’ve just had a nose job in Turkey - AMA

Maybe no one will have anything to ask me 😂. But I’m flying back tomorrow having had a rhinoplasty in Turkey on Tuesday last week. I didn’t tell many people I was doing this, and anyone I did tell was absolutely horrified and said I was mad to do it. I wasn’t even sure right up until the last minute that I was going to come, I was very close to chickening out.

But it’s done, healing nicely and I’m so glad I did it. AMA.

How much did it cost? Did you save a lot by going to Turkey (factoring in travel costs etc) Are you black and blue?

MyManinCaracas · 13/09/2026 19:12

May I ask how old you are? I’ve considered it but think I will have my teeth done first.

Mine was a septorhinoplasty as I had breathing issues due to a previous break, so mine was more expensive than if it was just a first rhinoplasty. I paid £2890, which included flights, 2 nights in hospital, all meds, then 5 nights at a nice hotel including breakfast, and all transfers. Definitely a lot cheaper than the UK, I’d have paid around £12k for a septorhinoplasty there. My surgeon here is a ENT doctor too, not all of them are.

Oh and yes my bruising has been bad, but I’m unlucky there, I haven’t seen anyone else with a bruise on them! The swelling gets quite bad for the first few days. But there’s been no pain at all.

How long before it completely heals? Can you go out in public yet or are you still swollen?

WetBandits · 13/09/2026 19:15

Have you had good pre- and post-op care? I saw a patient recently for a contraception review who was just back from surgery in Turkey. They hadn’t told her to stop taking her combined pill prior to surgery (she was on the table for 5 hours having multiple big surgeries at once!) and hadn’t prescribed anything to prevent blood clots, then let her fly two days later 🤯

Ihateboris · 13/09/2026 19:16

Are you allowed to name the hospital?

I’m 45. I’ve always had a horrible nose but it didn’t bother me that much, but with the breathing issues I had too since breaking it last year I would have had to have a septorplasty anyway to sort that out (the NHS would have done that, but they don’t do anything about how the nose looks). So I figured if I have to have surgery I might as well get a nice nose out of it too.

Are you worried about flying? That always puts me off, the idea of the cabin pressure…

good for you though, wishing you a quick recovery!

Tryagain26 · 13/09/2026 19:17

Why did you do ir?

Most of the swelling should be gone within a month, but it takes up to a year for it to completely settle to see the final result. I have been going out in public here, but it’s not unusual in Turkey to be wandering around looking like this. I suspect it will be a bit more shocking for people when I’m in the UK, planning to lay low as much as possible for the first week.

Are you happy with the result?

Ihateboris · 13/09/2026 19:20

Silly question...did you show the surgeon a photo of the type of nose shape you wanted to achieve?

I can’t fault the care at the hospital. Mine has been pretty straightforward but I know of a couple of other people who had complications (one had breathing difficulties due to asthma, and one had an allergy to the tape), and they were both rushed back to the hospital to be treated. The nurses don’t speak any English but there are translators there and Google Translate came in very handy!

I don’t see why not, I went to Gozde International hospital in Izmir.

I’m not really worried about flying except for the risk of catching a lurgy as I always seem to get ill when I fly. Managed not to on the way here though, thankfully, because a cold would not be fun right now.

How did you book it all? As a package or hotels etc separately?

NewNose · 13/09/2026 19:23

Tryagain26 · 13/09/2026 19:17

Why did you do ir?

Because of breathing issues and because I’ve always had a big nose.

Where did you get your travel insurance?

I didn’t but others have. However the surgeon can only work with what you have and he tells people if what they want is unrealistic. He does a side profile simulation in the consultation before you have the surgery. I just said I wanted it to look natural and still like me, but better!

It’s all done as a package. So the £2890 included everything, except for lunches and dinners for the days in the hotel. Eating out here is very cheap though.

I have an annual policy so I didn’t get specific travel insurance for coming here.

Did you watch the Olivia Atwood show first? It was ey opening and I’m glad you are recovering well. Was it scary being alone?

Very happy! I will post my before and after photo. Swollen as hell still at the moment but I can see it’s going to look so much better and my breathing is already better than before the surgery, even with the swelling.
